Thread: Official Answers Needed: re Scroll of Combination and relic forging critical success

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

Please, we need accurate official answers about what critical success does when forging relics, and therefore what we get from a Scroll of Combination, worth a hefty 795TP on the store, that boosts relic forging to 25% critical success chance. If these scrolls do what they should, they are well worth buying in some circumstances. I am asking for clarification on behalf of my kin, and presumably many others who might buy these IF we can be sure of what they will do for us.

Questions:

1. Currently : What does critical success accomplish / produce when forging relics?

2. Did the results of critical success change with RoI and then change again recently?

Background : I remember pre RoI, forging a huge pile of relics all at once (I saved up). I got mostly one relic output per combine, but sometimes got several relics, and I assume these were critical successes. I was happy. I saved up relics again, bought a Scroll of Combination, and did it all again, but this was now post RoI, after shards had come into existence. I used the scroll, but NEVER had a single time when multiple relics were output. About 25% of the time I got extra shards, which was nice, but very different from before. This behavior continued for months. I would sometimes get extra shards, but never extra relics. Recently, I noticed what seems to be a change back to producing multiple relics when I get what I assume is a critical success.

"Scroll of Combination
Get additional relics during relic combination with the Scroll of Combination! Increases your 'Critical Success' chance to 25% while combining relics at the relic forge. Works when forging relics of tiers 2 through 6. Lasts for 15 minutes."

This is the most up-to-date official statement that indicates what happens when you get a critical success when forging relics. But being from Update 3, it is obviously quite old. It claims you get extra relics. I can find no mention of any change to this behavior in any subsequent release notes or other forum posts.

Final Question:

3. Which tiers of relic forging and/or combination are boosted by a Scroll of Combination?

Background : In the past there was much obvious confusion about which tiers of relic forging these scrolls apply to. The store used "while forging tier 2-6" but the in-game tool tips said "when combining tier 1-5". This has been freshly updated with Update 7 and both store and tool-tips use the same words:

Store and tool-tip now both say : Works when forging relics of tiers 2 through 7

I presume this works as follows: you combine tier 1 relics in order to forge tier 2 relics.

Based on this wording, I must assume that if I have a large pile of tier 1 relics, when I combine them to forge a bunch of tier 2 relics, I will enjoy the 25% critical rate when using a Scroll of Combination. As of Update 7, this will apply through all tiers up to combining tier 6 relics to forge tier 7 relics, but NOT when combining tier 7 relics to forge tier 8 relics.

The scrolls do exactly the same as the craft lore scrolls in game

All they do is improve the chance of getting a critical success

When combining relics from 1 tier to make another, there is a chance of getting a crit (getting 4 - 6 new relics instead of 1 or 2)

Is that what a crit does? Are you 100% sure? The last time I spent 795TP on a Scroll of combination, I never once got more than one relic, and only got shards as the crit bonus. I started with hundreds of T1 relics and combined up to T5 or T6. I was very disappointed, since I already get more shards than I need by refining crafted relics. And the behavior clearly seemed to change with updates, but there has never been any explanation. And now they have updated at least the description, probably the max tier these scrolls apply on, but again no official word.

If you are willing to play guinea-pig with an $8 scroll and a big pile of relics, then please do share your results now that Update 7 is here and the scrolls have been updated somehow. Maybe we will spot a clear pattern. We need an official answer about what happens. It's the least Turbine can do if they expect us to buy those things.

If you are just combining from 1 tier to create another tier ( 5x tier 1 to make 1x tier 2) then a crit success will do 1 of 2 things

1: you get more Tier 2's maybe even a tier 3
2: give you more shards than normal for that tier

If you are creating a specific relic (Westfold Rune of xxxx) and you use the scroll of combination then you will get the relic plus shards, you may even be lucky enough to get 2x or more relics

the 25% scroll does not guarantee a crit, it just gives a boost to the chance of a crit on that item

each craft/relic forge is based on the roll of a die.

eg
Normal chance, the die has 8 sides. 1 side says crit, 7 say normal
with the scroll the same die will have 2 sides say Crit and 6 say normal

This happens for each item you do.
If you can make/forge 6 items it does not roll once for all 6
it will roll for each of the 6 you can make
