Thinking of getting a house in the near future...

Well this is my first character and I'm only level 16 lol, but have about 1g saved up already, and was thinking that the income from quests will only become more and more as I progress. The 50s a week after doesn't seem too bad.

Reason I'm actually thinking about this is I seem to be filling up my storage space rather quickly. Only purchase I've made so far is the buying extra storage in the vault for 50s, next upgrade is a HUGE jump at 750s... I'm an explorer and find myself having to sell other mats like for scholar, weaponsmith etc due to not having any room. Right now, I'm feeling that I for sure will have alts in the near or distant future and feel bad that I'm selling all these mats which I can use later on. On the other hand, I'm thinking dude... I'm only level 16, the amount of mats that I'll accumulate by level 30 or even 40 will be so much even the house won't help me lol.

I guess a better question is... Is it even worth it in the long run hanging on to these? If so maybe a house might be worth it. If it isn't, well I guess that solves my problem

Buying a house is definitely worth it. They're lots of fun to decorate and you get extra storage (two chests for the large house, one for the small). Only con is the housing storage only excepts non-bound items (items that can be traded at the auction house, or sent in the mail). I use mine mainly for storing cosmetics and dye to make room for more important equipment in my vault. So, YES! It is definitely worth it in the long run.

from the hindsight I got, it is worth saving the tier 1 Scholar mats if you plan to create a scholar, unless you're high enough to pay the AH prices. meaning it's not that hard to earn a gold a day.
your never going to have enough storage space.
here's a link to see the future cost for upgrading your storage (Personal Vault) http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Vault so you can have an idea.
and here is a link about the housing, each chest holds 30 spots http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Housing
the up keep price is per week not per month, but you can pay the equivalent of a month in advance, but that price is per week, and each of your characters on that account (server) can contribute to the rent, so it's not that bad as it looks.

So if it's tough for you to pay that one time fee to upgrade your personal Vault, you may want to hold on that house if your main reason is storage space for right now. I don't think you'll have any problems after the 20's, I believe in your mid twenty's you can afford to do both.

But that teir1 scholar stuff is tough to get, I find the tier2 was not so tough, and teir3 is just falling outta my pockets, I'm not high enough to be collecting any tier 4+ items so I'm not sure if if it's just as easy getting it as it is now.

you're doing better then I did, I never reached that 1g till almost 20, but when I started Turbine a few days later had that +100% exp, and I was just doing slayer deeds, and not quest, I had to go back as lvl's 18-20 doing lvl 10-12 quest and catch back up, I'm sure I still missed some quest, I'm still looking for them

Re: Thinking of getting a house in the near future...

I have a small house on my original server, and a medium house on my current server. In my opinion, you shouldn't count on a house helping with your storage slots. It might seem useful in the short run, but once you have a house, you're going to want to start decorating it. You'll be picking up maps, music boxes, seasonal wallpaper, snow-globes, kegs, fishing trophies.... Unless you're willing to live in an empty box, I'd expect your housing slots will fill up with seasonal decorations pretty quickly. Further, the houses aren't exactly centrally located - you'll be doing a lot of travel back and forth just to deposit and exchange mats. If you're using the 2s travel rations to port directly too the house - think how fast that money will add up.

Also, don't forget the rent on a house. If you're playing regularly, it shouldn't be much of a worry. But if you take 2-3 month long breaks from the game like I do, expect to come back to a hefty back-rent bill to pay before you can access the storage again.

I'm not trying to steer you away from a house - I think if you can afford one, you should get one, just for the fun. I'm just saying that a house didn't help my storage needs out any.

As to alts, it takes only a couple of hours to create one and run it through the introductory quests to level 6. I'd recommend creating a couple and use them to hold on to the extra mats you're collecting. Here's food for thought - since gold is constantly being created in games like this, inflation keeps raising the cost of mats in the auction house. The stack of ore you sell for 500s today could sell for 1g a year from now. If you're watching your money, it's better to have the mats in the vault than coin in the wallet, because the coin will never increase in value over time.

If you can afford a house, I think its a great inventment. They're tons of fun to decorate and there are chests you can store extra items in.
I didn't buy my house until I was around lvl 30. I was greedy and didn't want to spend the gold on it. However, its really not that hard to get money in game. When you complete a slayer deed, vendoring the junk will usually take care of rent for a few weeks.
Just be sure that before you buy you have enough coin to pay the upkeep for a few weeks in advance. Otherwise, you will lose your house soon after you buy it and waste the 1g.

    Have fun with it!

If you're planning on having alts later, the other advantage to a house is for trading items between them. The Shared Storage feature is more convenient than a house chest, but it costs Turbine Points as opposed to the house which can be bought with in-game gold. If you don't want to expend the TP on Shared Storage, you can use the house chests for the same purpose, putting items in the house chest with one character and getting them out with another. If you're trading lots of different items back and forth, that can be significantly easier than mailing them all one at a time.

Housing is a great idea, I had a deluxe house that cost 7g by level 30 easily. The cost of upgrades on your vault is nothing, you'll be earning more gold than you know what to do with as you level up. Also, the weekly cost of the house is also nothing as long as you play somewhat regularly. I started a Captain a while back and had 5 gold by level 25 I think.

Housing is my favorite thing; I have nine of them. LOL

But in a practical sense, a house chest is the cheapest shared storage you can obtain. Plus the portals to handy places and if you like to decorate or RP, it adds a lot of personal character to the game.

As a work-around for storage, you can start a second account (same e-mail, diff account name) and get 2 new characters that you can then mail items to. If the items are low-value (scrolls, cosmetics) the postage costs are not that bad. It would only work for long-term storage, nothing that ''you'll need this back tomorrow'', but it's another 2x(45+30+vault upgrades) slots for the cost (and hassle) of mailing the items back and forth. (For some, the cost and time of visiting the nearest mailbox will seem more attractive than the cost and time of visiting your one house. ymmv.)
