Why do you play the Rune-Keeper?

Reason for topic: So that we have a topic to show to people in the future if they're considering playing this class.

What made you try out the Rune-Keeper? What are some of the things you love about the Rune-Keeper? Are there certain characteristics that stand out from other classes that you like?, etc.

Explain in detail as if you were trying to talk someone into playing this class. Looking forward to replies

Re: Why do you play the Rune-Keeper?

I've always liked ranged nuker classes. When I started, the only other nuker option was the hunter, and there were a million of them (the RK had just been released). I never was one to stand in the front and draw much attention. I liked standing in the back so I could see the flow of combat. I liked how everything was so neatly arranged... The traits, the legacies, the skills, everything was neatly packed into clearly defined groups. I stayed with it for several years, never playing any other class. Eventually lack of content after mirkwood drove me to try a LM... Which really didn't tickle my fancy. I tried a warden, and its slow going, but i'm sticking with it. But nothing is like a RK.

It's not quite the same as it used to be. There are a LOT of bugs, and the threads of cohesion are slowly being pulled apart, but ots still worth playing. The fact that we can fill 2 primary roles is nice too...

Re: Why do you play the Rune-Keeper?

TBH, when I first started, it was my first MMO, and I knew nothing of dual roles, and other such fine concepts.
I was reading through the class descriptions, and I read "Rune-keepers are gifted linguists", and I thought cool! Middle Earth linguist! Lets see how this plays out!
And the rest, they say, is history.
The RK was my first toon, and still my favorite, but I have obviously dabbled in a bunch of other classes to see what they are about when I need a change of pace.

There were some nice posts in a very similar topic before.

My motivation did not change during the last year, even though I am not playing RK much nowadays:

DPS from time to time is a nice bonus as well, though I find my hunter to be much more enjoyable for nuking.

It's the most sparkly class and women tend to like sparkly things.

    :-P

In all seriousness, I prefer castor classes in this game in general (probably any other game as well but I haven't gone beyond LOTRO). I personally like having one class that can be so versatile with dual roles in the game unlike any other class. They are not an easy class to level so to master playing one decently is just a satisfaction. Oh, and they have the prettiest skill effects in game--so sparkly!

Re: Why do you play the Rune-Keeper?

saw someone cast EC when i was a lowbie lm, saw the mob die instantly and knew i wanted to do that too.

i love to heal myself in an emergency, i refuse to play a class that can't heal itself.

the thing that REALLY grabbed me, straight up, was how amazing the runestone pet was at low levels, it healed really well and looked cool, sadly not the case at cap. a pet rock seemed cool.

i liked not having to chase stuff to kill it, death at range

wizard hats, i saw the cobalt 65 rk set and knew i needed that hat, it required r9, 2 weeks before i got r9 in my quest for a wizard hat turbine removed the rank requirement, needless to say i screamed a lot, but by then i was too far into pvp to stop.

pvp, being able to truly belt a creep, we can't hit like we used to but it's still nice to get a high dev. and imagine them posting it in ooc in outrage.

being able to move and do ranged at the same time, used to be a fps player, rk was the closest to that, made me feel like duke nukem

That's another thing that attracted me to the RK. It was touted as an "advanced" class (it has since been demoted to "moderate;" see my previous post). Hunters are STILL amazed at my DPS numbers. I have heard multiple times, "Wow, you do a lot of DPS for a non-hunter." RK's are capable of some incredible things when truly mastered, and I have always been one for challenges.

In fact, when the RK was first released, one of the biggest problems was that Fire DPS was not as high as Lightning, so no one ever traited Fire. Challenge accepted... I've been fire traited since I hit level cap, and I haven't looked back (except to heal). On the VERY rare occasion that I go to the Ettenmoors, it's a 50/50 chance I might trait lightning for the longer Shocking Touch/Perfect Imagery. I HAVE gone out there fire traited... it's tough. But the wargpack "stun-lock from stealth" has pretty much kept me out of the moors. There is no defense against stealth; until there is, I will avoid the area.

Re: Why do you play the Rune-Keeper?

My principal reason for choosing RK was that before Minstrels became gods, and they started majorly changing the classes, it was really good at playing two distinct and nessesary battle types, and it still is. They are excellent healers and DPSers, so they dont have trouble finding groups and they can really help out their friends fill in the holes for groups. Solo-wise, they are just plain fun, I actually have two of them, its a class I would recommend to all, after the god-mode-Minstrels. Its nice having the option to heal or DPS.

Re: Why do you play the Rune-Keeper?

"Fire is cool. Let's go burn something. Fire! FIRE!"

Really, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy burning, blasting, or blizzarding things into oblivion. I've always loved the magic-user archetype, especially the elementalist, so it was a perfect fit.

The Rune-keeper has a more strategic feel because of being an over-time class. Being effective as a rune-keeper means thinking a little further ahead than most classes. It's not a class where I feel like I have to spam the same two or three skills again and again or wait for a parry/defeat response. Of course, I never have a problem spamming fire skills...fire, FIRE!

As one of the 2nd generation classes, the Rune-keeper certainly benefited from Turbine's experience with its first seven classes. That newness made for some rough edges and some hard rebalancing, but especially since the last big update I find the class more enjoyable than ever.

    I love magic users.

This class brought me back to the game. It's just about the most all around perfect class in any MMO I have played.

Fire, frost, lightning, AOE's heals, debuffs, even stealth on the Elf .

    What's not to love!

It is a very versatile class. It can fill different roles - even during fights if it is necessary. I like the mechanics of attunement. On top Rune-Keepers have several very nice support skills.

Re: Why do you play the Rune-Keeper?

I'm an altoholic at heart, and my rk is like playing three alts at once: healing, lightning, and fire. Actually, maybe six: healing pve, healing pvmp, lightning pve, lightning pvmp, fire pve, and, theoretically, fire pvmp. But I don't have to regrind deeds or relog every time I want to have a different play experience! How cool is that?

I'm know-it-all too, so successful predictive healing makes me feel extra cool.

Also, I like having a 'pet rock' that dies so quickly that I can freak my raidmates out by naming it after them. Mwahaha.

Versatility. Having already a LVL75 guardian , fullfilling the leftover posts of the trinity is easily achieved by playing a Rune Keeper. Not to mention that it's arguably more challenging to heal as one, in comparison to a Minstrel.

i do this in the moors, for a laugh. also, i like to lie in front of ec with my runestone up and targeted, it's name you ask? bait.
the other cool thing is i name my runestone after myself, that way people with low settings (most people in the moors) will tab onto "Kalymnor" and waste a little dps on the stone if it's closer but i'm still standing on it, nothing quite like rock tanking creeps XD

omg the second most fun class I have played. I love it, from dps to healing[its more simple to heal on a rk than a mini to me.] I don't have to play music or scream lol. plus the bonus, its a ranged class without a bow
