Hello lorebreakers. My main is a facerolling champ but I'm happily leveling up my RK. He's at 58 now, about to leave Moria with 4/6 Word-Smith's set and two shiny lvl 60 1st Age LI's that I fancy will probably last me until 75 2A, since it appears so many important RK legacies are % based rather than ratings based (hooray for that).
I haven't had the opportunity to heal in groups more than a couple of times. It was somewhat frantic but I think I'll get the hang of it. My question is this: is there some sort of plugin you guys use to keep track of buffs? I have BuffBars already which is great for TWWNHU (hehe, I think I got that acronym right...) but I'm finding it difficult to keep track of buffs on fellow members. Prelude isn't too bad since I can just refresh when the little icon goes away, but it's freakin' impossible to see the tiny numerals on Writs at my standard resolution. It's a little easier when I'm actually targeting the fellow in question but in raids, the buff icon is so darn small. This also applies to WoF/WoC on mobs I'm DPSing. Or is the correct answer "learn to refresh on time automatically, you facerolling champ noob!"?
When healing i tend to use the CDs of other skills as a timer to refresh HoTs, sometimes things get a bit hectic and you'll miss a few writs, but that's just how it is.
Plugin wise i use Combat Analysis & Buff Bars, and a few others for a variety of fluff options.
As far as i am aware there isn't anything that will really help you with skills you have applied to others, it's just an experience thing.
Also bare in mind with buff bars you can make multiple bars, i actually have three in various positions of my screen. Debuffs, Buffs & MasterX. ie

Thanks for the info. I use BuffBars but don't typically actually use the BuffBars part of it since champs don't really have any buffs to keep track of (mainly just use it for ailment pots). Splitting it up like you have there will definitely help for Master of X especially. +rep

I guess my method is a little different from most. I don't bother with buffbars. I just look at the actual buffs on each of my fellows. I do a lot of over-healing too. I keep prelude up on everyone, and I keep Writ of Health on everyone. I spam Rousing Words as soon as it is up, as well as TWWNHU. Usually, TWWNHU first, and then Rousing to recover the attunement. The rest of the skills, I only use situationally; only if I need them.
While you burn at the stake, I dance with the flames. I take what you love and leave you in tears. I am relentless, unpredictable, and waiting for your last breath.
Yeah, that's probably the approach I'd try to take, too. But part of the problem I'm having is that it's hard to make out WoH tiers (specifically, it's hard to see the difference between II and III in the tiny icons).
If your having trouble seeing it one easy thing you can do is go to UI settings and enlarge fellowship vitals. I used to do this and found it quite helpful. In terms of plugins I also use buffbars/CA along with palantir occasionally.

^ This. Enlarging the vitals also enlarges the buffs beneath them, making them easier to see. Additionally, I have “show dispellable effects only” and “show effects cast by me” in UI settings checked, so that I can yell at people to pot their gorramed disease/fear/wound/poison. I keep myself and my target in the center of the screen, with my target's target in the middle of those two. I then proceed to play reverse whack-a-mole with the green bars and run towards my savior tank when I have the meanies hitting me. To quote Vraeden
You will never see a fight from beginning to end. Do you know what I think Thadur looks like? Green bars. How about Igash? Green bars that occasionally burst into flame. The turtle? Green bars with enormous feet. When I’m in Sammanth Gul, I see two things: bone piles and green bars. If you’re the healer, don’t expect to take in much scenery.
As mentioned above, I maintain writs on everyone in the fellow... I generally don't bother with prelude unless I need to gain attunement quickly. I keep rune-sign (generally lightning because I also trait Fall to Wrath and like the Fall to Storm bonus) up on whichever fellow member needs it the most (ie. champs in AOE situations, hunters in single target, loremasters/burgs when it's vital that cc doesn't miss). I save EOE and TWDNKU for 'oh shoot' situations. I've heard of other rks attempting to maintain MV on all the fellow members... This seems like a waste of attention and power to me (the mastery buffs are negligible - it had a morale buff before, yet I never heard of anyone attempting to keep MV up on all their fellow members, so I don't get the point).
Enlarging vitals will be a big help for sure. I should probably mess around with positioning on vital displays, too, although that might really mess with ingrained playstyle I've fostered. Hopefully I can get used to it as it's probably a ton more efficient. I generally don't have show dispellable effects on with my champ since I don't often look at fellow vitals (can't do a thing about, so screw 'em!) and I pay more attention to mob positioning to see if a squishy has aggro than I do to green bars dropping. I'll turn that on, though, even though RK's can't dispell just because I feel like it's a pretty healer-appropriate job. I already have show effects cast by me on.
Lightning rune-sign is the finesse/miss chance bonus? Does anyone know if the miss chance reduction cuts into the level difference miss chance (I'm thinking no)? My champ has gobs of finesse, rarely misses and is near the crit cap when buffed so most appreciates the mastery rune-sign. I guess I'll have to play that by ear and see what would benefit the group most based on gear. Either way, finesse would probably be very helpful pre-cap since no one really has any and the diminishing returns on finesse mean that the amount from rune-sign will probably be a huge dps increase.
In my very limited experience, I've only used MV on whoever's actively taking non-AoE damage, trying to heal regular AoE just with WoH, Prelude and Rousing Words if needed. I thought I read something about Prelude having a power heal component somehow? That seems useful.
I actually go off the color of the icon for WoH. It'll change shades of green that I unfortunately cannot describe but is highly noticeable to me after doing it for a while. It's a bit easier than trying to base it off the tiny number.
Rune sign of Storm is actually the crit one, and is one of the only ways to push someone over the crit cap. Usually the bonus to crit rating from the sign and from AFE will make most crit based classes hit the cap, and then the rune-sign percent will send them to 29% total crit.
Prelude does have a Power return, though it's very small. Roughly 80-100 power if I remember correctly. If you use it on yourself you will gain about 30 power more than you spend using the skill.

That's really nice looking ui, mind to tell the name of it?

I think it's called Minimal or Minimalist, and it's available at lotrointerface.com.

was gonna ask about the ui as well. I use azureglass, but that seems more compact. and i can still separate my heal/fire/lightning/winter skills efficiently
It's one a kin mate made for me a while back, located here
There seems to be a slight issue since the introduction of the 6th bag, but it's nothing major at all.
I'll ask someone to take a look at it when i cba, enjoy.
*wow -minus rep on my previous post for trying to be helpful, thanks!
