Smile Lotro: My New favorite MMO

Hi, I played several MMO's in the past. I played WoW for a month, and tried Dungeons and Dragons, but in the end, I have to say that Lotro is the best I've played so far. I've been playing for about 2 weeks and im already level 33. I even bought the half off mithril edition from gamestop and using the tp from that, got Enedwaith and Evendim.
Lotro is a great MMO. Not only does it have a great story/plot, the character progression and questing flows very eadily unlike WoW where I had to look online to see where I had to go next. Another thing I like about Lotro that's different from other MMO's is that you can earn Turbine points ingame, and the deeds arent too impossible to accomplish.

I'll probably be playing Lotro for a while. I've only played 2 weeks so far, but Im already hooked on this game. I hope that I'll eventually learn all of the basics soon and eventually hit the level cap

Welcome aboard! I started near the end of 2010 after a seven year stint with Conquer Online. I of course tried other MMOs along the way, including WoW, and I'm with you 100%. The content, the worlds, the ACCURACY, and yet it's still boss when it comes to the roleplay element. It's everything a lonely MMO-seeker could wish for. The updates have been choppy with little errors and the like, but this happens with all games. In the end, a lot of the changes are for the better and many people remain happy and loyal. In any case, I'll cut this short. From like Oct 2010 til now I've been playing, and I'm at 6 chars. Yeah. I know, lots of people have more, but each char has so much you can do with it. LOTRO > those other MMOs

Glad you're enjoying it I notice you're playing champion and that has to help the enjoyment, champion is probably the most fun you can have in game, it was the first character I rolled and it's still my favourite class of all - and after 5 years, I've tried them all .

The thing that you'll find most refreshing of all in Lotro is the community, it's the friendliest and most helpful by far that I've encountered, as someone said in a thread the other day, ask a question in WoW and the likely response will be 'learn to play noob' you don't get that in Lotro, people will help with advice and hints/tips an awful lot.

Stick at it, you're fast approaching the Angmar area, that's where things tend to get 'interesting' I won't spoil it for you but a lot of fun awaits, however as a champion - you're well suited to deal with it. The game world itself is vast in size and there's an awful lot to see, as you progress you'll be amazed at the hugeness of the world as it exists now.

    Have fun

If I may add to the thread - I tried LOTRO a few months back then Star Trek Online came out F2P so scrapped everything for that. Now I have come back to LOTRO and have realised how much scope and depth there is to this game. It sometimes borders on frustrating when I really don't know what to do next lol. But the ease at which the game design lets me alter, remove, add and decide what quest to have on tracker; which skill within my chosen profession to try and level up; what colour to dye my clothes; what weapon to use and why - the list goes on.

I read in another thread someone complaining about levelling too fast - go play STO matey. THEN you'll understand the phrase "levelling too fast"

Overall tis a nice game and enriched with much to do. And being someone that shys away from too much real-people interaction I've even joined a kin and getting on quite nicely thank you.

Here's to a pint (it comes in pints!? - I'm off to get one!) at The Prancing Pony. So long as Barliman Butterbur bars the Nazgul.

I play both STO and LOTRO...change games as I get burned out. Yes to anyone on this game that sayd leveling is to fast go play STO. you will be max level in three days max. Then there is not much to do but 5 man/ship "raids" if you can call them that.

Re: Lotro: My New favorite MMO

Welcome! I have been playing MMOs since 2004 or so. Started with WoW, started LOTRO in early 08. Took a break after Moria (i love Moria but it was getting old), played a few other games, including STO. I went back to WoW and then started SWTOR in December. I have been back here for about a month.

This game's community really is special. I can count on 1 hand the number of unpleasant people i have encountered over the years playing this game. Compare that with the typical experience of any of those other games.

I urge you to upgrade your account. That 50% of RoI deal was killer, gave me enough content to get my lower alts to Moria (eventually!) And Dunland itself is an excellent area. Otherwise you can probably bide your time til RoR and upgrade then if they don't run that special again.

Anyway, welcome again and I hope you enjoy your new community.

Re: Lotro: My New favorite MMO

As another new player, would like to echo the sentiments of the OP.

Am ashamed to say that was in the original LOTR beta and at the time it just didn't 'grab me' (maybe just playing in the dwarf starting area had something to do with it). Now, many years down the line, decided to give it another try and am completely hooked. The first time round I missed out on the beautiful landscapes of Breeland and the Shire, the brilliant creepiness of the Old Forest and Barrow Downs etc and the way they all form part of the living world that is Middle Earth online - indeed the amount of places to go and things to do is staggering. And then there are the skirmishes which are great when you just want to get into some action quickly.

Also now appreciate the flexibility of the character trait system, the addictive deed/title system (this is a real hook for me) and the cosmetic gear system (so you don't have to run around with a generic-looking toon at low levels), which were also things that I seem to have missed first time round. While I generally prefer more action-oriented combat systems, the way it's handled in LOTRO is somehow still satisfying (probably partly due to the animations and effects), just as the riding mechanic somehow 'feels' just right. Oh and the way you can play music in-game is also a nice touch.

I've played many MMOs including Guild Wars, WOW, COH/COV, DDO and LOTRO now ranks among my all-time favorites. I expect to be playing this a long time (and just when I was looking to kick the MMO habit!).
