Re: Hope we eventually get to find the Ent-Wives!! :)
there has been speculation due to a couple of quests (and a bit of backup from the books to go with it - fangorn commenting that the entwives would like the shire) that tom bombadil put them into some sort of stasis in the old forest (flowers anyone?)

I wonder if they simply got tired of their no good Al Bundy husbands not taking them out for a fun night out and decided to scarper.
They are probably living the high life with their fawning elf "friends" in Valinor which they got to whether by crossing over the ice bridge, floating across any water section up north or took a boat over with the elves.
That could explain why nobody has ever seen them. Valinor became a one way trip.

If we ever found the Ent-wives we would tell them about the Ents and it wouldn't be the tragic story it is supposed to be. They are gone.

There actually is a lot of discussion about the nature of the Ent-wives within Tolkien Studies. There is nothing mention about what really happened to them in the books. Yet, in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, letter number 144, a fan does write to him asking his opinion on the Ent-wives. He replies:
"I think that in fact the Entwives had disappeared for good, being destroyed with their gardens in the War of the Last Alliance (Second Age 3429 – 3441) when Sauron pursued a scorched earth policy and burned their land against the advance of the Allies down the Anduin..."
The nature of the Ent-wives really revolves around how you define "lore". Is it what is found within the writings of the epic or is it based on what the author of the books thinks happened?
You also find this within the world of Harry Potter and the sexuality of Albus Dumbledore where J.K. Rowling stated he is gay, but there is nothing that implies within the books.
I could see Turbine adding Ent-wives to the game and I wouldn't have a problem with it. Yet, personally myself I think they are gone because Tolkien said so.

It's not so much about them being gone for good but about them never being reunited with the Ents. How would you prevent that if they add them to the game?

Read the quote I posted again, Tolkien said they were destroyed along with their gardens.
I can't prevent what they do or don't add to the game. I just said that I wouldn't have a problem with (from a lore standpoint) of them adding Ent-wives.

But you yourself are willing to omit this fact.

The question is how would you prevent the reunion or how would you imagine the devs would prevent it. I am against adding the Entwives because it would mean they will get reunited with the Ents that way. And that is not supposed to happen.

Since he phrases it this way, apparently, he wasn't quite sure himself... doesn't that give room for surprises? (Pleasant ones... I'd love a happy ending to the Ent-wives story.)
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the Letters aren't considered to be lore the same way the books are; they're more speculative, less crystallized, if you see what I mean. If Tolkien was done thinking about it, he would have written it down somewhere other than a letter, wouldn't he?

'Hoom" Did you find all the flowers in the Old Forest? If you read the accompanying story line you might think Tom 'hid' the surviving Ent wives in the old forest.

While Tolkien expresses in Letter 144 that it is likely that the Entwives had been completely destroyed, he goes on to say in that same letter:
Some, of course, may have fled east, or even have become enslaved: tyrants even in such tales must have an economic and agricultural background to their soldiers and metal-workers. If any survived so, they would indeed be far estranged from the Ents, and any repprochement would be difficult--unless experience of industrialized and militarized agriculture had made them a little more anarchic. I hope so. I don't know.
So if we were to find Entwives, it would probably only be after Sauron's defeat unless somehow we were able to penetrate deep into Enemy territory. I suppose it is possible, too, that some might be found in some remote land far from where any people were.
