yeah, if you got the bag space, just kill everything as you go through the Old forest into Barrows and that should get you close to 500 silver.
That is saying you don't turn in for task and just sell it to Vendor.
kinda found that out by curiosity , I went into the old forest, came out of the old forest going into the Barrows where the lost npcs are, sold my junk to make room, I didn't pay any attention to the amount I made, did some quest that they give from there, then left entering Bree, emptied my bags and was shocked when I looked in my wallet, I didn't even have 400 silver when I went in, but when I left and sold . . I was just shy of getting my first 1 gold. I didn't time the time I was there, but it could had been a hour or maybe 2 hours. Yeah I went back in there , though not to make coin, but to get some easy rep built up
I had the 500 silver for a mount twice before I had the 95TP for the riding skill.
I'm still trying to find out why it cost me an extra 500 silver during the anniversary event for my first character. He had to buy a deed of ownership that my second character didn't need to buy a mount. :?

Long before the game went Free to Play, before Festival Mounts were seperate items.
You had to trade your current Mount for the Ownership Document
It was due to the fact that Mounts were an ITEM in your bags
After some time it was decided to turn Mounts into skills and to let players keep their Mount, and just buy the Document.
It has always cost the same price as the Mount, which originally was 4g 220s.
So now we can have as many mounts as we can afford
Your first mount on each toon will ALWAYS cost full price (500s)
After purchase you get the Mount Purchase Discount for that toon
