The Knights of the White Lady (LOTRO's largest LGBT-friendly kinship)
KWL is LOTRO's largest and best-organized LGBT-friendly kinship. We do not limit recruitment to LGBT people, but the kinship aggressively enforces an environment that is supportive of them. The kinship does not emphasize a play style such as "roleplaying" or otherwise, but is accepting of all play styles.
Founded on April 11, 2007, the kinship is named in honor of Éowyn, White Lady of Rohan. We chose her as a role model because of the way she rode (will ride) to battle pretending to be a man, and had to later "come out" as a woman before defeating the Witch-King of Angmar. The kinship's founder was Calafalas, an elf hunter. He was joined by Faern, a dwarf guardian, and Lallo, a hobbit minstrel, in organizing the kinship into its current form.
KWL has become quite selective in its admission process. We do most of our recruiting in-game and have grown with F2P but we are still considering applications. On the one hand, we recognize our role as a refuge for LGBT people who may have encountered trouble with homophobia or heterosexism in other kinships. On the other hand, the kinship's leadership strongly believes in fostering a close environment among our members, which becomes more difficult as the kinship becomes larger.
Anyone interested in the kinship is encouraged to visit our website and contact a Council member. KWL does require that you be age 18 or older and have at least one character at or above level 15.
Applicants are asked to submit responses to a series of questions, which are then used in evaluating whether to admit the candidate. Newly admitted members are considered probationary recruits for the first 60 days while the kinship gauges whether a good fit exists between the new member and the kinship. Permanent members are asked to group with, get to know, and ultimately sponsor recruits seeking membership. Recruits need four sponsors plus a final vote from the Council before being granted permanent membership.
And if we are close to what you are seeking but not exactly what you want in a kinship (more focus on raiding, RP, etc.), let us know and perhaps we can help you find a home among our allies.

Re: The Knights of the White Lady (LOTRO's largest LGBT-friendly kinship)
For the last two years, I have joined for the June event. Unless something unexpected comes up, I will be there this year. Besides the fact that it's very festive, it allows me to pick on Faaaaern..... a friend of many years. May even pick on Tal this year!

ps Congrats to Mehelps.

The Knights of the White Lady kicked off this June by celebrating Gurl Power throughout Middle Earth. Eowyn's Faire Pride Parade took place June 3rd in Bree. It was a huge success, made largely from the overwhelming turnout from other kinships and players. Pictures to come soon.
We are happy to announce five new members for the month of June:
Aeldrin
Akahsha
Camba
Goarth
Rhovanael
Every month, from amongst The Knights of the White Lady, a new Shield-Bearer is chosen. These Knights, nominated by any full member, represent our very best. We congratulate Wenstonlad as the upcoming July 2012 Shield-Bearer!
July 2012 has seen a number of returning members come back to KWL. Whether it has been real life scheduling, or returning from another game, we are happy to see so many familiar faces logging in again. We continue to receive applications from new recruits as well. This month saw two recruits promoted to full member status:
Gilveryon
Wulfenbryt
Our Shield-Bearer for August 2012 was chosen as well, due to his helpfulness in the kinship and overwhelming good nature. Congratulations to Danoroc!
Our August calendar has been flooded with things to do. Weekly events, such as Deed Night and Creeps Night, continue to be popular. New events such as a weekly Skirmish Night, and Thursday Late-Night Leveling are showing promise as well. Throughout these regular events, August has seen a revival in raid content, from a successful Vile Maw run, to running all parts of Ost Dunhoth, and renewed interest in Isengard content.
Two recruits were promoted to full status members in August:
Ashigaru
Hordmili
Our Shield-Bearer for the month of September has been announced as well. For her consistent and helpful presence, leadership (e.g., Deed Nights) and overall good will - please congratulate Gilhilde, our 2012 September Shield-Bearer!
September has been a great month for KWL! Everyone is excited about the upcoming Riders of Rohan expansion, and we've had several members holding forums on the new content since the beta was lifted. Raiding, creeping, questing, and deeding have all continued strong. It seems as though a small group of members will be starting RP nights - more to come on that next month.
Three new recruits achieved full member status this month:
Biotic
Erlena
Laralin
Also, our Shield-bearer for the month of October was announced. We're very proud to announce Rhovanael as our October 2012 Shield-bearer, for her constant involvement, aid and service to the kinship. We're excited about Rhovanael's Halloween Party in October too, so stay tuned for more about that soon.
