those that have housing what made you decide the area you choose ?
I still have some time before I can afford a house. So to help me decide where I want to purchase a house I want to hear what your reasons for choosing the location you did.
Kinda curious why
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
The main reason I chose Thorin's Hall housing (dwarf area) is because it's easy to get to if my housing travel still hasn't cooled down. You simply stable to Thorin's Hall and then it's a short 1 minute ride to the housing area. Also, my only character at the time had the prospecting ability and the superior forge is in Thorin's Hall close to the house.
Now that I've been there a while, and have explored other people's houses, I find the dwarf housing very nice, warm and cozy. With the right furniture, wall design, and floor design, it's really a very neat house. I think I would like to get a man housing location at some point on a different account.
For kin houses, I've just found the Elf one to be the most roomy, decorative, and pleasant.
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
I originally had a personal kinhouse shared with a friend in Thorin's Hall for its convenience and the great atmosphere of the Dwarven area. I ended up getting my personal house in the Shire. I thought it would be fun to decorate a different style of home, since I already had the dwarf one. I love the atmosphere of the elven area, but it is so far from anything useful that I decided a personal house there would be inconvenient(though that is much less relevant once your characters get up in level and have better travel options). Bree doesn't really appeal to me much, so I didn't consider it. I went with the Shire because I loved the atmosphere even if the rooves are low, and it is close to stables (though not as close as Thorin's of of course). I also wanted easy access to the superior oven in Michel Delving for my cook, and the superior scholar's facility in the Mathom House is also useful at lower levels.
Later, I deleted the character that was head of my personal alt kin, and rather than leadership being transferred to the successor or officers, the kin got disbanded Goodbye home in Thorin's. Now I have an alt kinhouse in the Shire rather than in Thorin's. I almost went with Thorin's because it is very convenient and the atmosphere is wonderful, but it was easier to have my kinhouse and personal house in the same housing area in terms of accessing storage and moving items around in housing. I do miss my Thorin's home though. You just can't achieve the creepy atmosphere you can achieve in Thorin's with a hobbit house.
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
I personally , Just visited each one , and went from there , I liked the Bree homes, So that what I purchased, I started with a small basic house, then went deluxe, Got it mainly for storage . The Edition ,I just down the list until I found one I liked, With the house I wanted,,, Have fun , and just be you, Its you house , Happy house hunting, I just wished LOTRO, Would let at least account have a kin house, , or better housing , or housing for more then one of you toons,
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
Location, location, location. From breeland homestead, east takes you into wild areas like lonelands then trollshaws. West is a not-too-ardous ride to west bree stables, from there it is only 1 silver-ish to thorins or michel delving. Which I am prepared to pay. The 30 silverish for most other travel routes still seems too steep for what you get, even to my level 70+s. Man, I miss those free travel weekends.
Another factor you might want to consider is the race of the owner/main user. Although travel options get better at high level, nipping back to your OWN races start area is expected to consume a racial slot i.e. you cannot 'buy' the free travel route to your OWN homeland for that character, only the free travel routes to the other homelands. Another too-high a price, if you ask me. So having your own home with your own race allows you to nip back home via your house, as opposed to tying up a racial slot for the teleport. On the third hand, (how do humans build sensible arguments with only two? Crippling) elven racial travel is to rivendell, not celondim.
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
For crafters the Dwarf homestead is best located, trouble is I hate the architecture and the gloomy environment. Bree is popular for the reasons given by others.
IMO the more useful skill is the Bree port Humans get, being able to get there instantly means choice of homestead is more down to personal preference IMHO.
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
Shire was the most convenient zone for me really. Bree and Duillond are way too far away from town, so you can't really use housing port as an extra swift travel.
Thorin's Hall tends to restrict you from doing straight line travel, so going from your house to the vendors is very annoying.
Finally, the Shire tends to be the most convenient with services; vault, vendors, auction, crafting are all in one small area. Thorin's has too much running everywhere.
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
Thorin's on Landroval because the stables and crafting facilities are a stone's throw from the front door.
Got a house in Falathorn on Arkenstone because the neighborhood is drop dead gorgeous. The initially appealing round rooms are now driving me batty though. The same tables and beds that line up with the walls in every other type of home seem to sit in the middle of the room with elf architecture. I'm tired of running an obstacle course in my own house. I'm close to swapping for Thorin's once again.
Bree homestead's remind me of the 'burbs where I grew up right down to the kitschy lawn decoration. Somehow the same stupid year-round snowy yule tree that seems hilarious and surreal in hobbit, dwarf and elf country take on a frighteningly familiar trailer park vibe in humanville. {{{shudder}}} Anything but THAT.
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
At first I chose the home based on the race of my main character on that server. But I quickly realised that the Bree and Celondim housing was a pain to travel from after I got there, unless I was porting out. Also the Celondim housing with the winding staircase got on my nerves quickly when I just wanted to get to the storage chest.
Now I decide on housing mostly based on what crafting facilities are nearby. So Thorin's Hall is my favourite choice with both superior forges and superior workbenches there, and I can buy swift travel to Michel Delving if I have a cook or scholar. Yes, the same reasoning could be applied to the Shire homestead, but I have a thing for caves, and the Thorin's homestead took my breath away the first time I visited it. The Shire is a nice place to visit but a bit too twee to live in for me
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
I have 8 accounts and 9 houses because I love to decorate.
3 in the Shire
2 in Thorin's
2 in Falathlorn
1 plus a kin house in Bree
Seems like there are trade-offs no matter where you eventually land. As others said, Falathlorn is gorgeous but inconvenient. Thorin's is very convenient but you need to like caves. The Shire houses are the largest and also convenient to Michel Delving. And the Bree homestead is most familiar, most popular but the farthest from town; I've often thought it was closer to Lone Lands than Bree.
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
The Shire was my choice due to a beautiful location. Green grass, farm land, and a nice peaceful community. Plus I got to love on a hill next to a waterfall; great fishing spot!
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
When I saw 3 Brookbank St (Shire) I had to have it. Plus it's convenient, and I don't like caves.
Falathorn is nice, but not quite my style, and it's miles from everywhere. Why do they have stables to the housing areas, but not FROM the housing areas?
Re: those that have housing what made you decide . .
When I bought a personal house, I wanted a Deluxe because it has more storage chests and more decorating hooks. I picked Thorin's Hall because my main is a Tinker, and I was able to grind enough rep to use the Superior Workbench at TH. I also don't have any hunters, so having a house in a neighborhood near a major stable point was very helpful, in those days before additional milestones and the Hurried Traveler skill. I picked my house in the neighborhood because it was close to both the exit and the NPCs... and I liked how 1 Low St. was actually high up on a hill, right under the hole in the cavern.
I chose the kin house because of what my kinnies wanted, and what was available. It's in Bree Homesteads, but close to the NPCs and it has a great view.
