[EVENT] Onnad Lyth - Birth of Flowers Elven RP Festival

The chill winds of winter past are leaving. Darkened skies of early spring are lessening. Heavy showers ease to tenderly cleanse all upon the land. Tree and plant clothe themselves in deep greenery and colours bright. Let us all adorn ourselves in garments fine and celebrate the maturity of spring and the promise of summer fair!

    ________________

At this time each year, the folk of Falathlorn extend an invitation for Elves to come gather in Duillond, to make preparation and to celebrate the Birth of Flowers festival.

The passage from Spring to Summer is marked by the sprouting forth of a profusion of flowers across the landscape, and the land is awash with their colour and fragrance. Onnad Lyth in Sindarin, also known to the Elves of Gondolin as Nost-na-Lothion, the Birth of Flowers is a celebration of the burgeoning fertility of the landscape, a visible promise of the fruits and harvest to come later in the year!

Elves are invited to come and participate in this celebratory gathering - both the procession itself and the all-important preparations. So come! Flock to Duillond and lend your time, skill and talents to ensuring all is made ready as best it can be; a party is only as good as the effort in its preparation!

Delegates of any Elven kinships (or keen individuals) wishing to perform or contribute their own celebratory rituals to the procession are asked to make themselves known to Galvathalion, a master of lore who is leading the arrangement of the procession.

Note that Galvathalion is merely acting as an organisational director: this is a social festival owned by the entire Elven community, so if any have a strong urge to add their own short speech, or ritual, then he will only be too happy to discuss your wishes, and how they may be implemented into the celebration.*

*Time swiftly passes during such events, so if you have some speech, poem or ritual you wish to add to the ceremony, try and keep it short and concise. We estimate having up to half an hour available for any interested parties. Speak to Galv, who will assess how best to integrate your ideas. Please contact him on or before Sunday night!!! Arriving with a hastily-penned address to the blossoms of Falathlorn as we depart on Monday eve is too late!

    ________________

The event will come in 2 halves: Preparation and Procession (and party!)

    Sunday 20th May - Preparation

RPers are welcome to turn up in Duillond from 6pm BST (7pm CET) onwards. There, you will find organisers in need of assistance - the more hands the better! There will be much needing done: festival robes need final stitchwork; flower wreaths need woven; food and wine must be sought, gathered and cooked; dance moves may be practised, and footwork honed for the following night!

At the end of the eve, festival robes can be supplied (cosmetically) to those wishing to join the following evening's procession.

Monday 21st May - Procession and Party!

Those wishing to join in the procession should gather in Duillond at 8pm BST (9pm CET). Naturally, you can turn up earlier to engage in pre-festival RP as you wish!

The procession will lead to a ceremonial location along the road, thence on to Celondim, ultimately to the circle on the hill south of the dock - where dancing and merriment will conclude the festivity!

While this is an Elven event, all those who take delight in growing things may enjoy letting their hair down at such a celebration - so...*glances at all those Hobbit players*...why not get immortal, and roll a lowbie Elf for the event? Go on! Come raise a glass of wine and share a jig with us! ;D

Hmmm - can a hobbit come as a hobbit? Amorey and Primmrose, for example, are quite well known in Rivendell, where they have entertained their elven friend with music and song in the Hall of Fire. And the Eldariant Alliance includes elven and hobbit kins. So must hobbits really roll up an elf character just to attend this event?

What Primmy said ! Oh Lord Curugirion, Amorey and Primmy are really tiny Elves *nods sagely* we both know how to behave and how to speak in the presence of Elves, I can see what you say about 'making an elf' , but I would feel almost like I am not true to myself. Primmy and I would not disturb, really and we do take very little space..ooh and we love flowers so much. I really would love to come, Lord Curugirion, I am sure it will be a wonderful event ...I just hope I can come as 'me' but if that is not possible, I will understand , of course

Re: Onnad Lyth - Birth of Flowers RP Festival Event

While this is a lore-centric elven event I am sure that no-one known as an elf friend would be turned away at the borders and would be made most welcome should they wish to attend! However we do understand that others may wish to preserve their reputations and good standing in the shire and keep away from such things that are none of their business...so to speak. Off gallivanting with the elves?! Outrageous! (This sort of attitude would no doubt not matter one whit to those already associated with us, heh heh).

So we were just suggesting that particular option for those hobbit players of a more conservative bent, so feel free to came as "you".

While we are at it, I'm sure any Dwarven traders who are in the area will be very interested in sampling the drink in the post-ceremony party area!

This sounds like fun. I shall try to come on Monday. I'll be hosting my own Nost na Lothion (Birth of Flowers) celebration on Landroval on Sunday. I've hosted the holiday there for the past two years. I look forward to enjoying my first one on Laurelin as well!

Re: Onnad Lyth - Birth of Flowers RP Festival Event

    Suilad, mellyn!

As the preparation eve is drawing very close by now, Galvathalion has been walking around Duillond and Celondim to see what preparations that need to be made, and has now put together a list of the many things that will need to be carried out for a sucessfull festival to be expected!

    Flowers to be collected
The festival will need many kind of flowers to be collected and made into decorations. Flowering branches from the blooming cherry trees as well as many-coloured flowers from the hills surrounding Duillond are to be used.
Important to remember is that those dedicated to this task do not rake every single flower from the trees, nor turn the hills into a barren patch of grass, but select their harvest carefully, and take their time to perform their work in a way that spares the beauty of nature and only pick one in every six flowers and collects perhaps every twelfth branch from the trees they prune.

