I've never really heard of it, to be honest. But one thing is guaranteed, it will be the next new MMO to kill LOTRO!
I kinda like the lifetime offer though.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"
Civ II rules after all these years......
With all the hype building up around GW2 in June, another game is coming alsoin June that doesn't seem to stir up so much attention: The Secret World.
No classes, no levels, setting in modern times, Zombies, Werewolves, Vampires... and they even have a lifetime offer during pre-order.
Anyone else interested in that?
Honestly with my attention and focus squarely on GW2 for a while now other game releases have passed to the way side. I have heard about it and Tera but overall I have come to a point in life where one mmo is way more then enough
Granted modern time mmo, zombies, werewolves ect sounds very interesting and I will surely look at it but GW2 is my game.
The only other mmo that was on my radar was Warhammer40k Online, mainly cuz of my years and years of playing it table top. Sadly that has been canceled
Add-on: Just went to the website, haven't had a chance to look around but the names of Funcom and EA attached to the product is sort of disheartening for me.

I'm a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
BaalStorm, Sing Omega
hmm I am not sure I like all characters being able to acquire/use all skills. Trying to master a class is part of the fun. As I understand it alts would just have different appearances and choice of faction. With regards to the cities are they free roaming or heavily instanced? Are the factions hiding themselves/their abilities from the public in a vampire masquerade kind of way? For me to want to play it I would want a better sense of the game limitations as to where you can go and what you can interact with. Can you drive vehicles? jump from rooftops etc.

Releasing the game nearly exactly in the launch time of gw2 is some pretty dumb idea. The secret world will maybe be a really interesting, fresh and good game to play, but it will just be totally overshadowed by gw2 ...

I'm following it. I'm registered etc. I play the mini game.
This is a niche game. They are not going to blow anyone out of the water. They're not setting up to compete for the main market share. They want more of a social media feel, it seems.
I'm in on it, but then again, I jump in on most games until release.
I'm eyeballing this one. Could surprise a few people.
Had my eye on this for a long time as it isn't just vampires, werewolves but a strong Lovecraftian and conspiracy element (you can play as an agent of Illuminati, for instance). It has a nice visual vibe as well.
However, I am put off by what appears to be a strong pvp role between the three factions (Illuminati, Templar, Dragon), as that just isn't my thing. They are already actively pushing which factions are leading on which continents through their Facebook feed.
This did look kind of interesting, but I'm probably not going to play anytime soon...I don't have the funds to support two MMOs and I'm not giving up LOTRO.
Well, I'll be able to give a better opinion after this weekend.
I will be curious as to your report. I too have been itnerested but FunCom is a negative. AoC is a fun game and I go there to play every so often but it was so broken and took so long to get playable that it is just sad to see such a good IP wasted. You would think they had learned from this lesson but I just don't know with them.
Tin foil hats will be big this season - Coco Chanel
but the names of Funcom and EA attached to the product is sort of disheartening for me.

Hmm. I don't have the same negative reactions as you guys do, because for me, I don't think of Age of Conan when I hear Funcom's name -- I think of amazing adventure games like The Longest Journey, and Ragnar Tornquist, the game's creator. It's a bit of a perception thing, I suppose.
I'd been interested in The Secret World ever since they began doing puzzles/ARGs/mysterious emails about it years ago (with people more intelligent than I could ever hope to be deciphering clues and cracking codes). I haven't pre-ordered or anything, mainly because I'm focused on a few work-related projects right now and feel guilty about purchasing something that would eat away what little free time I have left. I don't know how to juggle 2-3 MMOs at once, to be honest. Plus, the whole PVP-centric aspect of it like someone else mentioned leaves me a little cold.
The class-less, level-less features interest me very much though. And for me, it's kind of like a more updated, gritty version of The Longest Journey (one of my favorite games of all time).
