Does this mean that Fog of War will be back?

I'm not on the test server but just read the patch notes for 7.1 and if this means that the Fog of War will be back then I'm ecstatic.. "Mapnotes that must be discovered to be seen will once again not appear on your map unless they have been found on that character."

No, there was a bug in U7 which caused all Points of Interest flags to appear on all maps regardless of whether that character had discovered them or not.

This is just fixing that bug. The map will still be revealed in full, but the PoI flags will not be there until you've discovered the location.
Confused about the F2P/Premium/VIP account types? This post may help.

That's a bummer. I was sad to see the Fog of War go away. Speaking of Fog of War, I'm in the mood to play Warcraft 2 again. I love that game.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"
Civ II rules after all these years......

Did they really remove fog of war because it was bugged and simply easier to scrap it rather than fix?

The fog of war was removed in...update 5 or so? Isengard? Was a lot of heated discussion about it back then. This has to do with Points of Interest only, as far as I can tell.

AW: Does this mean that Fog of War will be back?

Rumor has it, that it were performance issues. It's a lot database usage to store all the info about "been there done that".
