what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
Hello LM's,
My LM is just about to reach 62 and I have run out of content. I cannot buy Mirkwood yet (already did Mirk Eves though) and I have done Loth repeatables to my hearts content.
I want to play another class until I can get Mirk and level up an alt. I have played a few of the classes (no other classes past 50 though) but none of them stack up to my LM
what class did you LM's also like? (hoping maybe all LM's have a similar personality and you all can help
)

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
I liked the burglar and got an alt to cap. Burgs have lots of stuns and a good mez (and a meh root). With proper traiting, you can lock down multiple targets. Also, they have some nice debuffs that reduce damage or increase incoming damage.
But of course, there are many differences with regards to how you fight - all melee with basically no AOEs. Not having ranged attacks was somewhat frusrating, but balanced by the satisfaction of sneaking up to something and stabbing it in the back.
I've tried a few other classes (RK, Hunter, Mini, Guard), but theyr'e mostly around to hold inventory and craft. RKs and hunters are kind of fun if you just want to blast things for a while.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
Burglar. Same as LM, it's a thinking man's class. You have to plan your battles but at the same time be ready to throw that plan out the window and improvise. Stuns/roots/dazes/debuffs to throw around to keep you alive. Can be squishy, but can still solo like gods. The main difference is the LM is kinda AoE focused, and the burg is almost exclusively single-target. Not to say a burg can't fight multiple mobs, he just neutralizes them with cc and debuffs and then kills them one at a time. I run gambler and a t6 debuffing gamble+disable makes the mob do almost no damage. Then you can riddle another one and mez gamble a third, root/stun a fourth, stun the one your fighting. And that's not even the cc traited burg.
Burglar does one button for oh-@#$% moments that trumps any other class's panic button(except maybe Last Stand), HIPS. HIPS even beats LS, imo, because when you LS, you have to run to somewhere safe to survive. When you HIPS, even you get caught once you can R&A and HIPS again. That's another great feature to the burglar, you can go places you have no business going for your level.Last edited by Moejo; Apr 26 2012 at 09:54 PM.

If you have a look at the LOTRO store, the enedwaith quest pack is on special this weekend. Level 60+ content. 50% off. It might be a while before this region comes on sale again, so if you have the points, now is a good time to get it. That way you can continue on your main if you wanted to.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
I have a captain, Lm is supposed to be my main, but I actually end up playing a lot more with my cappy "alt" lately :P
I like grouping and both LM and capt are great classes group wise, captain is really all about supporting others and that is the reason why I like it that much. It can be a bit boring to lvl up sometimes tho. When you're used to play a LM going from 5 bars full of skills to 3 attack skills and nothing to do while you wait for the CD to be over is not that funny. I tend to miss my fellowship when I'm soloing :P
As for the burg, it was not for me, used to have fun spending my time sneaking around (and never completing a single deed just because I'm lazy and if I can skip a mob... I WILL skip it :P) but it turned out i was an awkward burg when it comes to grouping, it didn't fit my playstyle, had to abandon it :P
I also like minstrels and I'm thinking about leveling a champ. Must be funny with all of those AoE, even if you cannot strike them down with an awesome lightning storm... <.<KANOMIR Captain

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
Only my LM is level capped, but I have one of each class. I'm currently working on leveling them all (except the Warden; if I have time before RoR, I'll attempt to level him). Currently:
-My Guardian is level 65, but I just get tired of the slow DPS.
-My Champion is level 62.
-My Rune-Keeper is level 50.
-My Burglar, Captain, & Mini are all level 40-41. I was surprised by the Mini, tho - they are way powerful in Warspeech. The Captain was ok, but, like the guard, I got tired of the slow DPS.
-My Hunter is level 29. I'm currently working on him.
-My Warden is level 22, but I really don't foresee leveling him much, unless I have time before RoR is released.
Admittedly, I haven't grouped on my alts; thus, I haven't test out healing with either the RK or the Mini. I'm mostly leveling them so I have access to end-game crafted gear.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
I am currently levelling my Captain alt and I am definitely enjoying it....

I generally prefer to play support-type and more versatile roles and hence LM is my favorite....
The Captain is quite similar to LMs with much micro-managing to do and lots of roles one can fulfill and its a really pleasant change to be able to stand there in melee hacking and slicing and take a beating and still standing alive
The survivability and utility of captains is quite great.....of all my alts, its the most fun I've found to be when playing it as a change from my LM main....

