What u Think?
So i know there are alot of bugs in LOTRO that a lot of people are complaining about and good news dose seem to travel slower than Bad news.
So my Question to the community as a whole is besides all the buggy stuff in lotro what about lotro do you love the most? I spend some time reading alot of posts about how classes are broken/unbalanced, raids are broken, skills are broken, and the list goes on...
My intention in this thread is to post positive things about LOTRO (the things they did right) as i believe the vast majority of this game is great (yes it has its flaws) but i want to know why you play it, and what you love about it?
Favorite Area and Why?
Favorite Class and Why?
Favorite Game mechanic (cosmedic system, LI system.. ect)?
Favorite quest chain?
Anything really, just want to start a happy post about the good in the game reading all this other stuff just brings me down!
Thanks to all who post :P

Re: What u Think?
What I love best (as I just posted in a different thread) are the Epic Books: the continuing characters and their story.
Those, Turbine is continuing to do exceedingly well. For me -- YMMV -- that makes up for both the inevitable bugs and the ones that would be evitable if WB would fund them a little better.....Eruanne - Shards of Narsil - Elendilmir

Re: What u Think?
I am completely consumed by Tolkien period.....so there is no where I go in this game that does not excite me and is enhanced tenfold by the fact that I have read a lot of Middle Earth Books...reading History of Middle Earth Vol.1-12 now and it just keeps making this game better and better.
Favorite area is everywhere......there is not a place in this game I go to where my imagination does not go completely wild. I find the super powerful enemy strongholds to be very edgy and exciting......the Shire is great just because it's the Shire.......Carn Dum is just like *shiver*.....Moria was spectacular IMO.
I'm an LM...my favorite part of the game is using Lightning Strike and Ents go to War and whenever my other damage spells devastate..always fun
Most amusing part of the game are the little runt goblin voiceovers.......Get HIM....DIE....hahahaha.....and then their dying commentary and when they say ow LOL
Whenever I am annoyed with this game it's because I can't log in or I was in a bad mood to begin with and this game puts me in a better one.Last edited by vVAnjilaVv; May 20 2012 at 05:30 PM.

Re: What u Think?
Well - given how hard it can be to actually get these forums to work ....
Anyway - I love my LM - particularly the pet aspect and the crowd control.
Seeing Rivendell across the valley always gives me a nice feeling.
I have been very happy for most of the epic, particularly being able to solo it now, I was WAY behind before they made the changes. The Balrog lives!! Oh, and give MECCG a try.

Re: What u Think?
I think the good about this game FAR outweighs the (few) bad things in this game.
It is my favorite game of all time and I don't imagine ever stopping it.
Favorite Area and Why? Rivendale, because the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. But I find beauty in many areas. I also love Bree because it seems there a lot of players there and I also love to socialize and make music for people with my instruments.
Favorite Class and Why? Minstrel! Because it is a healer role, and the instruments are great. The armour is nice looking.
Favorite Game mechanic (cosmedic system, LI system.. ect)? The music system!
Favorite quest chain? I can't remember what it is called, or if it is a chain even, but the quest where you run around delivering pies and at the end you can keep a pie that you can carry around.

Re: What u Think?
Favorite Area and Why?
I like a few different areas, like Evendim and Forochel and Great River. I find them pretty.
Favorite Class and Why?
Hmm...captain I think. Or hunter...or maybe RK. Heck, I don't know, I enjoy them all for different reasons.
Favorite Game mechanic (cosmedic system, LI system.. ect)?
I do like the cosmetic system even though I have zero clue about fashion. But at least I don't have to show off my crazy unmatching armour. Though I do feel weird fighting in a dress.
Favorite quest chain?
I find the hobbit quests in Oatbarton in Evendim pretty fun. I can be a farmer for the day and its a nice little break after fighting and fighting and more fighting in GA.

