I was in fact not questioning Ingolemo's extraordinary bardic prowess Sir.
for what it's worth, I assumed you were just joking. My response to yours was just by way of offering support to a fine member of our community who was unfairly assaulted by the powers that be recently. And yes I know they backed off on that original action. Still I have no doubt it caused great stress until it was worked out.
While I am glad the warning got revoked I also can on the other hand understand the person reporting it.
I was playing at the same time in LL and would have appreciated to have less text flowing by in /regional to be able to find people to group with etc. and only knowing that there was the event and being a good sport about it kept me from reporting it.
I do not see where it would be an problem to make an event channel for the event and advertise it every few minutes in /regional etc.
I have honestly never ever met an person that did not know how to join an channel.
This would have made the issue a non-issue. A User-Chat channel created for the event, for those attending the event, rather than using /regional in violation of the TOS. That's what User-Chat channels are for.
While Ingolemo, was the unfortunate "target" of the Filed ticket, he was simply doing as instructed by the Organizers.
Next year, use a User-Chat channel for the event...or....use /say channel for singing, as we find it's much more "Immersive" to be able to watch the band as they play, and see their "singing" above their heads, then to have to focus on the chat window for lyrics, or better yet, to keep it local and still fully reach the audience at the far reaches of the crowd, use /shout (But then you have folks watching a chatbox rather than "the performance").
Yes, there is a /say bug, but it is easily squashed, without having to logoff, drop to character screen, etc., simply by walking past the speaker within 2-3 meters, then back to your seat. *POOF*...bug gone...never had it not clear for someone at our weekly concerts using this method, when they've been stricken with the /say bug.
2 easy options that do not violate the TOS, and will prevent future reports....live and learn. There is simply no need to violate the TOS or ask for "Special Permission" to violate the TOS for ANY event (A slippery slope, better left untrodden).
Congratulations to LMB for another year of Weatherstock, and Congratulations to those who chose to participate this year and congratulations to the winners this year, as well.
let me first start by saying that I have been around since day 1 of lotro...however this year was my first time attending Weatherstock. It was epic...great job by all who made such a cool event possible.
while i fully understand that a couple people might have been put off by hearing the party in regional chat...i cant help but think about regional chat and how it is used every other day of the year. Most times i have to play with regional turned off, as it is typically filled with nonsense. So if I and everyone else can overlook it or turn it off due to not wanting to hear two idiots argue about what stat is best or who is godmoding...then the couple complainers should be able to do the same for the couple hours a year that the server is using it for a good thing.
My only problem with setting up a user chat for the event...is that I LIKE the idea of the region being able to hear the party. they should...as to me, i see it as the community getting together and rocking weathertop so loud that the whole region cant help but hear it. It was also the reason that a couple people (that i talked to ) came in the first place. they heard the party and decided to check out what all the noise was about.
anyway...its seems crazy to me that a huge part of the sever community would need to find a work around for this event. IF turbine wants to police the chat channels and enforce strict guidelines...then, ok. but then i expect not to have to hear all the garbage that i do (some not even game related) on every other channel, on every other day.
just my thoughts, anyway.
again, thanks to all that put on such a cool event. I and everyone I play with had a blast.
I think next year at Weatherstock someone told me they planned to use the /RP chat channel. I think this is a good idea. No one uses the channel and it would be easy to ask everyone to check it so they can "hear" since it is one of the only Turbine chat channels that is not on by default.
All "singers" at Weatherstock were asked to use the /regional channel as well as the /say channel which required organization prior to the event but worked out well so that those who had chat bubbles enabled did see the lyrics.
well all i can ever think of to say is...
-weatherstock forever!
*shuffles her self back to her own server again*
Treebeard: You must understand, young Hobbit, it takes a long time to say anything in Old Entish. And we never say anything unless it is worth taking a long time to say.
At the end of the day, they were inconvenienced in a very minor way in one specific region of the world, while playing a video game, for a few hours out of a 365-day year. The servers are completely turned off far longer than that in the space of a year. The fellow in question could have gone to a different region where the chat channel didn't bother him, or even turned the game off and gone outside to play in the yard.
Yeah, except that rationale flies directly in the face of the game's own Code of Conduct..
1. While participating in the Game or on the Game Website you must respect the rights of others to play and enjoy the Game world as intended by Turbine.
Some complained of trolls at the event, standing on top of their character and using forced emotes. The troll/s could use your exact same theory to justify their behavior as well. I'm sure those in the bands wouldn't have taken "eh, you were inconvenienced in a minor way guys, why don't you log off and go outside!" very well from those who did things they didn't like.
In the end I'm glad the user's warning was lifted after redpoisonapple sent me a PM with more information on the matter. I'm not trying to pick sides or make anyone angry, just figured I'd add my first reaction about the reporter's behavior to the discussion as what else are forums for but communication?
Definitely looking forward to next year's event, and hopefully by then I'll have a computer and connection that'll be able to weather the storm better so I can spend more time there.

To my knowledge the solution Laurefinde described will be indeed the solution for the regional channel issues. This maybe will not cover everything because some people may complain even about that - troll's gonna troll regardless of reason. The contact with Turbine staff about this has been very constructive and we will come up with a good and safe solution for our bands on how to use channels. I think we can lay this discussion to rest now.
