With all the crafting recipes that require mythril flakes one would expect it to be a resource that is available to the studious farmer. In the past with my two prospectors I could rely on finding flakes in K ore and skarn occasionally but often enough to keep my crafting toons stocked. But in the last say two to three weeks I have not found one flake and my two prospecting toons are searching daily. With the going price for mythril flakes in the AH at 1-2 gold per flake it puts crafting armour, journals and weapons out of reach.
Turbine should correct this by making it more abundant for the worthy prospectors. Just a suggestion.
They still drop as normal in Lothlorien and Mirkwood from nodes, while leveling a new alt I've done some random node hitting last two days and had 5. That is just by hitting a node that is nearby when killing quest mobs, not actively farming nodes in a given area. If farming then I would get that in a night but no longer need to farm that amount so just kill sigs/elites I find to topup my stores.
Since the gear you can craft with Mithril Flakes isn't end game any longer it would make sense to make them a bit easier to find from a game play perspective.

Mithril flakes are easy to find. They drop semi-frequently from ore nodes, they drop from the rare monsters in Eregion (I think), Moria, Lothlorien, Mirkwood and Enedwaith, as well as a rare drop from regular mobs. They also can be bartered from skirmish camps, if you're really that determined.

Huh what now? 1-2 gold is out of reach? I make that much just selling task loot from running dailies. Heck, the market price of the ore you've harvested the last few days while looking for them should be enough to buy you several fistfuls of mithril flakes. Plus, yes, there are easily-reached flake droppers, and IIRC their price at the skirmish vendor is like one skirmish's worth of marks and meds, thats 15 mins of gameplay.

I did some research after posting this yesterday and made a long list of elites and mobs that should drop mythril. Spent considerable time hunting them with no luck. I did have an unexpected encounter with one in an area north of moria, zigi......,
the orc rider dropped a flake. Prospected the rest of the day in moria with no flakes. switched to Edenwaith last night and K ore with no drops. Still looking. Thanks for the comments.

1-2 gold is way too much when you are making gear for kinnies and alts. Each piece can require 1 flake each and some require a flake to craft the journal, if needed, gets spendy. Also I refuse to rip people off by charging astronomical prices for basic ores. I do sell what I don't need or give away to kin. But at a reasonable price.
I will check the skim camps. Thanks

They are easy to find if you don't need them any longer. Which is my point about the gear not being end game and making Mith Flakes less rare (Or reduce the number needed some how). The mobs you mentioned are not all that easy to kill on level solo, and if you group you have to roll for the flake. I also question your definition of simi-frequently. I have something like 700 bars of K-Iron plus a few hundred bars of K-Gold, and only 15 or so flakes. (That's bars now not chunks of ore.) You do have a point about the skirmish camps, but grinding skirms for flakes, while faster than the other methods, is still a bit much to craft non-end game gear IMO. Also if you're one of the crafters that don't mine you still need Mithril Flakes. Leaving rare-elite hunting and skirm camps as the only options. I'm not suggesting they drop every other node and from common mobs, I'm just saying IMO they are a bit rare for gear that isn't the last gear you make. While they aren't the hardest things to get I wouldn't call them easy to find. At least not on level.

Can anyone confirm that the bolded part is still true? It certainly used to be true a year ago when my first batch of characters was mining tier 6 ores. But now that my second group of characters is doing so I'm not seeing a single flake drop from mining. I'm still getting (barely) enough from rare elites but past experience led me to expect that I'd have at least twice as many flakes by now. Has anyone gotten a flake from an ore node since U7?
wally300, I'd recommend looking for the Lothlorien flake-droppers - easier to find than the various Moria ones.

