Hi there. Ive been looking through some forums posts with same issue i have atm but still havnt found any solution. Here is issue description: During playing lotro screen turn black, i can see just a game cursour and game seems still run/ or during playing i appear on desktop with lotro cursour on it. Only way to stop it its close lotro via task manager or alt+f4. After that pc freezes very often so only reboot helps . Its very strange those issues began after U6. Some days i play with no prob, other day i might get over 20 black screens. I sent ticket to support,we had long talk but still we didnt solved it. I'd like to get some advice how to solve it or at least id like to know its my hardware problem or lotro engine. Dint have any probs in other games so seems happens in lotro only tho cant say im 100% sure. Here is what i did so far:
1-Reinstalled lotro
2-reinstalled windows with hdd formatting
3-Updated/changed all drivers for video/audio card
4-checked gpu temp top was 78 but for card i use it was always like that and for this card that temperature is fine imo(gtx295), also tried increase fan speed on graphic card and got crash at 52C so more likely its not overheated issue.
5-Video card not manufactury overclocked and pc dont have any overclock at all.
6-Lowered graphics settings of game to very low
All those with no effect
Please post possible solutions or any thoughts.
PC config:Core i7 950 6Gb ddr3 1600 memory corsair gtx295 audiocard asus essence st hdd raptor w7 x64 sp1
Can post dxdiag or w/e if needed .Please note what i played with same hardware for some years with no probs and all that started after U6 came as i said above.
Well, you have certainly done many of the usual suggestions - and then some! I can see why you are exasperated.
One quick thought - what are your in-game audio playback settings? For some users (I was one), you can get BSODs for using hardware audio settings - are using the Generic Software output setting in the drop down menu?

Used all 4 of them software/hardware also EAX disabled and with soundoff with no effect
I'm having the exact same problem, which started for me after the Anniversary Event patch. No idea if this is a software or hardware issue. I'm looking into my hardware today. So far this is the only game that crashes out like this, which leads me to believe it's a software issue of some sort. I've checked my drivers to make sure they are up to date. That's usually the culprit but not this time. Or I need to roll them back.
I reinstall windows (7 64bit), reinstall lotro, reinstall all possibility drivers and still nothing ...
I try install many directX, and nothing...
I don`t know what to do... (
I don`t understand what happened because before update 6 everything work fine with that same configuration win7, video
drivers, directX, sound drivers, etc...
I find on another forums I can uninstall ESETs. When i do that i must reinstall win because system crash...
i repeat: i dont know wlat to do now... (I sit on it longer than two weeks........)

Got EXACTLY the same, what graphic card u use if i can ask?
This problem exists in the Lotro game itself. I've had the exact same problem with the program crashing my whole system. I have to reboot and I haven't been on Lotro since March. This is an Update 6 problem that Turbine needs to fix because it only started happening with me after I updated.
I guess there's a bright side - at least I'm saving money now. lol
I use ati mobility hd2600 (very old card in my notebook - Satellite pro A200)...
Now i try what happen on win xp, because at my girlfriend is everything fine (but she have nvidia card)...
But but but :P i thing it is turbine bug/problem... some (maybe) file crash some driver video card or directx (i don`t know!!)...
Before update 6 everything was fine - zero problems!
I have a nvidia card in my desktop computer. I'm having the same problem as everyone else since Update 6.
I have a strange theory to our problem but I don't know if this is the case or not. Has anyone tried to log on a rarely played alt and do you still crash or are you happily romping around? Another question, has anyone tried to log into a different account on the same computer and does it still crash. My theory is maybe either our character file is corrupted or our account itself is bugged on the server side. Or could be on our computer itself, the character files could be corrupted on our computers? I'm just guessing at this point. How to fix this, I don't know.
Well, it looks as if this "gmGamePlayUI::ExitPortalSpace _Done: called." call causes the game to crash at times.
I also had a complete black screen a couple of minutes ago and I had to shut down the game, but there was no crash report for this one.
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 680 (Point of View, model GTX 680 Ultra Charged), WHQL reference driver 301.42
Sound Blaster Recon3D, driver version 1.00.22 (2012-04-17) installed, drivers then (auto)updated by Windows 7
AMD Phenom II 1090T
16GB RAM (I checked the RAM a couple of times, it's ok)
Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 Bit
Running Lotro in DX11 with full details, OpenAL Access + EAX.
Check memory voltage. Manually set memory voltage to Maximum that the memory manufacturer recommends. Some motherboards do not correctly set voltage on systems with a lot of memory.
And/Or.
Pull out some of your memory. You have 16 so pull out at least half. Some motherboards fail to provide needed voltage and/or fail to support 16 (or even 8) even though they claim that they do.
I've got a black screen problem, too. Mine occurs on bootup. Haven't been able to play for about a month now. I've been playing four years, and first time I've had this problem, since that recent big update. I tried almost everything mentioned above already, except reinstalling windows. I don't see the point. It won't help. I've also tried network troubleshooting with no effect.
On the up side of all this. I finally broke a bad habit! Really have disliked the direction of the game recently so this is a positive! Yay!
Underclock the video card 10 or 20%. If that solves the problem then you have a card.
Did with -20% and tested with no changes at all so it clearly not a card. Btw few days back had connect issues with ~40% packet loss and dc to server every few min while none of my friends had any probs. They fixed it in last patch so now its time for black screen fixing. I'd like to see any GM responce as long as it seems not just my problem. Last few days was insane crashed every hour, over 20 per day. Impossible to play atm
GUYS! I had the same problem, I changed the Grphics from DirectX 10 to DirectX9 and it was fixed!
Let me know if it helps you guys
Did that long ago and even tried to run with win xp compatibility mode with no effect. Also tried windowed mode as well without anything changed. My guess its Windiows NT kernel video driver crashes while playing lotro. It seems they made changes in U6 in client core which makes that driver crash when playing the game. Just my guess tho. Also tried to change PhysX settings and power mode to max perfomance( found that 1 in web) with no effect as well. Please note its hard to test as i mentioned above coz some days all fine and others 20+ crashes.
Problem solved now - just changed video card to new (gtx680) so it was a card issue. Actually its cooling system was worst so far, when hot weather on load 90C. So guys change your cards asap and let me know if thats helped. Good luck.
I see no one has been talking in this section since July, so sorry if this has been fully addressed. I recently joined (Very experienced gamer here), and out of the week since downloading it from Steam, I've only not crashed twice out of every time I've tried [Which frankly has been A LOT]. Getting quite frustrated, and not sure what to do. Help?
Lotro Client crashes to desktop after few hours play

This has worked in some cases, but dont get your hopes up if it doesnt.
Go to your The Lord of the Rings Online Folder in your My Documents. From there move the user preferences file to your desktop or something. your computer will make another user preferences file in its place that has different information. after originally moving it, just load LotRO!
Using Gtx 660 and have since af few weeks a black screen for ten seconds. After that my charakter is moving slowly but still to play. I though my power supply is brocken but the new one doesn't solve the issue. Play in moment in directx 9 because there are to much bugs with 11 in time.
I had the same black screen problem. The only thing I did differently the last time I played was that I changed the graphics from DirectX9 to DirectX10. Changing it under options back to DirectX9, closing the client and restarting it fixed it.
