    The Tolkien Boson

In reference to an earlier post of mine and a thing that I propose gives all things magical in Middle-Earth their magic.

Much like the proposed Higgs Boson gives all matter it's property of having mass!

Huh? The thing that explains magical properties is 'magic'. You don't need to explain the explanation. This isn't a Star Wars prequel.

But note that, as fantasy worlds go, Middle-earth is a very low-magic world.

Well, it's not as if the Higgs Boson were relevant to the game or anything (unless THAT's what's wrong with the forums!), but....

#1 Rule of Magic: Never ever ever ever define how magic works. This limits it and in some cases eliminates its magicalness. For example: compare the magic of the Inheritance Cycle with that of the Old Kingdom Trilogy.