Re: What u Think?
In my experience with online communities there will always be a never ending stream of whiners and negative people. So save yourself the trouble and just skip all the threads that are all about that. and what you love about it?
Favorite Area and Why?
I have two:
1. I love Evendim because of the layout, the feel and how pretty it is. If I had to choose somewhere in Middle Earth to live, it would be on the shores of the lake in a cabin. I also enjoy the Lore in Evendim.
2. Dunland this one is for the questing and the story. I really liked the way the quest jumped into some of the 1st and 2nd age history of middle earth. I really like the huntsman and again, the layout of the area and the design are attractive.
Favorite Class and Why?
I haven't played all the classes seriously yet, only hunter, captain, warden, burg, guard and champion.
My favorite so far is the hunter. I love how quickly they can do everything. Porting, run speed, massive DPS that lets me kill things quickly. I also enjoy the fact that it really isn't broken at all. I can do pretty much anything I need to in the game, and I like that the lack of massive heals and such makes it a bit of a challenging class to play rather than a brain snooze like a champion.
Favorite Game mechanic (cosmedic system, LI system.. ect)?
Session plays are fun, and I also enjoy fellowship quests.
Favorite quest chain?
Without too many spoilers for me it was the Dunland Epic/Landscape quests. It was one of the few quest lines that I played just to find out what happens next. It had some nice twists and turns.
Exactly! I've stopped reading all the negative threads.Anything really, just want to start a happy post about the good in the game reading all this other stuff just brings me down!
Thanks to all who post :P

Re: What u Think?
I'm still a big fan of Ered Luin, music is great and probably the 1st day I played this I remember standing by the hunters lodge with snow whispy in the air and thinking, wow, Moria I still think is awesome, haven't seen what they did with it having just been through on 2 characters but have 2 more in the future to do, my friend loved the 1st 4 zones though, said it took him about 3hrs.
Class wise I suppose I have to say hunter as that is my main, despite having some pretty poorly thought out changes and development, to my mind, it's still great to zoom around the world on plinking normals...probably the best actually because the other contenders don't have the ports. If it wasn't hunter, I'd have to say burg, and possibly as a straight out fun factor that's my favorite.
Favorite mechanic, hard to say there. Bar a few minor things it might be the legendary system.Q. What state do you live in?
A. Denial

Re: What u Think?
Favorite Area and Why? Shire. I love all the Hobbit politics and banter. I cannot get enough of doing silly Hobbit quests. I live for that stuff.
Favorite Class and Why? Guard, because every single player and online RPG I've ever played, I've loved the sword and shield. I just click with it.
Favorite Game mechanic (cosmedic system, LI system.. ect)? Cosmetic system because I love fluff.
Favorite quest chain? Getting ten Hobbits to sign a petition to stop the evil Lobelia Sackville-Baggins from running a party during the Yule Festival. I laugh every time I go to this one Hobbit and he says "Give me that paper!" when I tell him the petition is to stop her from being in charge of the party. God, I would make a good Hobbit in RL.
I love this game.Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"
Civ II rules after all these years......

