I would very much like to add a couple songs from my favorite artist to my LOTRO song list. Problem is, all I have are CD tracks, which I can turn into MP3 but there I run into the wall.
I have no problem tweaking a MIDI (or subsequent .abc) file, I'm simply not musically talented enough to plunk out the notes on a keyboard. Simple songs really (keys & vocal, or guitar & vocal), but I am no musician.
I found a few programs that actually (attempt) to do this. I tried 3 of them. WIDI, Intelliscore, and AmazingMIDI. The best of the 3 for what I needed (piano + vocals) was AmazingMIDI. Besides being free! it got me the closest to a usable MIDI file (ie. sounded most like the original). The vocals mess things up a bit, so I am working with Anvil Studio to clean it up before the final .abc transcription.
It gave me (a non-musician) a HUGE helping head start on a from scratch CD to ingame song composition.
What artist and what specific songs? Got a youtube link of them?
I have a couple cd's full of midi files I got from a friend, many of which I've never found on any of the popular free sites; maybe a chance I or someone else could have the midi you are looking for.
The files I have on disc are poorly labeled though, so I need to be sure to know what a song sounds like if I'm browsing for something specific. But I'd be happy to take a look for you if I know what you want^^
Thanks Gemer for the reply. The artist is Michael McDermott. The song I want to do is 'The Idler, The Prophet, and a Girl Called Rain'. His best story song IMHO. Here's a YouTube link to it: http://youtu.be/HV0dKTJ1J8A
Since my OP, I have come across a MIDI controller. I have loads of software, but lack real skill at the keyboard. I did, however, make an attempt at one of his more 'famous' songs. 'Carry Your Cross' got some airplay on GAC and was an easier song for me to plunk out on the keys as a first time player. I laid down the MIDI as best I could, transposed to .abc and adjusted pitch for the lute in game.