You are a funny person, do you also work for Turbine? Just a question. I am still farming DAILY in Lothlorien, Edenwaith and Moria with zip for flakes. Visited the skirm camp in edenwaith last night and found no mythril. So I guess you guys are just having fun with me. Okay I can take a joke and maybe it is time for me to move on to a game less political. Peace.
They drop in Lothlorien and Mirkwood the most, got a new alt through lothlorien and mirkwood over the last 4 days. I got 9 from nodes and 3 from elites that I didn't see that agroed and passed up more as I left more elite flake droppers alive I did spot.
There are plenty in Lothlorien. You can easily get 5+ in 30m if no one else is farming the mos.
My champ is in Loth now and has been mining daily for the past two weeks there, NO FLAKES, nada, zilch, none, zero!
I keep mining thinking I am bound to have a good day and find a couple but no.
Sorry for the rant.
You can kill all Lothlorien elites at 65 let alone 71 a a hunter, at 65 all you needed was food and decent setup, easier at 71.
Lothlorien is one of my favorite places and I prospect there all the time. No drops form elites although there are two, a lizard and a great elk, that I am told drop flakes. have not found either of them yet. Hunting elites is an option, i only have to find them.
My opinion is something happened with the last update that changed the frequency of mythril flake drops.
I feel some sympathy for the original poster because while I don't have trouble finding flakes, I do have a ton of trouble finding cracked sigles all I can say to the OP is I find a majority of my flakes from monster drops and instances. Run Grand Stair for example.

I have a lvl 57 hunter that since hitting moria at lvl 50 has found at least a dozen flakes. Not good odds, but I was not looking for them. Some came from some rare elites in moria, and just yesterday down around The Orc Watch (think that is Redhorn Lodes?) I got 2 one each from iron and gold. As for finding rare elites, sometimes it helps to clear areas, know the pattern of how often the rare spawns, and be on time ahead of anyone else who knows. Today I went to Dunland actually with the idea of determining if mithril dropped from the skarn, instead I got sigil.
So I guess what I'm thinking is you have just been unlucky recently...don't give up, it is still dropping.
PS for edit: Yes you can buy them from the skirmish crafting vendor for 250+ marks plus 4 medalions (I think that was right), just looked yesterday but forget the actual figures as it is something I will only do if needed in an emergency at that price. (meaning time value)

Reason: forgot skirmish comment
1. Gwollug lizard. near vinyards and just north of the revelers, it spawns adds if you let it, so save your stuns for its induction
2. moose sig same area's as 1. Gwollug
3. a lynx near Sad Gilthiriad, no special just hits hard and second spawn further south nearer Gwollug's northern spawn
4. orc this one can be tough, it comes in 2 varieties, 1 can heal and is immune to stuns other again immune to stuns and hits harder, they patrol from were the most of nodes are west of Talan Fanuidhol to a clearign down the hill towards Talan Orthelian
5. warg same place as the 4. orc, its wounds stack so time your pots to get rid of the worst one
6. a uruk, it patrols the whole orc camp in northern lothlorien where you do the repeatables, this one is a tough sob even at 65 for a hunter, best killed by a guardian or LM slow but 100% kill as he hits hard and adds from respawns are a pain if you have to kite.
You think that's bad, go find some Beryl shards, less droppers for these then there are for flakes, and ore nodes don't drop em.
However, since neither flake or shard droppers are actively farmed anymore, the droppers are all over. When I leveled my last toon through Moria, I think I picked up 5-6 just from droppers while questing. Go run Forges or FG, normally a flake drops at least once per run, sometimes more... Worst case, run GS full and spend the coins you get from the run to buy em from the AH...
And stop farming ore in Enedwaith, Lorien is the best place for all higher-end T6 nodes.

It's called "economy". You can refuse to participate, but the prices are reasonable. You are not just selling ore, you are selling *your time*.

You may be new to the game...back before Dunland, the main way to get the crafting components was to kill a rare elite. Beryl shards *never* dropped in nodes, and Mithril flakes were a fairly rare drop. And yes, they're in skirmish camps...if you need to quit the game because you didn't look hard enough, can I have your stuff?

A quick forum search for "Lothlorien Mithril Flake" turned up this thread:
Enjoy. And try the search function if you're ever in trouble.

There are 52 EM and ES Beryl shard droppers, and 40 EM and ES Mithril flake droppers. Beryl shards are a cake walk. Mithril flakes are, too. I vendor them anymore...though maybe I'll start selling my stack of 80 or so if they really do go for 1G. 1G is about the minimum I'll bother going to the AH for...pocket change.
Work like no one is watching, dance like you don't need the money...

That is huge THANK YOU! I have run across the Uruk who patrols the camps in NW Loth doing a repeatable with my lvl 63 champ,
Had it down to 2k when another warrior jumped in, tough SOB. I will hang out around the vinyard and wait for the lizard or moose.
Thanks again.
