Thread: U7 Free Goat

Where exactly do we get this from, I've recently been playing Moria on my first character, now it's been revamped I heard that this free Goat is tied to the 'To the Dolven-View' quest....I however had done it only a few days before the revamp (and we obviously cannot do the quest again)

Is there another way to get this goat free ?

Have you checked your mounts tab on the off chance that the goat was bestowed retrospectively? You could also check the faction vendor of the Iron Garrison Miners. Maybe they changed the tame goat's price there to something really low. Other than that I don't have any ideas for you.

For those who done quest, goat is buyable at vendor in dolven view

Take the stable goat from Dolven-view to Durin's Threshhold. Quite soon after leaving DV, you come across a quest-giver who will give you a quest to go and talk to Slagvi in DV who has a huge stable full of goats to give away to deserving travellers.

No need to buy it.

I still have not found the guy bestowing the quest, at 75 and getting a bit annoyed as it seems I have to pay 5 gold for a goat others get for free????

Simply not ok.

He really isn't hard to find.

His name is Thorhall, and he is at 7.5S, 113.4W, wqhich is the firrst min- quest hub on the way from Dolven View to Durin's Threshhold.

Easiest way to find him is to take the stable ride and jump off as you go past.

Simply not ok.

If you've already done the quest (To the Dolven-view, check your completed quest log) your quest log will SAY you have the goat, but you don't actually get it. Only thing you can do is /bug it. I have on my toon that's just got into Moria and doesn't have the reward!

It's a new quest, so everyone can get the tame goat.

No it isn't. It's an old quest that has had the goat added to it. I can see it in my completed quest log, with the tame goat as a reward, but I have no goat.

I was in contact with GM Magnolia.

The goat is not bestowed to those who have completed the quest prior to update 7, also there is no repeat doing of the quest to get the goat. Nor will in-game support bestow the goat to people writing a ticket.

The only way to get the goat for players who have previously completed the quest To the Dolven View is by purchasing it for a price of 5 Gold 200 Silver at the Rep vendor.

Personally I think it is a bad bad move on Turbine's part, as I am one of the many people who collect mounts.

I won't be getting this goat, because I simply refuse to spend gold in game on an item others get for free.
We are not talking about some item people paid for in the store, nor an item they get because they pre-ordered something, we are talking an in-game item that is now provided for free to any character completing a quest.

I can just see this going to happen to more things now:

Update 8 : Free Bree Horse to those completing the Volume 1 Intro.
Update 9 : Free Eglain Horse to those completing Enemies of the Eglain

You get the gist.... in essence those who have played a long time will see all they worked for being handed out for free, because Turbine has decided this is how you attract new customers.

I paid 5g for this goat months ago, and I don't really care that it's given out free to new folk coming through Moria. If I hadn't bought it, I wouldn't mind about dropping the 5g now, if I cared about having it so much. All they are is ways to get around, generally. There's enough ways to get mounts now that people coming through the ranks now getting horses/goats as quest rewards doesn't really make that much difference.

It's not such a bad move, really. If it were a 250hp +68% speed goat I would be a bit annoyed, but it's not, and the 'loss' to me is 5g200s. If you loot corpses, that will fall into your wallet very easy at 75.

I'm also a bit confused as to why you didn't already have this goat, if your prediliction for mount collection is as keen as you say it is?

Interesting how different GMs respond! When I initially put in a ticket on the day of the update, I was told to /bug it instead so that the QA team could deal with this. I was also told that was all the GM could do for me. This was because GMs at the time didn't have it listed as a 'known issue' that they were able to deal with. So the end result is basically the same - GM won't give you a goat even if your completed quest log says you should have one. But a lack of help for different reasons.

I was however led to believe that putting a bug ticket in would mean the issue would be considered and might be fixed. Like the issues around non-completion of the deed Tracking an Old Goat were fixed eventually.

In the meantime I'm disappointed and cynical at just how bugged this latest (very small) update is. All I can hope is that this particular issue this will eventually be dealt with in a way that's fair to players who've already completed Moria or who'd already started Moria before the recent update. Frankly, it's ludicrous not to be given a quest reward that your quest log says you already have...

This is true for almost all MMO's. New players always have it easier than the old players did "back in the day". It's just something you have to accept and move on.

The reason the goat was free to some ppl and not other's is because things where taken away from our account when the the game went free 2 play...This was there way of paying us back.