Re: What u Think?
Unfortunately in MMOs as in life in general, ya gotta take the bad with the good. LOTRO is hurting right now due to the major issues introduced with U6 which don't affect just a skill or a class or a particular skirmish/raid, they affect the playability of the game as a whole for many people. But with that said, I agree that pointing out the good things every so often does help to bring those bad issues into perspective somewhat...
Favorite Area and Why?
I've always liked the Lonelands. Its vastness and solemn loneliness is in stark contrast to the more lively and happier atmosphere of Bree and the Shire (and to a lesser degree, Ered Luin which has its own solemnity with the Elves and Dwarves nearing the end of their time in Middle Earth) and sets the stage for the gravity of the situation and circumstances facing not only the Fellowship but Middle Earth as a whole. The music scores enhance and add to this atmosphere beautifully.
More generally, I like the out-of-the-way areas, the hole-in-the-walls, the hidden corners, valleys and ledges scattered throughout Middle Earth. I'm an explorer at heart and I never let the pressure of leveling or finishing a quest or getting that objective done stop me from investigating the other side of that hill, or looking to see what is just around that bend or on the other side of that lake. These are the places where I often find the real gems of the game and occasionally find the hidden nuggets of Middle Earth.
Favorite Class and Why?
Although I like all of the classes for different reasons (yup, an altoholic and proud of it), the Elven Hunter is and always will be my fav. It is the class/race combo I've always begun with since the days of D&D (although I usually went Half-Elf), probably because I myself am a hunter which makes identifying with the character quite easy. No matter if the class is unbalanced, perfect, nerfed, or whatever, it is still one of the most adaptable character classes ever made IMHO.
Favorite Game mechanic (cosmedic system, LI system.. ect)?
Housing would and should be my choice, but in its present state, it's not even a consideration. I'd have to say the cosmetic system is my Fav. It could be a lot more with more slots (I'm maxed out on wardrobe and outfit slots and still not nearly enough space), better organization (such as chests/closets), a horizontally expandable window, and accessibility from within our homes/halls, but it does give us a way to truly customize our characters (and hide those hideous equipped clown-outfit combos
). I spend as much or more time setting up different outfits for my characters as I do actually playing at times.
Now if only I had about twice the number of slots...
Favorite quest chain?
The Epic Quest chain of course. The dev team did an outstanding job with that and it pulls the whole game together.
Instead of the sarcasm, why not post on topic with something you like. You'd be amazed at how nice it feels for a change instead of b*tching about everything that's wrong with the game. Dis Game makes dem producers a lot of money.
seriously, topics like this only distracts them from being focused on fixing the issues.
If you need that mmo or this topic to regulate your emotional balance. You are maybe consumeing the wrong thing.

Re: What u Think?
Actually, my statement, "You'd be amazed at how nice it feels for a change instead of b*tching about everything that's wrong with the game." was generic in nature and not directed specifically at you. It was probably more of a self-incriminating statement since of late, most of my posts have been in the b*tching category - U6 & U7 issues, housing's deplorable state, needed Kinship revamp, lack of hobbies, open exploiting with no repurcussions, et al.
As for the rest of it, yup. The sarcasm wasn't in the least bit constructive, especially as the first reply. You're a vet here Onyx. You know better. Even if your 'good' list is a bit short, then go ahead and say so without making the OP feel like he's out in left field.Last edited by Adder; May 21 2012 at 03:42 AM. Reason: typo

Re: What u Think?
Having hit high school at the peak of Tolkien reading fanaticism, I love this game, unequivocally, so I'm one of those that gets called names by those who need their complaining supported. Not planning to change, though, SO:
My favorite class is all of them, as each has its quirks and adorable failings. (Yes, it's adorable when my hunter cures her poison, then limps wounded and afraid across the field to the next warg) Sub-categorizing, I think the three I'd keep if I had to lose all others would be my captain, my guard, and my minstrel. I love the principle behind those classes, the "here, let me help" sort of approach. Something very appealing to me about the guardian, the idea of being not only able but willing to get in the way and take an awful beating on behalf of, well, anyone, and then shrug it off and go do it a few more times. The minstrel keeps them alive, but in a sort of opposite way.
Which segues nicely into favorite game system, which is easily the music system. I love hopping my mini up on the fountain in the Last Homely House and just playing whatever I've got in the abc list (all carefully selected by a crack international team of one American living in Japan). She gets a little percussion from the cracking leg bones of all the people taking the quick way to the ground floor, and most nights at least one or two stop and listen and applaud, or comment nicely. A nice break from screaming orcs to death...which is not to say I don't enjoy that a lot as well.
Oh, and the LI's. I really love having a named weapon or item that I can keep, or replace, or customize in numerous ways.
Favorite region? I'm liking Dunland a lot, as it has an indescribably "adventurous" feel to it. I have yet to see it all, though. Prior to that, I loved Mirkwood's texture, that dark gloomy feeling with ghosts and spiders and primitive idols and a really, really scary castle to clean out. I had a blast there, and then my Captain was great fun to go through Enedwaith with. On the other hand, I enjoy the starter areas for their simplicity, and a little bit for the nostalgia. All those early areas feel like someplace I lived before moving to a new city.
And finally, my eight characters still have that same tiny little house in Duillond, and its decorations periodically change depending on festivals and crafts and reputation. They don't spend much time there, but I'd be oddly devastated if it vanished in a housing revamp or something.
I could continue, but having written that much I have a strange desire to go run around Eregion with the music turned up all the way. (Favorite region score: Eregion.)

