My copy arrived very early this morning; I've spent about a couple hours hacking on it; it's INSANELY fun.
If you've seen the video of the idiot troll purporting to give "Five Reasons Why Diablo 3 Will Suck," feel free to load it back up & laugh your head off at that doofus. I'll give him ONE reason why Diablo 2 sucks compared to Diablo 3: because I say it does, & because he's an idiot.
O, right, that's two reasons. Well, never mind, I'm not a math guy Just go get your copy!
Fare you well ... let your life proceed by its own design
Nothing to tell ... let the words be yours, I'm done with mine.
D2 was loads of fun. Man the memories of that epicness. Ten years running and peeople were still playing it like crazy and trading runes. My best memories were D1 though. That game was the best. Battlenet was so cool.
Yawn, the care'o'meter needle twitched for all of 0.6 seconds.

Husband and I played through the Skeleton King last night...tons of mindless mouse clicking and looting fun. We'd been in the beta and they definitely made some big changes before the release.
Excited to play some more because now we're beyond the beta material...
It's not LOTRO - definitely not as sophisticated a game (I could totally play D3 bleary eyed tired!), but a great break from LOTRO time.

Idd and some great ideas behind. Like items not bind on equip & account.

It's awesome that in D3 you can be grouped and the loot that drops is all yours! No more fighting over loot, or people rolling on loot they can't use. That entire negative social dynamic has been solved by D3's system where everyone gets their own private loot!
While i'm very tempted to go get myself a copy of D3, i think i'll wait abit. maybe when the expansion comes out, or at least till things get ironed out abit. why? well, does anyone still remember what happened during patch 1.10 for D2?

I haven't bought it either. I am watching Swifty's vids on it, and perhaps later I may buy it. Like you said, wait until the games kinks get worked out. I cannot recall what happened with 1.10, I did not start D2 until after 1.13, but I assume it broke some mechanic or something and made a certain class unbeatable?
Argh. i just learned that D3 has a level cap of only lvl60. what is this WoW??
this is kinda disappointing;i hope they are not gonna increase the level cap in tens per expansion like MMOs =/
bring back lvl 99 Blizzard!
Anyway, now i'm definitly waiting before i buy =(
Ah, D3, the latest in a long line of on-line games whose launch was blighted by widespread problems for people trying to connect because the developer failed totally to plan accordingly and deploy sufficient resources to cope.
I guess I've been really lucky - got on the night it launched and played for a couple hours (around 7pm to 10pm pst). I know the servers went down for a few hours after that though...
Last night - got on no problem and played for 2 hours. A couple small hitches while playing, but that's it.
I'll be back to LOTRO as my main game again soon...D3 is fun and all, but it's just a click/kill/loot fest. It'll be a fun diversion though!
i do wish the powers that be would consider setting up an authenticator system for LOTRO...
basically the goal for diablo and the thing that makes it fun is finding new, powerful gear. then getting to level cap and pvping. i remember endlessly grinding Baal in hell mode in D2 and hoping beyond hope some amazing gear would drop. I actually got a Zod in the first month of play. Some players played for 10 years and never found one
i haven't bought d3 and am unsure when and if i will
currently my budget does not alllow for it.
if i had lots of extra money i would but it right away though. it's free to play so no worry about having to shell out a sub fee
D3 is yet another blatant step towards total loss of rights to programs you OWN, bought for your OWN precious money and installed on your OWN effin´hardware!
If you want to follow the herd go pay Blizzard, if not then wait for Torchlight 2 and buy that.
Personally I´m over Diablo. Played 1 & 2 long enough. This V3 is just more of the same, only dumbed down. Ah, I mean streamlined.
If I have to have a permanent online connection then I´d rather buy Guild Wars 2, where I get actual gameplay for the inconvenience.

i dont understand? you own the game and can play it as much as you want! what are you saying?
I just caved in and took the bus to the nearest mega shopping mall, to buy Diablo 3. And the game is sold out in every store! I should have called around in advance. I really didn't think this could happen. SWTOR never sold out like this in my area. All the stores said come back Monday or Tuesday

Unless you really want that box, you could buy it off battle.net direct from Blizzard.

