A short story of Lothlorien, Turbine and Lore

Reading the Update 7 Patchnotes I read the following:

"You no longer need to be Acquaintance with the elves of Lórien in order to pass the borders. People will need to be able to run through this land in order to access Mirkwood, the Great River, and the lands beyond. It's time for the Elves to be a little more trusting. (You are a friend of Gandalf, Elrond, and the Fellowship, after all.)"

So we're just telling the sentinels that we're friends to Gandalf and can go anywhere ... That ... makes ... perfect ... sense.
Seriously this doesn't even work in nightclubs so why would that work here.

    I know, we'll ask Haldir ...

Now, friends, said Haldir, you have entered the Naith of Lorien, or the Gore as you would say, for it is the land that lies like a spearhead between the arms of Silverlode and Anduin the Great. We allow no strangers to spy out the secrets of the Naith. Few are permitted to even set foot here. (...) Yet this is our law. I am not the master of the law, and cannot set it asside. I have done much in lettting you set foot over the Celebrant

Looks like Haldir doesn't share the thought of people skiping Lothlorien just to get to the other zones faster.

The Fellowship is currently within Lothlorien, perhaps the Elves asked them about us? We've interacted with them before after all. Or perhaps Galadriel used her mirror and saw that we were an ally. *shrug*

This doesn't bother me all that much, really.

This is a really bad move. Lothlorien should and must stay as it now. When we arrive in Lothlorien we are strangers. Even Aragorn was held up by the Galadhrim and he was known to them.

Please don't let this go live. For the love of the lore

I have no doubt it will go live - which is a shame as it doesn't take much questing to have you let in. This continues the over-simplificatin that began with the Old Forest nerf and is pretty much the only ongoing complaint I have had with the game since the first year (oh, along with levelling being way too quick now - another plug for an xp toggle).

For many of us (note, not all - I know some love to rush to 75 and levelling alts can be a pain etc etc) the journey and not the destination are the charm of this game, and changes such as this detract from that charm.
The Balrog lives!! Oh, and give MECCG a try.

i wouldn't mind making it easier to reach acquaintance standing--say by adding rep quests that disappear once it is achieved--but removing the requirement altogether waters down the lore and degrades immersion.

the fellowship itself wasn't given free reign in lothlorien, why should we?

there are times that lore must be sacrificed to make the game more accessible, but this does not seem to be one of those times. not when a workaround would be so easy.

Re: A short story of Lothlorien, Turbine and Lore

I am of the opinion that once Galadriel had seen the real threat that the One Ring posed with her little episode with Frodo, she was much more open to letting other Free Peoples in to Lothlorien. The days of the Elves are passing, it is the time of Man. They will soon pass in to the West, leaving their beloved homeland for Men. So, why have an outdated policy that will soon be irrelevant?

That's the beauty of this game, once the Fellowship has passed through, the lore is fair game, as long as it doesn't step on the outcome of the books. There's so much that Tolkien could write about, the rest is up for fair story-telling by those that hold the copyrights.

Those are my two coppers on the matter.