Re: What u Think?
Oh i see. So you directed something at me that you now say wasn't directed at me. You say i am a vet here, which seems to indicate that you know me and who i am, and took the opportunity to take a nice poke at me for nothing. I see, i understand. Happens all the time to me. Doesn't matter what or how i write anything here, people like you and others like you jump right on, you guys cant resist. It's ok. I look at my presence here like community service, as long as you guys keep screwing with me, your leaving someone else alone. I wear the constant neg rep from you and others like you like a bloody badge. it also makes me laugh
Bottom line is, i will post how i like, where i like, so save your little lectures for someone who gives a carp, cause as usual, i'm all out of carps for this week already little man.

Re: What u Think?
Favorite Area and Why?
Instances, because it's instant combat and action with lots of people.
Favorite Class and Why?
Champions, because I love it when they go SHING-SHING, pull too much aggro and die. Also they're great scapegoats to blame when there is a wipe...even when there isn't one in the party.
Favorite Game mechanic (cosmedic system, LI system.. ect)?
Fellowship Maneuvers. Never seen this kind of game mechanic in the other mmo's I've played.
Favorite quest chain?
The one when we take Mazog to Dol Guldur because some hoytie toytie 'I'm so much better than you' elves DIE.
Anything really:
Reading doom and gloom posts on this forum brightens my day. Puts real problems into perspective.

Re: What u Think?
I find everything about the game a nice escape from the drudgery of real life. Sometimes things might not work perfectly but I deal with that every day. Middle earth is my escape, even a few minutes checking mail and chatting with my kinmates or helping someone with a question in general chat.
Excellent choice of your moniker, it seems to fit your outlook.
If you can only find the bad in life and always be negative it will seem that will be all that you find. Stop and enjoy the little things and everything is much easier.
Thank you Turbine for an escape from the daily grind with the beautiful scenery, the music, the people you have gathered to play the game and for continuing to give us many good things to enjoy. This is my favourite MMO and will be until it goes dark far in the future one hopes. Everything in the game has something I find awe inspiring or enjoyable in some way. Thank you OP for starting a happy thread

Re: What u Think?
WOOT HAPPY POST FOR A CHANGE!! Enough to make me come back out and actually speak again!
Favorite Area and Why?
For pure beauty, relaxation when not actually playing, Trollshaws, around Tal Brunien. Spend way too much time there, taking photos... I also love Everswim for the same reasons and spend WAY too much time there with "magic picture capture box" in hand.
Favorite Questing area so far has been Lothlorien, it's also beautiful!
Favorite Class and why?
Can't pick just one, unfortunatly, but can narrow it down to three.
Lore-master - I have loved the challenge of learning all the skills, from going to the "squishy" lowbie, to the confident lightning throwing, pinata stick swinging thang that I am. :P
Warden - Again, a challenge to learn the gambits and have them all memorized. I love a challenge.... not to mention the RED ROCKET!!!
Guardian - Not so much a total thinking and memorization class (I am sure I am gonna get blasted for that one!! HAR HAR), like my other two favs, but who doesn't love being able to jump in and lay down a good, old fashioned SMACK DOWN?
Favorite Game Mechanic
Does crafting count as a game mechanic? I am ADDICTED MUCH!
Questing chain:
EPICS!!!!!!!!!!
In closing, I know there are a lot of issues that Turbine is having, but it's common to have a non perfect "world" anywhere you go to play on the net. The net itself is imperfect, and bugs happen....
Sure I would like to see them address our questions a lot quicker then they do, but after a few years of playing in other places, grids included, Turbine has been the best as far as customer support goes IN MY EXPERIENCE!
RIP Nidor we miss you.
