Thread: Characters in the web portal.

Since the move over to Turbine I've been looking forward to being able to view my chars and also show them to others in the web portal.
However it has never worked.

All I get when ever I try to click the Characters menu is:

I know several people from my own kin and several other European players have posted bugs about this and also posted on the forums about it.
All we ever get is that it's a known problem and that Turbine is looking into it.

But when will it be fixed? It's unfair that US residents can use this great service but EU residents cannot.
We all pay approximately the same money for your services and most of my friends have been playing for several years.
We want this fixed Turbine!

I don't know of a single EU resident that has a working Character tab in the web portal.

I just now realised that the Kinships tab don't work either. All I get when I click it is this..

Firefox:
The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
cookies.

IE:
No error, it just stands there loading forever.

This is a known issue.

The only reply we get is "The site is still in Beta"
It is obviously not high on their "To Do" list. Unless a Store Page breaks

There is a work around for the Kinship Page
Basically what it is, is:
Any Kin on EU Servers that were created BEFORE the migration cannot be integrated into MyLotro

Suggest using alts to create a new kin of similar name.
Keep at least the minimum required members so as not to collapse that kin.
Leave it to level up.
Once kin has reached Min level 7 (for Kin House) you can move all the members you wish to the new kin and disband the old one.

The workaround for the Character Panel is to ADD the Character Sheet Widget

I did try the character widget and sure, I can see my characters there.
A kinnie cannot however, when he try he get the same error as I do when I try to click charactes tab.

Also I can't see my gear in the widget, nor can I find a way to let others see my characters or gear throu it.
Also it will take some space to have 11 or 12 chars in different widgets.

I can understand it's not high on the list but I mean it's been quite a long time since the migration and as I said I can't really see why EU members should be treated differently.

It's kind of like when Rohan is released only US members can buy combat horses, EU members can only get regular horses. That was a bit extreme I know but I hope you understand what I mean.

As for the kinships tab suggestion I find that workaround abit wierd since I bet we can't get the money back for the transaktions needed with buying a new kinhouse and starting a new kin and so on.

I really think it's sad that Turbine kind of neglects the EU members after the migration. Me and many with me was really hoping things would be better after the migration and not having to deal with CodeMasters any more.

I might be a bit sensitive but I really feel quite neglected by Turbine. Many things have gotten better like getting patches quick and so on but some things like getting responses to posts and stuff have really not gotten better.

Once more, thanks allot for responding and I really hope that the web portal will get 100% accessable for EU mebers to soon.

It's the same as when you get a new house..

You Abandon your old House, you get back any rent paid in advance. But NOT the purchase price.
You then BUY the new House

The ADDED benefit of this work around is ...
The new Kin IS incorporated with MyLotro
So all members will be able to use the Kin Section when they move to the new kin

That is why I suggested levelling the kin to rank 7. That way any Items that are in your Current Kin House wont be lost, while the new kin waits for its Kin House

You are not be treated differently. Your issue is one of many problems with the web service that affect all aspects of MyLotro and the Lore Book. For example, crafting information in signature failed in Feb, 2011. It is still broke for everyone. It was broke long before Codemasters shut down at the end of May, 2011.

IMHO - Turbine does not have any interest in fixing the problems. As time passes, more and more features and functions break. They are left that way. For some former EU customers, you are faced with a show stopper error. You are not in the situation of folks like me. Oww. Now what. Another tile came off the ceiling and smashed on the floor. Great another place for the rain to get in.

I keep hoping Turbine management will allocate people, money and resources to clean all the tile pieces up. Fix the roof before it gets worse or completely falls down. I get the feeling that the cavalry is not on the way. Hope is lost. It is futile.

Well at least it's nice to see that I am not the only one reacting about this and also that not only EU customers are affected.

I think it's so sad that Turbine don't work more on promoting this game, their services and so on.
In Sweden there are just about no information at all about LOTRO anymore.

If they promoted it more and sent out information to game shops about new releases and so on I think even more people would come back from games like SWOTR and WoW.

I would love to see some statistics about how many daily players they have on each of the servers and also say weekly gamers. And even how many actually buy turbine points with real money.

It can't be that bad leaving them with no earnings I think. After all, many gamers I speak to roam out and try other games as they are launched but they always come back to LOTRO since no other game can even compare.

Keep up the gaming all lovely gamers and please, please, please Turbine.. Start fixing my.lotro.com
