    Virtue selection

What are the must have virtues for an OP guard and a tanking guard? i.e. do they change and if so which ones would you choose for each situation?

    AW: Virtue selection

    For tanking you're looking at;

    Valour
    Zeal
    Fidelty
    Tolerance
    Honour

Resistance is fairly useless when tanking, so that may make honour seem like a bad choice. But combined with the tact mit and the vit on it, it isn't all that bad and outranks the other virtues imo.

I never run with OP so I can't help you with that.

Edit: Loyalty is not a bad virtue to use either, the vit gives tact mit and hp and especially the extra hp is usefull when you aren't geared. If you're not sure what gives more tact mit, vit * 4 = tact mit gained from it.

    Hmmm
    Discipline, Determination, tolerance, Loyalty, Fidelity

The focus of these is tact mitigation, agility, and might (to increase hit rate and parry, block, crit, ect)
These work well assuming you already have a good morale pool

I generally use the the same virtues for OP (swap loyalty for fate though)

    Re: Virtue selection

    For tanking I prefer

    Innocence, Zeal, Tolerance, Fidelity, Valour

pretty much the same for OP...I chose always defensive virtues as I get more than enough dps stats from gear..

for solo and leveling you don't need so much tactical mitigation. So you can change tolerance with either discipline or loyalty.

The current end-game raid is Tower of Orthanc, which has a whole lot of tactical damage. Since tactical mitigation is actually pretty tough to cap you'll find your typical "Raider" focusing quite heavily on the tact mit virtues. Those are:

    Fidelity (+567)
    Tolerance (+567)
    Honour (+340)
    Mercy (+340)
    Innocence (+189)
    Compassion (+189)

You don't see much Mercy because the other bonuses on it (OCPR and Agi) aren't particularly good for us. You don't see much Compassion because it's a low bonus and the OCPR isn't very useful - although the Phys Mit is good.

The virtues chart on the wiki is really your best friend when considering what to get. Here's a link: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Virtues

Same in OP in EM as tact mit is the most important stats also there.

    Re: Virtue selection

The three things you want out of your virtues:

    Tactical mits
    Physical mits
    and Resistance.

Everything else are basically not worth getting from virtues (stats, ICPR/ICMR, max power, and people might disagree with me on this but I say max morale as well).

On my RK, I recently re-did my virtues, and put as much into tac mits as I could. The improvement was immediately noticeable - I could take harder-hitting mobs down, and take hits in raid content without getting 1-shotted so frequently. I followed suit on my Guard, and have found that with the more tac mits and resistance you can cram, the easier it is to tank everything. ToO runs, especially when you have to tank multiple Saruman clones, become much easier - you take less damage and resist afflictions, so your healers have an easier job and you don't have to go through as many pots.

Of course, even with nearly-capped tac mits on my RK, Thorog (lv75) still hit me for over 35k morale once. lol...