Well, now you don't have to worry. If you couldn't be bothered doing that grinding, just plonk down your wallet and buy it in the Real Money Auction House.

Your internet connection drops out, you can't play. Blizzards servers go down for whatever reason, you can't play. You want to play it on a laptop on a bus/train/plane without an internet connection, you can't play.

Haha, no way. I could never do this. I just wear what i craft or am lucky enough to find! But, this would not stop me from posting something juicy for mad prof$t

I see. That's true. But i think they are going off the premise that this new Diablo is multiplayer. And that most everyone now has access to the internet.
From what i saw i conclude that D3 is primitive, bugged, grindy and absolutely pay2win MORPG. You can buy in-game gold with real money and then buy on AH absolutely ANYTHING, any epic item. It's legal goldselling and purest pay2win i ever see. And Blizs intend to do D3 PvP game! Epic fail Blizzard.
hmm, is there any reason not to? like any reason to need the box?
Nah, boxes just take up space anyway. There's a collector's edition, but anything other than the game is a waste of money imho.
As for the AH, it's not like it's a competition to get the best gear. I honestly don't see why someone would go and spend money on in-game items. Then again, Turbine makes quite a bit of money doing so as well. Pay to win? So you can grind through the same *no idea how many acts there are* acts for the 100th time? I mean, it's a fun game for sure, but like D2, it gets old after a few runs.

Someone on JSP (yeah, had an account since 2003 with a massive 400 posts) said Blizzard had fixed a lot of bugs in just one day.
Great! But
This made me think back on the D2 play-testing. The way these people make stand in line for beta tests goes like this, roughly: you've been a contributing member of the community (read 'any spammer of whatever made people like you, i e lolcats and stuff from fb, msn, icq') and so you get beta access. This ensures that no actual quality testing occurs.
Ten years or so since the first D3 teaser and still it launched with mass bugs. It seems rather pitiful.
It's only Play to Win if you chose to play it that way. I have no intention of taking part in the auction house mechanics. I either craft it or find it. I run with friends and we're constantly swapping dropped items with one another. You can absolutely get through the game without buying a thing via auction house.
Isn't LOTRO the same way? You don't need to buy anything and can still get to level cap. You can avoid the store and auction house completely if you wish. I don't think you can blame gaming companies for trying to make a profit - they are a business afterall. Kind of their MO to find ways to bring in more cash.
The Diablo franchise has been around long enough that we all know what kind of game it is - I don't think anyone could have expected it to deviate a whole lot from what it's been since it has historically been wildly successful.
I think it's fun. Pure and simple. Easy mechanics. Fun graphics (watch those bodies fly!) and a nice deviation from LOTRO....definitely makes me appreciate the sophistication of a game like LOTRO a lot more. But if I want to really go to town and destroy some bad guys - D3 fits the bill perfectly.
I guess i'll have to pass this game. I don't like paying 60 euros to rent a game. If Blizzard decides to shut down the servers, you won't be able to play it (at least not legally). I don't see why i have be connected to the Internet just to play a single player hack and slash game. If you happen to not have an active connection, you are out of luck.
For that you just may play Path of Exile. It's the same and it's F2P.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I was at the shop yesterday and there were 4 copies of Diablo 3 on the shelf.
I looked over the box for about 15 minutes picking it off and putting it back on the shelf and although it does look cool I just couldn't commit for $59.99 +tax.
I even have been watching all of the videos and reading the reviews and the forums about the game.

Another game you might consider is Torchlight 2, when that comes out.

Four, actually. The first is set in the area around the benighted town of Tristram, the second in the desert (though on the other side of the Twin Seas from Lut Gholien), I believe the third is set in what used to be the barbarian homeland and is now...a mess...and the fourth...
Well, I won't spoil that for anyone.
