Lotro doesnt have any particular build paths. Just find armour that will raise your vitality and might. try to do deeds that will raise those stats as well. The main thing with LOTRO is learning how to use your class and what your responsibility is in a fellowship. Champs are DPS classes, so you dont have much responsibility other than do damage, and not pull agro from the tank. You can also tank, so you should learn the skills that pull agro. If the tank cannot agro all the mobs, then its your responsibility to pull any mobs from the healer as the off tank.

to be a great champ there are some rules you must follow (please dont take these seriously xD )

other then that, weapon wise it depends on preference so don't get into the fight of Dual Wielding is better then 2handed weapons it doesnt really matter you wont get kicked out of an instance for having one or the other, and for armor you should find a good kinship, ask an armorer friend from time to time to make you armor that has Might/Vitality/Agility (in that order) and same thing with a weapon smith =)

the champion has 2 main roles
    1) Sustained DPS
    2) Main Tank/Off Tank
these are the two "paths" as you say you can follow

and for specific builds, again it depends on preference =)

    Vreal: Level 75 Warden
    Griminsborith: Level 75 Champion
    Orearry: Level 37 Burglar
    Togira: Level 36 Minstrel
    Knurlagn: Level 26 Runekeeper

To be the best champ there's a few things you can do...

    1) Pull EVERYTHING in EVERY instance.

    2) ##### at the healers when they don't keep you alive

    3) Laugh when they all ##### at you for wiping them

    4) Profit

Honestly don't worry about best build or stuff like that, not until you get waaayyy down the line and even then it's not that big of importance till you probably get close to level cap or do heavy raiding.

However this is what I can give you.

    1. Make sure your weapons are ALWAYS upgraded. As a champion my suggestion is when you get the opportunity to get a vocation (or profession) make sure you choose armsman. It has a weapon-smith profession which obviously you can make weapons. This way you can always have the very best weapons every 2-3 levels. It makes a big difference when you're leveling up and you have a low level weapon and you switch to a higher level one or one that causes more damage.

    2. Try (not absolutely necessary) to have upgraded armor as often as you can. you can get away with not having the best armor all the time, but as you get to the higher levels (level 25-30 in my opinion) start looking for armor that one is up to level and two has good stats on it. Try to make friends with someone who can make armor for you, or make another toon that has metal-smith has their profession and that way you can make your own armor as well.

    3. Jewelry. A lot of people forget about jewelry, but you're going to get most of your stats through your jewelry.

When I refer to stats I refer to Might, Vitality, Will, Fate and Agility. As a champion you want Might to be high and Vitality to be high as well. Might is pretty much how hard you can hit. The harder you hit the faster you kill. Vitality is how much hp you have. You don't want to forget about Vitality because then you might be easier to kill. You want Agility to be high as well so that your hits don't miss, but don't make it as high as Might or Vitality. Finally Will and Fate, as a champion you don't have to worry too much about having Will and Fate be high, but don't let them be super low either. This might help: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Character_Stats

Back to jewelry, look for the stuff that has stats you need. Obviously since you're new you won't have the best or get all the stuff you want, but you'll get there.

This is just some basic stuff to get your build up and running and started. After about level 25-30 if you want to know more, you can ask people in game for advice or come to the forums again. We'll be happy to help.
