Thread: Problem with LOTRO after a computer crash

Hello everyone. I was just playing when suddenly my computer crashed with a blue screen. After it restarted, everything I did (like deleting desktop icons) was extremely slow, so I reset again. After doing that, I launched LOTRO and logging in was fine, up until the game actually loaded.

At this point, when the game loaded and I could see my character, the entire screen was frozen (even his cape was stuck in mid-air). There was a regular windows cursor with the loading circle next to it, and a ctrl+alt+tab showed it was "Not Responding." I closed it a few times and tried again, with the same problem. Sometimes it even froze during the final load screen, before even entering the game (again with the windows cursor), but after waiting a while, it will eventually load the game but remain frozen. After waiting this out, the game finally shuts down with the message "The connection to the server was lost," which seems a little strange since my connection is fine.

Anyone know what happened, or how to fix it? I thought maybe something bad happened to this particular character because I was playing him when the crash happened, but I tried logging in as another character and it did the same thing, so I'm not sure.

I hope someone knows what to do!

I would try a fresh install. It is possible that data on your hard drive was corrupted when you crashed, and some of the LotRO files may have been damaged. While you are at it, you may as well re-install the latest drivers for your devices. It may be a good idea to do a disk integrity check (a quick goole search will find you a link I'm sure) and defragment the drive.

it would realy help if we knew what the blue screen crash error was, if you use windows 7 you may find the error recorded arround the time your system first rebooted after the crash, in windows event viewer (start search/run type eventvwr.msc)

but from the basic symptoms it sounds like you have a problem with your hard disk
first place id suggest starting is running a scan of the disk for errors from (my) computer right click on the c:\ drive and select tools > click on check now (w7\vista), if lotro is installed on a seperte drive id suggest doing the same for the drive where lotro is installed

Thanks for the responses. A disk check and defrag didn't solve the problem, so I broke down and did an uninstall/reinstall. Thankfully (about 7 hours later) it worked again.

Unfortunately my PC crashed again tonight while playing, but this time I was able to log back in without a problem. I fear I may have a deeper issue I need to figure out.

Try and write down the error code on the BSOD if it happens again. It will look something like 0x0000000000009e

Its the digits after the zeros that are important. Once you have that, you will need all the technical information about your system you can gather. Error codes seem to vary a bit between windows versions, and each code can have multiple meanings.

Causes vary from bad disk sectors, voltage variations, bad memory moduals, to CPU or GPU overheating. There are a number of sites around that provide BSOD help. A quick search for BSOD 124 will probably find you several different forums about that particular code. Usually the people that will be trying to help will ask for the report the other user asked about.
