I was just diagnosed with OCOKD...

    No, that's not a disease.

OCOKD stands for Obsessive Collecting of Knives Disorder. I self diagnosed.

I've always been fascinated with knives, and once I got a job I couldn't seem to stop collecting them... So far I have a bunch of Cold Steel knives, two machetes, and two Khukuris.

My CS knives are a pair of Urban Pals, a Ti-lite, a Spartan, a Pendleton Lite, an Outdoorsman Lite, and a Leatherneck-SF. I'm currently looking at their SK-5 Trailmaster, but I may decide I don't need it after I play with the Khukuris a bit more...

Anyone else share my sickness? haha.

Re: I was just diagnosed with OCOKD...

Sorry pal, I don't share it personally but I've known a few guys in the army that kinda had a knife for each occasion.

I did get myself one folding knife with a nice eagle on the blade, so I'll never actually use it for anything, wouldn't want to ruin it.

    That trailmaster sure looks slick.

Do you have them on a display?

My brother, though only 18, has over 50 different swords, knives, and general blades. Everything ranging from a simple dagger, to a kukri, even a medieval style claymore(a well crafted replica), and a confederate saber. Quite the collector. He always carries a combat knife wherever he goes.

He has started a firearms collection now....

Nope, too hard to use them when they're on a wall or in a case I try to guide myself towards only buying useful stuff. I draw the line at buying useless stuff - anything that's just ridiculous, like a tomahawk/claymore/etc. or copies of stuff I already have (the one exception being my Urban Pals, since I plan on storing one in my car and another at my desk.)

That's the more dangerous collection, especially to a wallet. You can get 5-10 knives for the price of a single decent gun O.o

Oh I totally understand - but what do you actually use a knife for? Like hunting, camping, fishing etc? I dare say more than three different kind of knives you don't really need unless you do all of these things.

Shame to hide a nice knife in the desk!

I might have a set of Ginsu knives in the attic. I don't know if they come with the free cap snaffler. Interested?

Re: I was just diagnosed with OCOKD...

Funny, I was just researching traditional Filipino weapons so I can find an interesting name for a character I'm making for another game. I came across http://traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/Sandata.html and I think you'll find the site interesting.

My father has a couple of the knives shown in the site:

    Balisong1 by sPsP49, on Flickr
Balisong. The handle flips up to serve as sheath to the blade. I think it's called a butterfly knife in English.

    http://youtu.be/DnoULqG9W5g
Flipping them open and close is a trick the guys here seem to really love doing. Villains in local movies do it a lot. :P

    Punyal by sPsP49, on Flickr
    Punyal

    ItakTagalog by sPsP49, on Flickr
Itak. He uses this to chop wayward plants in the yard.

Apparently, they sell knives and swords from that site. Of course, they're much cheaper if you get them here, but with shipping & handling plus the hassle of going through customs with weapons, I think the prices are more than reasonable. :3

I just found a youtube channel that has a lot of instructional videos on Balisong tricks.

I work in a rather large bookstore, and I basically sit at a desk opening up a box of books every 5-10 minutes and sorting through it to see what we can sell. Opening hundreds of boxes each week gets tedious without a knife...

I also enjoy hiking and camping, and there's plenty of uses for a knife out in the "wild".

Then there's my EDC (every day carry) knives that I switch out here and there, basically my utility knife and my personal defense knife.

Some of my friends have more useless knives than me, and they aren't even collecting knives. One gal has a tube of lipstick with a knife hidden inside.

I can see it clearly now ... you opening the boxes, light reflecting in the blade, a grin on your face - and the red head skinny guy, sweating, hands shaking as he slides another box under the bars towards you ...

I also enjoy hiking and camping, and there's plenty of uses for a knife out in the "wild".
Absolutely, especially if you are not doing it with the satellite-radio-50"plasma-screen-mega-recreational-vehicle.

    Swiss Army Knife.

Underline your seriousness with appropriate comments - like "Screw this" and select the corkscrew in case of defensive maneuvers.

Some of my friends have more useless knives than me, and they aren't even collecting knives. One gal has a tube of lipstick with a knife hidden inside.
Find out who did the marketing for this product - they are good

All of this made me look up Crocodile Dundee again - "That's not a knife."

I don't share the disorder, but on my server there are many who are sharing something similar, they make the game annoying with their pedantry, they Nazi any chat channel, and they drive me myself a very good driver spare. Pedantry, the sport of dinks. For gods sake get over yourself and just fly Quantus, end the mystery.

Incidentally I make very good knives, as well as being a very good driver.

One year my parents decided we were going to stay in a cabin on a camp site. I brought my tent and slept in the yard

I've never liked swiss army knives, for some reason... I have been thinking of buying a Leatherman and a Case knife as my EDC set, just so I don't look so odd when people see my hunting knife on my belt

Hahaha. That's actually what came to mind when I first received a kukri... You haven't held a knife until you've held a kukri. They are massive O.o

One of my friend forges knives from scratch. I mean, he smelts the iron, carbonizes it, hammers it into blanks, forges it out, grinds it, heat treats it and does tha handle and polish etc...

I'm forged only two so far. Still working on one.

I have a ton of Cold Steel stuff. The Walkabout, the waxwood staff (which I cut into two 2 1/2 footers), the black double edged machette. I also have some real Gurkha Khukuris.

    I knew we were friends!
