weapons for healing & weapons for DPS?

I've reached lvl 65 with my Minstrel and have a club of second age to lvl 35 and some nice relics etc I have slotted in a sword which someone made for me but haven't used any relics on it yet. I was thinking is it good to have say the sword for DPS solo work and the club for healing? I suppose I need song books as well.

That would depend entirely on the legacies on each weapon. Obviously you want healing legacies on your healing weapon/book, dps legs on your dps weapon/book. As far as sword vs. club for dps, it doesn't matter much, if at all. Sword +hit only applies to melee auto-attacks, which are a pretty small part of our damage. I personally like swords just because they look cool, but there are some wicked looking maces out there too.

Re: weapons for healing & weapons for DPS?

Short answer -- yes. I have separate weapons for healing and for solo/dps. My healstick has the heal legacies: SOS pulses, triumphant spirit cooldown, rally cooldown, healing threat reduction, and (to me) the very very important anthem duration. My DPS stick has the damage legacies. One other thing I do is the "level" of the item for a healstick is not that imporant (while healing you aren't really doing dps -- so the tactical damage rating is mostly irrelevant). For a DPS stick, that isn't the case and a higher level item is good for the greater dps. So a lower level item (like a 60 first age or a 65 first age or second age) since it has more points to spend on legacies is very helpful for healing. The key is the legacies -- LOTS of majors...

I also use different books for healing and dps/buffing. Here -- the reverse is true: your healing book should be of the highest level and best age you can get (for your +healing rating). Your buffbook/dps book age doesn't really matter that much. I DO swap books mid-stream for buffing. So my buffbook has a fully maxed anthem of war. My heal book, on the other hand, has NONE of those bonuses for anthem of war and instead focuses on the key healing legacies: Healing and motivation, power reduction, bolster courage...

I don't think weapon type (sword, club, mace, etc.) makes much difference for minstrels. While you might, rarely, take advantage of a racial +damage bonus (elves and hobbits) it isn't that much as minstrels aren't THAT often in melee range or doing enough melee damage to make that much of a difference. Whatever weapon looks good for you works.

Yes, I *still* think we need one handed mini axes for dwarves. A dwarf NOT using an axe is wrong.

God yes, minstrel axes please. A dwarf without an axe is just a fat hobbit with a beard.
