Weekends a 'ere,.and Coffee & Tea be served,..pop a squat and drink up! Cinco says!
"Squeak Squeak" goes the Chilla,...
This dwarf stumbles in. Nary a word, nary a grumble, he tosses his Forochel parka over the back of the worn chair and continues to the bar.
" Coffee, pls. Have ye any honey today? I know the bees have been acting funny 'round Tuckborough."
"squeak!"
"very good then! A bright spot on this grey day,..I'd say to leave the window open for some fresh air,..but the noise outside is deafening,..if not annoying. A reminder that life goes on out there. Somehow they're do'in it. Yet I have many an orc to slay and so little time"
"Mmm,..thanks, Wilson. This coffee does taste good,..where was I?"
Good morning all!,..Well it's about noon here,.heh.
Hope all has some goodies planned this weekend,..even if that includes doing nothing at all!
We're open!

Good Afternoon!
THIS JUST IN!
Moments ago, Anarion submitted his FINAL PAPER, and therein his final finals assignment, of his college career. This technically makes him a graduated, and supposedly educated, man. But he doesn't actually walk the stage til next Saturday.
Four long years, you all have Definitely helped me through it, Thanks!

Thanks for opening, Welby.
In addition to Cinco de Mayo, it's also apparently Revenge of the Fifth day... LOL

Major Major Congratulations Anarionadama.
What an accomplishment! Be proud of yourself. Really well done sir.
Thanks for opening Welby. Have a great weekend folks. I am taking Mrs. Slammy down to Santa Monica and Malibu (partly for an UrbanPromise board of directors meeting) but also because it's our anniversary in a few days. Housesitter and kids are all taken care of and set, we're good to go!
A good way to celebrate both our 19 years, and this recent project completion.
May or may not be able to chime in over the next few days, so if not, Have a great week folks.

'Morning, Landrovalingas!
Thanks for opening, Welby! One question though - what on earth is to "pop a squat"? Sounds painful.

And congratulations to you too, Slammy! 19 years... so if you're going to Malibu for your 19th anniversary, what will you do to top that for the big 2-0?

Afternoon Landrovalrim,
Happy Cinco de Mayo to everyone. And Happy 19th to the slamcouple!
I hope everyone is having a good weekend. Yesterday was my last day at the store I worked at for almost 3 and a half years. I will have more to say about this on Monday.
On this date in History in the year 1821, Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of the French and the greatest general of his age and perhaps in history, died in exile on the Island of Saint Helena. The "official" cause of death was liver or stomach cancer. The real cause of death, as proven by a team headed by the late Napoleonic scholar Ben Weider, was slow poisoning over time with arsenic. Louis the Xviii of France and his henchmen, as well as probably the Russians did not want a second return of Napoleon. It was probably someone close to the king who carried out the scheme. One of the people who volunteered to go with the Emperor into exile was obviously a traitor to Napoleon.
A former grenadier of Napoleon's Imperial Guard erected a bronze statue of Napoleon on his property. When the man died, he sought and received permission from the local authorities to be buried standing up in his uniform with his musket and bayonet, so that he could "Stand Guard over his Emperor for Eternity." Vive Le Empereur!

ahhhh no fear Doc... I came to breath some life into the thread, at least for the moment
Spent the day on the Austin Duckboat tour (the 4th time) Its always fun though and we always pick up another little tidbit about Austin and its history. Had joined an old friend who leaves next week to live in Germany for a few years courtesy of the US Army. Hoping I might be able to go visit them while they are there. Its one of my dreams to visit Europe, Especially Germany.
Grats on finishing the paper Aniarion
and Grats on 19 years Slammy and Mrs Slammy. Santa Monica should be lovely.
Have a great weekend everyone. Have some pie

Just some silly thing I learned long ago from I forgot who and don't remember why.
Seems to me I've always heard it in a sports-related context (eg a coach to a sports team). I have heard it before though.
Today should've been over awhile ago but I keep finding some other damned thing to keep me awake. I spent most of the day staining the latest thing on my workbench. I spent a fair while mocking up the new living room in GIMP with scale representations of the area and relevant furniture. This way we should know with some certainty how it'll all be laid out. I also renewed my drivers license (whoopee) and since I may be receiving it in the next 45 days maybe I'll have it before I'm supposed to take another trip up north in... 15 days. I don't think I'll be holding my breath.
For the last while I've been looking over Etsy and trying to grok this notion of making a shop there. I feel a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing. I tried searching for just "leather" goods and there's no shortage of items already for sale. Most of them aren't exactly "handmade" (in the sense of being tooled/stitched by hand) but a good few are. Several are a good deal better than I could do too. =/ On the other hand, I'm 6 pages in so far and haven't seen a single leather box. Or a wood box with a leather inlet. Plenty of bits that are obviously using parts/kits from Tandy's though, which is a bit amusing. I've been starting to recognize Tandy's parts in tv show props. This may be a indication that I'm a tad too familiar with their inventory.
Between all that I think I got an hour or two of TOR in there somewhere. Probably be more of that tomorrow without any apparent projects to work on. Hopefully ya'll have a grand one!

Is it a dying phrase? Makes me wonder what other words or terms from my generation are getting phased out.

Nothing wrong with being too familiar with yer interests
YOu've reached the next level! DING!
And maybe you can get a Canadian License before your US one arrives!
Hey,.as a Canadian, will you two need to pick up your tickets at the will-call line? OR are they mailing them to your US address?
They said they'd mail it to US residents a month or so before Pax. One thing I noticed was they didn't ask for names. Don't they print that stuff On the pass itself?
Otherwise,..If I decide not to go Sunday,..I can give my pass to someone else, eh?

Truthfully I am sticking with my easy-going Cook job as long as possible.
There is an on-site chef here where I work,..and I don't think he thinks it is 'easy going' ,..hehe.,.he is always in a rather off-putting mood actually,...I don't blame him,..during some of my 'overnighter' work binges,..I'd see him come in at like 5am, and I'd scare the bejeezus outta him hehe.
One good thing is, he does get out of work while the sun is still up!
==========
Back at work,.hopefully not for long, so I can salvage some semblance of a weekend. And I still wanna fit Avengers in there!

I don't know if I could say that it's dying or not, it may well just be used more commonly in certain circles. Possibly much in the same way we've adopted the phrase "Forsooth".

Now if I could just get the stains to do as I will, or learn how to use the cams and verns properly, then maybe I could get to one of the mid-range levels.

It's pretty unlikely given the timing of everything. My current license expires on 25May. I don't expect to hear back on the visa until after 01June. My "Move or Lose" day is 21June. I suppose there's a very slim chance I'll get the visa back early but it's not anything I can count on, and if it comes back with another "No" I'm not really sure how I'm going to get the geekmobile across the border at all.

We certainly will. Come heck or high water I won't be at this address once they mail those out.

I'm sure they're implementing some new anti-counterfeit measures this year (given last year there were about twice as many counterfeit badges as authentic ones), but I doubt names on the badges would be one of them. If it's an authentic badge there's no problem at all with you giving it to another person. If my visa comes back with "No." then I'll probably be giving my Friday pass away.
Re: Weekends a 'ere,.and Coffee & Tea be served,..pop a squat and drink up! Cinco sa
I always heard "cop a squat". Since to "cop" something meant to take it illicitly, it made sense to me.
Amazing weekend. With the help of a team of fantastic young people, and a ton of sand, we got the pool set up and filling. I grilled burgers, to show my gratitude, and am now stuffing my face.
*contented sigh*
