Is there a way to make sure crops don't die?

Hello, I am new to LOTRO, and therefore new to Farming (I made a Historian). Ive made about 600s farming and selling Barley, however, my question is: is there a way to plant crops, leave them, and plant more? For example, I have to plant about 4 fields of barley and then harvest them before they disappear. Ideally I would like to fill an entire field when there is noone else farming, and then go back and harvest it all to get the most out of my time.

Is there a way that crops can just stay around for longer? Or do I just keep doing it in "chunks" like I am now?

Sorry, I could not find a way to describe it better.
    Thanks for your help

Nope, have to do it in chunks

Best way is to plant them in 5 bunches where you stand then use a keybinding "use item" to pick them up

You don't need a special keybinding to harvest your crops.

Stand in place, sow up to 5 crops (some people claim 6, but I know 5 is safe). Use <delete> key to select an item, then <u> key to use the item. Repeat those two key strokes and you will select and harvest all the crops in the stack.

That's about as fast as it gets. The crops disappear reasonably quickly, so you can't sow too many and expect to be able to catch them all before they go poof!

[Edit: The delete/u trick works very nicely any time the game requires you to pick up or use a small item that's hard to get your cursor to focus on.]

Good news is that the beta changes went live with RoR so now you have around 120 seconds (2 minutes) before planted fields de-spawn. The sowing process is faster (approx. 10 seconds) which now allows you to plant 12 fields at a time before harvesting in the same manner without losing any.

Basically you can now plant twice as much as before.

Combine this with a lot higher drop rate for rare 'crit' items in fields, Farming has definitely taken a step forward without trivialising it too much.
