Thread: Shanehere's Official Statement

I must reschedule due to the fact that the trip to Regent is a two day journey. I must leave the Monday after the event in order to get settled in time.

It is with great joy and sadness that I announce to you today. As of August 11, 2012 at Midnight, First Marshal Shanehere will stop playing LOTRO.

Why:
It has been on my mind for some time now to leave LOTRO to transition to my new life at Regent University. My addictive personality will hinder my education. A new life requires big change. I will seek my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema-Television and maybe my MFA in Directing, but that’s a ways off (thinking about professorship). Though it would be a dream to go to Hollywood and make epic films for Christ, but this is what has been my true desire for my life; to start a family and settle down with a good paying job.

For my future to become, I must devote all my attention away from the fantasy life and the somewhat superficialality of video games. Do not get me wrong I am close with several players and very happy to be friends with them (I have even met some of you), but I can embrace what real life friendship can offer; their presence. Simply being there and not a pixel representation of you makes a big difference.

Believe it or not, I am actually an introvert. I love being around people, but it wears me out and I must take a nap/rest afterwards. I only have a few close friends. I prefer to be with my close friends than the crowd.

Why not quit after rank 15 instead?
I don’t have time to get there before I move in to Regent. Besides it’s a title that is not worth getting.

Appreciation: Thank you to all my friends who have been there in the hard times of the moors and its great and glorious times. Let me prove how concrete this is. There is no coming back. I keep my yes’s yes, and my no’s no. My commitments are always loyal and strong. I’ve always committed to the freepside as a show of evidence. So many people have tried to convince of going creep. Nope.
Also, Who I am hasn’t degraded, only improved.

One Last Raid
7:00 pm-10:00pm CST will be Saturday August 11, 2012, the last raid ever to be led by First Marshal Shanehere. All are welcome. RSVP to me via in game mail and I’ll put you on the list. First Come First Serve. Let’s crash the server! I will be playing The Epic DJ with the best three hours of adrenaline rushing music in Freep Vent.

The Departing Party
There will be a departing party on the same night from 10:00pm – 12:00 CST for one last goodbye. Bring fireworks! This is where you can have your final goodbyes, comments, tell your greatest stories and memories. The deletion of the Shanehere is at midnight.



Why detele?
There has been some confusion as to why delete. It is to ensure that beyond a doubt that it will end.

Shane I am sorry to see you go but am glad to see you move on. Its been fun being chased by you around raids. You have been fun to fight these past years. Good luck in your future and keep in touch on the boards at least! Fair winds!

It will be a weird/empty moors after you leave, that is for sure. It's good to know that even though the great Shanehere will be deleted, the person who made the memories will be following his aspirations.
The good times will be remembered, and perhaps we should have another 1v1 considering we've only had one ;D. (I can get Ali to convince you again if need be ^.^)

I next to never raid or group in the moors as my burg but as my cappy Allyssie i raided with you a fair bit a while back. Really enjoyed your leadership and experience.
I went and checked out your YouTube channel and realised you were just a young fella :-)
I respect what you are doing Shane. Good luck with your life adventures and i can't wait to see your first movie debut!!

Smart kid that shane...Games will always be around a chance to plan your future will not.I wish you all the luck in your future endevours.

Also I would recomind against deleting yourself I know at your point in life Shane everything happends fast and playing a mmo everyday seems ilogical and it would be.

But...

Trust me life will slow down one day as you get settled into your new life.Then you will have ALOT more time on your hands perhaps even enough to kill some creeps on your champ.Also all the time you spent getting r14 would be wasted time ....just retire him then when life slows down and you have the time you at least have the option to still hit r15!

Good luck with your studies Shane. Like Obiwaan said, the game will always be here, but your chance at a future won't. Don't delete, but just retire. When you come back in 6 mos or 6 years you can see the vast differences (except to creeps ;P).

You are making a good decision to concentrate on school, but don't throw away what you have done here.

Good luck Shane. I think a lot of us have moved on at this point and while everyone has their own reasons all good things come to an end. I'll always remember your company fondly and wouldn't have missed out on the chances I had to play with you. Rank, titles, rating, etc, really mean nothing in the end but the time spent with great people one would not have otherwise gotten to know is something priceless. Thanks for the good times man.

I do have to agree with Obiwaan here, I would not recommend deleting.
You never know you just 'might' change your mind, and then you would have to grind all over again.
I'd keep the account and characters.
However if you really can't resist the temptation, and you know it's there, get a close friend/relative to change the account password, write it down on a piece of paper and lock it in the deepest, darkest pits of Moria (a Safe or something) for when, as Obiwaan put it, "life slows down" and you have time to adventure!

I've only put in a few months of play-time on my account but, even if I stopped playing and swore never to return, I wouldn't delete it - I just wouldn't be able to bring myself to flushing all that time (and money) down the toilet! ;p

I'll never understand why people delete MMO avatars. Just delete the client and move on. If later in life you want to play and have the time, just reinstall the client. I left WoW over a year and half ago and have never felt the need to reinstall the client and I was very addicted to it.

Anyway, good luck Shanehere with whatever you do. And it is your choice to blow up your toon, but I don't think it is necessary.

And yes, I wouldn't bother deleting as you could always just buy your toon back now lol

As others have stated i would advise against deleting your champ as well. Ive known more than one person to come to regret this type of thing. LoTRO is not merely a game but more of an experience, a lifestyle so to speak. All of theses characters we level and rank for so long represent a part of us personally.

Go live your life and enjoy college and beyond. One day you may wanna come back and dust off the toon you put lots of effort and time into and have some fun w/ it again , even if may be way more limited than what you were used to back in the day =)

Awww--it's been fun the few times I've been in your raids (even when I'm not of entirely sober state :P). You're one of the few people I've ever met that has never had anything negative to say about anyone--keep it that way!

I also agree with all the other posts out there advising again deleting your toon. Besides, do you really want to give someone else the ability to make another "Shanehere" and running around? Do us the favor of not letting that happen! It would be too weird.

***You should just turn your account over to someone else you trust a lot and have them change the password and security questions so you can't get your account back until you're done with school!

Shane it's been fun raiding with you. I've always enjoyed the dj and our philosophy talks. I honestly hope though that you don't delete your toons but rather have a friend change your password and save it until you learn to balance your life. Trust me, you can balance LOTRO and college.

Play 1 or 2 hours on a friday or saturday, Life goes on and life is short.

You can still find time for school,Family and to build a family.
