Hello, I'm familiar with the /alias ;b (insert blah here), but i have a question about a particular one.
I'm an experienced WoW player and any experienced player knows about macros. The macro I'm looking to create and just cannot find would be similar to this in WoW:
/tar "AnySpecificMob"
For those who aren't familiar with WoW macros, it is a simple tool that allows you to search for a specific mob while running around, looking for them. My question is, is there anything similar in LotRO, and what the commands would be. I've tried looking through all the commands, and I can't seem to find anything relevant to my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance,
as far as im aware you can not create a macro to target a mob or item. lotro does not have a full macro system you either have aliases which can only use typed slash commands and combine chat strings with emotes
or theres the LUA system for creating plugins but these again afaik cant not be used to target anything
afaik you can not target a mob by a slash command, the only interaction for targets is for chat emotes ie /em kicks [target]
which will say in chat your toon name kicks (what ever is targeted)
There is no such capability in Lotro. You might be able to do it via a Lua plugin. Only if the information that you need is exposed by Turbine's API. I do not recall ever seeing any post suggesting that Lua plugin coud provide this functionality.
The only way I know how to do it is to install an external program that will play your character for you. That is a good way to get your account permanently banned by Turbine, to get trojans and viruses, have your personal information and account stolen.
The automation and user modication capability of the game experience via plugins and macros is very primitive by WoW standards. Turbine want us to play the game manually at the PC. Wants us to do single atomic actions via each key stroke.
It is possible to macro a text message so that one key press sends the message. There is no easy way to send multiple text messages unless you have support like a keyboard. Each key press will target the next critter in range. There is no way I know of to cycle thru all the critter. Let alone get the name information and search it.
Hunters have unique class skills (tracking skills) for this functionality. It requires the Hunter to stop. Do a search. Look at the list for the critter they want. The Hunter can move on. When the skill available again, you can do another search.

If you're having trouble keeping track of opponents (for a CC target, or during a boss fight, for example), you can hover your mouse over the target and press H to create a floating tooltip for it.
You can then click on that tooltip to target the creature.
Understand your reaction. For perspective, my recollection and 2c:
the vast majority of the original LOTRO Shadows of Angmar alpha and beta test community was dead set against Turbine providing any macro capability that would enable macro abusers to farm, gold sell, camp certain mobs, bots, etc. etc. in LOTRO.
Yes, there were some folks who wanted that kind of capability, but in this case the customer base spoke consistently and persistently over time against it and Turbine determined to honor that strong desire, for which I'm still eternally grateful.
I, personally, consider that LOTRO is largely a "safe", friendly game and community due to this and other similar decisions by Turbine on other potential game systems including PvP, RvR, etc.

I have a feeling a lot of the alpha and beta testers were players of Turbine first game Asheron's Call. A game where full automation was allowed and normal. You wanted to compete in PvP. You had to automate your play. If you wanted to do the harder content in PvE, you had to use plugins and helpers - otherwise the content would kill you. Everybody used automation even the developers and testers of the game. Some of the plugins and automation were written by Turbine employees on their own time.
Nobody at Turbine that I know of helped with or wrote the full automation programs. Where you could go to slepp and your PC would play your character more effectively than you could.
