In game option for perks?
It has now been a while since update 6 and basically the removal of the ability to aquire destiny points. (Yes, you can still get 200 points per lvl when leveling, but after reaching the cap, you have got 15k points and have no ways to get any more). For pvp purposes destiny points were replaced with commendations. However, there wasn't any replacement system for destiny point perks.
So currently destiny points remain the only way to aquire perks (besides the lotro store), but there isn't any viable way to aquire destiny points anymore. This will inevitably lead to situation where players run out of their point supplies from pre update 6 era and can't buy any more perks in game.
While u6 was on bullroarer, Sapience made a post explaining that they are gradually phasing out the destiny points and looking into ways of making the perks available in game again. However, there hasn't been any further news of such in-game way of aquiring perks. Would it be possible to get some schedule for when such system is coming? And what is it excatly?
Meanwhile the store becomes the only way of getting perks for more and more players as they run out of their destiny point supplies.Last edited by Targhelion; May 22 2012 at 08:13 AM.

Re: In game option for perks?
I believe the correct response here is: WAI.
Keep rolling new Freeps through level 20 and delete; rinse; repeat. Creeps cannot get DPs at all anymore, unless we roll a Freep and level it. I would like DPs to come back as much as the next person, but the truth is; DPs weren't leeching money from Turbine's player-base, so it had to go. I understand this is a business, and they are in business to make money; I get it. However, implementing broken mechanics (Comms caps, skill costs for low ranked creeps, virtually forcing PvE in a PvP zone, etc.) to increase their bottom line while simultaneously increasing the imbalance between Creeps and Freeps is the death knell of our beloved 'Moors. The best Turbine can hope for are delays in the release of GeeDubTwo, because we're going to hemorrhage PvPers. /stepsoffsoapbox

Re: In game option for perks?
Destiny points is the only thing VIP:s now have that Premium or Free to Play cannot get. Removing them will take away the last incentive to pay monthly for the game. although people do use real money to buy quest packs and instances, at some point they will have them all. At that point the money flow will only be from the very newest content, and only for a short while.
I myself paid for three months two weeks ago to be able to use some of my 90.000 DP:s for double and accelerated exp (as well as get some rest exp, even though the effect is quite minimal when I ding 2-5 times/day) when leveling my newlymade Captain. If the only actual effect from VIP is opening things like bags, virtue slots and riding skill, I would have only paid for 1 month. Anything you can get with DP:s is already available with TP:s. DP:s don't bring in money on their own (they do in the form of subscriptions), TP:s do.
Maybe the next move for "them" is to remove the VIP option altogether and make people pay the full price for those. ;-P
For me, Destiny Points is one of the "cool" features that feels like it's LotRO:s "own" thing. It has a slightly heroic ring (pun intended) to it. :-)Bravery calls my name, in the sound of the wind in the night. My sword will drink blood, and I will fight, yes I will fight, in the Dawn of Battle!
