I have leveled a elf hunter to 66 among many others on 2 life accounts and 2 pay per month accounts, and have now spent some time away on other games. Coming back this game seems so slow to play, almost no skills are instant cast, the action almost looks slow motion. Is there any plan in the future to speed this game up? I've played to level 37 in Rift on a mage and most spells are instant cast and the ones that have a cast time are monumental. It is hard to get involved in the action on screen when i spend most of my time with a cast bar waiting to unfold. C'mon lets revise the ability and spell times and get this game moving. I much prefer Lotro but cant get past the yawning.

I hope not! It's the perfect speed for me to deal with and react to what is going on around me. I'm no longer a 20-year-old with lightning reflexes, and many other players aren't either. There are so many games around that I suck at because I don't have the reflexes of a young person any longer, but this game has the perfect speed to make the outcome of combat depend on thinking rather than who reflectively hits the keys quickest.
hehe no need to fear, not what i'm aiming at. i'm 35 and a sleep deprived shift worker, my reflexes you could time on a sundial. BUT after eq1+2, ultima online, wow, rift, aion, and too many others to mention, this game looks and plays slow. Surely there could be a better setup than what is currently available.
Seems to me like maybe it's the annitmations more then the time it takes to cast that you are getting at.
I can see part of what you saying I guess I'm just use to it and it is a slower combat system then others, but I kind of like it that way. Gives me time to decide what to do next instead of just hitting keys and hoping for the best outcome.
I think it's just the way the combat system is set up on the game and it's "turn-by-turn" combat system. From what I have seen other sytems just use the insta action to beat your oponents .. in other words the faster you are the more hits you get in. But I honestly don't know.
LotRO does place more of an emphasis on inductions and animations than other games, and it did take me some time to unlearn key spamming, but it was a nice change. Being able to queue your next ability sets a nice non-ADHD pace. The game is fine for me the way it is.
While it is a slower pace game then other MMOs out there I wouldn't say it is all that slow. Perhaps you should try a different class that has more instant cast specials. I think the Champion makes it seem like things are going faster. I have only levelled a Champion to 46, but the killing seemed to go alot quicker.
I have to agree with the poster above, if you don't like cast times hunter is not for you. Try a lightning RK or a minstrel or pretty much any melee class if you want to go faster. Hunter's are designed to stand still and cast.

What are you saying... no one uses Improved Fleet Stance? He he.

Amen to this.
That is one of the best things this game has going for it in my opinion. I love how it's paced, and relies more on strategic decesion making rather quick reflexes.
I despise all of these new fangled games where you have to have instant reflexes and no lag to avoid being one-shotted by this or that. I sit down to play a game so I can relax and have fun - not be stressed out.

Ah, Rift, the game where you only need to use two keys, both loaded with macros.
One key's macro triggers whichever spell/skill is available from the pre-set list you created, whole the other key's macro which uses a reactive skill when one becomes available, the macro selecting the right one based on which reactive event just triggered. This macro system means DPS 'rotations' are laughably simple, a 5-year-old can do it by copy/pasting the macros the min/maxing raiders come up with.
I play Rift, currently have a 50 Rogue and 50 Mage, with a 41 Cleric, in the past I've had a level 50 Cleric and another Rogue. I like the game, really enjoyed exploring it the first time ... but ...
I too hate button-mashing games, so Rift's macro system makes it enjoyable for me, but I can recognise a severely dumbed-down playstyle when I see it, and I see one whenever I play Rift.

Our combat system is designed for a different customer base than the combat system you find in a game like the Rift. Here in Lotro, you have to think about everything - pick the correct choice at the moment out of a massive selection. Wait for it.
IMHO - Games like Rift are easy to play when you are mentally impaired. You only have button 1 and button 2. The movement and targeting commands (which may be a problem if you are mentally impaired). Rift is an online FPS (First Person Shooter). FPS is a very popular combat system.
Our combat system is not going to change. All that would happen is that Turbine spends massive amounts of dollars in order to reduce revenues. Yula and a lot of other players will quit. Part of the reason we play Lotro is that Lotro does not have the Rift combat system.
I really loved the game play of the Rift. I would be playing the Rift. There is a huge selection of game available in 2012. It is not worth my trouble to ask a game designer to change a game to suit me. Wait the 12+ momths for change to happen. I will find something that is available on May, 11, 2012 that already has an acceptable mix of features. Plus I have zero interest in annoying all the customers that love the game the way it is.
Unless stated otherwise, all content in this post is My Personal Opinion.
In my opinion there is only one game that beats LotRO in it's combat system, and that is Age of Conan. AoC is extremely fast paced and you really need to know what you are doing to do actual DPS at all. The downside is, that you need to play that game a lot to be any good in it at all. On a real DPS class the solo thrash fights are over in 3-5 seconds.
If LotRO feels slow, all you need to do is make a Champion and dual Wield. My Champion (level 68 at the moment) kills on-level normal mobs in 5-15 seconds, depending on how (un)lucky I am with crits(16% base chance). If he fights 2-6 mobs, it takes 7-20 seconds. And he is 2h, so he is naturally a bit slower on very easy fights.