    Game meat to be hunted
The stock of game meat is worringly low. To give the cooks time to prepare it, hunters needs to be dispatched for a hunt around the forests near Duillond. Many boars have been spotted this season, so this will be a suitable choice for game to hunt.
Care needs to be taken, though, so that the balance is still upheld, thus no sow with piglets are to be killed, but preferably adult males.

Wine to be delivered to Celondim
To avoid any disapointment of the guests I have inspected our supplies of wine, and found them to be low. I have already sent a letter to the local wineyard to ask for more, and recieved an answer that they will have some barrels prepared for the morrow. These need to be retrieved and transported to Celondim. Hiril Lhethril has already voulenteered, but she will be in need of strong hands to help with the loading and unloading.

    Festival Gowns to be sown
The soft, white fabric has already been delivered by the weavers of Celondim, and we have stocked up on dyes and white and golden threads. Now, we need it to be made into beautiful garments for the participants to wear during the festival ceremony.

    Flower decorations to be made
When the flowers have been collected, they need to be turned into beautiful decorations: wreaths to be carried upon the heads! Garlands to be worn around the neck and others to decorate Celondim!

    Dance practice
Some musicians will be adding music to the proceedings, allowing folk to practise their dancesteps - and sample some wine!

As previously mentioned, the event will begin on 6pm BST (7pm CET).

Re: Onnad Lyth - Birth of Flowers RP Festival Event

Looking forward to the festivities, Galv!

If I may add something? Please keep in mind this is an RP event, not a grindfest! So take your time everyone! Enjoy ambling about picking flowers and chatting; stalk the boars of Falathlorn with patient care, until you select a prize specimen to grace the feasting table! Don't rush the stitchwork: unless you are a supreme seamstress who enjoys showing off, you'll end up having to pick out your flawed handiwork to start anew!

This event has been arranged for the enjoyment of the whole community and, being set in a low level area, we positively encourage new players to come along and experience a little of the fun that RP can offer! There will be plenty of seasoned RPers on hand, who are only too happy to answer any questions you might have about emoting and other Role Playing issues. Don't be nervous - and no: speaking Sindarin is not required!

So come along and don't be shy! Simply present yourself to any of those who seem busy with the work, and they will suggest how you can help out!

Re: Onnad Lyth - Birth of Flowers RP Festival Event

A great start to the festival! Well done to all who came along and gave of their time in helping prepare for the ceremonial procession - the post-activity drinks and dancing were a welcome end to the night! Lol, of course, some slackers (you know who you are!) found a way to stay permanently encamped with samples of wine in the Circle of Song!

One thing I am burning with curiosity to hear tell of is this business about an errant barrel of wine finding its way downriver?!! XD

It was a lovely night - and our guests from the Shire were utterly charming!

Grand procession and finale tonight (Monday 21st)! Those wishing to join in the procession (and you didn't have to be there for the preparation to participate!) should gather in Duillond for final donning of robes and arrangement of floral circlets by 8pm BST (9pm CET)! The procession will lead off shortly thereafter.

It promises to be a memorable evening, so come and join in the spectacle, accompanied by a soundtrack provided by musicians of well-known stature (The Shades)!

Whoohooo great fun already, thanks for organizing this! What a fun night it was. Lhethril was sent to collect the wine, and made some friends along the way! The adventure with the runaway barrel of wine, maybe some day will become a legend all its own

    Looking forward to tonight!

    *waves and smiles*

It was the most enchanted evening, I and other hobbit friends , we was sent to pick flowers in the beautiful elven garden, and I hope we did a good job. Many lovely buds were harvested, and it was amazing when some of the elves did pick us up to reach the flowers that were too high up for us to reach. I found the most loveliest white flower, Lord Galvathalion was rather impressed with it. The fragrance of the flowers in the gardens was so nice, made us feel all happy and at peace, Lady Isilmewen was so kind, and the other elves too. I had a wonderful time, though I was very tired from the long ride from Bree. Looking forward to be there tonight again, though and see my lovely elves and white flower again.

awww. How beautiful pictures Nimlith, Isilmewen and Amorey. You truly cathed the atmosphere
I agree with the rest that has been said. It was absolutely lovely..!!

Is so inspiring to see a lovely event like this, but also how many of the participants that immersed and was a part of making the evening magical.

We truly enjoyed to play our music (I had a silly powercut though, but manage to see nearly everything anyway)
We was happy to be invited .

(it does not help me to play my elven characters less these days.. hehe...)

Well done Loth I Lonnath and congratulation.

    Aw! Such kind words!*squirms*

On behalf of the Loth-i-Lonnath, I humbly wish to thank YOU!

In truth, you're all too kind with your generous praise! For without all of your participation in 'writing' the chapters we titled, there would be no tale to recount, no memories to recall with fondness; no Lay of the Restless One and its downfall to the voice of a little one - and no Legend of the Wayward Barrel (which some of us are still eager to hear tell!). So go on: give yourselves a huge round of applause!

A special hug goes to Achy and the other Shades musicians: thanks for adding an extra special ambience to the evening - despite electrical interference!

We too look forward to the next event...
