Why do you play the Champion?

Reason for topic: So that we have a topic to show to people in the future if they're considering playing this class.

What made you try out the Champion? What are some of the things you love about the Champion? Are there certain characteristics that stand out from other classes that you like?, etc.

Explain in detail as if you were trying to talk someone into playing this class. Looking forward to replies

This is not meant to be spam (I don't even see how helpful topics that could potentially help someone decide whether or not they wish to play this class can even be considered spam). It's meant to serve as a helpful topic in the near future. Someone might find it via Google or forum search.

Now are you here to gloat, or would you like to be helpful and share why you like this class?

In all seriousness it's a fun class, I like to actually kill things and I like to be good at it. Honestly for me a Champion is the best class out there and always will be.

    Two words: "Shing Shing."

Seriously, I normally play as a minstrel but when I am tired of the stress of keeping everyone alive, I love just being able to get into the middle of a group of baddies and start button mashing AoE attacks until everything is dead.

because it starts with the same two letters as chuck norris.
because it has shing shing in it.
because it rocks, face to face in the middle of mobs and emerging victorious.

Re: Why do you play the Champion?

I just started playing a Champion because I got tired of never doing any big damage as a guardian. Oh sure I could stay alive forever but that was because it TOOK forever to kill things. It seems like Champs trade some survivability for some good damage... but they still have some survivability. Something like halfway between pure DPS and pure survival, you know?

I had no problems to choose the class for the first char I created ...

Healer ... should have some love for the living things. I love killing things

Tank ... takes the hits for the group, smiling bright. If I get hit I get angry and want to hit back HARD!

Support ... helps others do their thing. I like to do my thing, thanks for YOUR support

Ranged Combat ... keeps the distance, is fragile in close combat. I like close combat, front row's not for the fragile.

Magic ... uhm ... is for bookworms. I don't need instruction on how to swing a 2H, I let it swing and go with the flow.

Huge weapons or double wielding, heavy armour to take some hits before hitting back at least twice as hard, 360° swing to cut off 8 heads when surrounded, cutting single opponent head to toe with a single blow... thats the fun for me. I'm more of a 'in yer face' guy, not a 'behind your back' or 'a few hundred steps in that direction, behind the tree' guy.

When the first time I was in a group and someone yelled 'The mobs are on our healer! HALP! OMG the Tank just got killed! WE WILL WIPE!!!! RUN!!!!!!!111eleventyone' and I just ran ... into the legion of orcs ... SHING!SHING! ... problem solved, no wipe ... that's when I knew I chose the right one

Lotro isn't the first game where I chose the Warrior/Berzerker/Melee class ... it's the class that suits me best.

Re: Why do you play the Champion?

Playing champ is fast-paced. You move to the mobs to fight them and every little bit of finesse involved in any fight is about how to maximize your DPS. Other DPS classes typically have other things to worry about on some level: CC, buffing/debuffing, etc. While we're often counted on to interrupt inductions and remove corruptions, those functions are easily slotted into a DPS rotation. The solution to every problem a champion (and, by extension, the group) faces is to kill everything faster. Tank loses aggro on a mob? Sure, you *could* swap to glory, taunt it, and tank it yourself, or you could just kill it faster. We do have lots of options for survivability now: apart from the obvious bubbles, we can hit Hedge to parry in fervour, we've got a decent self-heal that does damage to the mob, and we wear heavy armor that helps us mitigate more damage than other DPS classes even when we build for pure damage output.

We tear mobs apart like no other class, and that's reason enough to play the champion.

Cool Re: Why do you play the Champion?

I play a Champion because I like to see dead burnt orcs (or whatever) littering the landscape! The sheer joy of inflicting massive damage on multiple opponents is our reason for being. We believe MIGHT makes RIGHT! Hell knows no fury like a scorned woman or a pissed off champ!

Also I love the smell of burnt orc in the morning, it smells like Victory!

Re: Why do you play the Champion?

I initially picked champ because i had played similar classes in other MMO's.
Man i'm so glad I did.
If you want to inflict damage then champ is the class. I mean sure you could be a hunter and pew pew for some big numbers from a distance...yawn. Or an RK only to have someone say 'can you go trait heal for us please?'. Or maybe an lm, if you ever get to go full DPS, but then they can't sustain the high level of DPS for a long time. I don't have an lm but im told this is thge case, down to cooldowns or such.
The lack of big cooldowns is a big plus here.
Some may think champs are easy, and they kind of are. But they really aren't the most hardy of the heavys, guards and cappies can take a lot more punishment so the trick is hitting your now ample selection of survival skills at the right time, and it can be very satisfying when you manage to stay alive above the odds.

    Oh and of course, AOE!!!

Initially, I liked the Dwarven Champ's battle-cry from the intro video. Plus swinging about with 2 axes sounded like a lot of fun. But then I discovered that I could survive almost anything with my champ while wearing the blue outfit. That is where I really came to love and adore the guy. I love to play those puny instances solo with him. Champ 4 life!