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
I agree with everything! I love my Captain just as much as my Loremaster. And sometimes even more...the survivability is nice. Just today I pulled five half orcs at once and my Captain did just fine. (okay I'll admit it was a very close battle but I did survive it!)

Re : what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
I have a 75 burglar and it's my second favorite class.
I like especially to sneak when i play solo, it makes the game feel totally different, it's exciting, you can visit dangeous places you could never alone on level with another class. Burglar is especially fun for patient people, people who love to take the time to observe and analyze before to strike, a bit like LM, but even more due to the stealthy approach. Even more than LM, burglars rely on CC to survive as they are fully single target oriented.
I like the fact that you can use the three different trait lines, more than us LMs in everycase. Gambler is very fun in high levels.
The main weakness of burglars is the absence of AOE damage skills, so it's really harder than LM when you are attacked by 4+ monsters, especially during escort of defence missions aaaaargh, as you can't heal someone neither and have almost no agro skill !
I have tried every other classes at least until 30-40, but i don't have much fun with, at least in solo.Lhak, man, painter _ Lingard, unhealthy hobbit, sings and tells silly stories

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
Captain and Burglar. The Burg was my first alt and is played less than I would like because its on the account normally used by my wife, and Turbine, in theior mercy wont allow me to swap toons between VIP accounts I own and pay for! Burglars are great, he's been around since SoA and is an example of why I feel that if you have not been everywhere not level or what have you gated before L20 you are a rubbish burglar:-)
The other is a Captain, who gets a lot of play at the moment because LM has done most of it barring LG rep and some ToO stuff, just doesn't win the flippin' rolls.
Both alt classes are also for thinking folk who plan encounters. I've also got a minstrel but just dont find the class that exciting, just feel I have to grind him through to get the rep gated recipes to make for other toons.Mithithil Ithryndi

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
This.
At 62 you are at a perfect level to do the minorly revamped Enedwaith.
Enedwaith also give you 5 instances that are still run quite often.
Mirkwood also gives some, but I don't think many people still run those.
Enedwaith is cheaper to begin with, but during this sale it's an absolute bargain.
You can still do the Epic in Mirkwood ( I suggest you do, it gives 3 or 4 new skirmishes)
I suggest you make a fast killing alt like hunter and do all the easy deads in the starter area's. This should get you enough TP to buy Enedwaith.
Another option is to spend some money and buy Rise of Isengard ( legendary depending on what you have)
What alt I like:
My main was a Hunter, which I liked. Have Burglar alt which became my Main. Also have a LM alt, which I enjoy from time to time.
Hunter sounds like the best choice if you want to play fast/gather TP.

I have a 50 burglar that I haven't played in forever because I wanted AoE but I may give him another shot... but for now.. back to LM fun!!

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
Burglar.
More DPS (single target) than the LM by a longshot (2-3x). LM AOE of course is another matter.
You can daze while dps traited - just swap to mischief for a fight. You don't even need to run in mischief to daze - so basically you always have a 30+ second daze.
Your debuffs stack with other burglars. There's no reason not to do the same for LMs, at least with some diminishing return or at least for ONE debuff. I'd be happy if they let LMs stack just one. Burglars already stack 2 - reveal weakness and a trick. Other classes stack in their own ways.
Burglars are one of the most potent classes to stack in raids. A raid with just enough tanking, healing, and a captain, and a slew of burglars can do some amazing stuff ...
And to top it all off, burglars have much greater survivability.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
^^^THIS ^^^
Though I guess it all depends on what you want on your alt. The main 2 choices I'd think are Burg and Cappy.
I play a Cappy for the reasons listed above. I love the micromanaging aspect of a pet and knowing I have an off tank there with me so I'm never 'alone' That way even if I get stunned my 'pet' keeps hacking away or vice versa. I also LOVE the 'Do what needs to be done' feel of the cappy. Like the lore master your focus isn't JUST the battle field its your companions as well. There's nothing I hate more then seeing a mini out of power or the main tank about to die and NOT being able to do something about it. Yet the fact unlike a lore I can take a troll club to the face and barely flinch is a nice change for me. Alike yet different. Its a nice complimentary class for me.
If you prefer the CC style game play where you truly need to think before you leap and be aware of your surroundings to a paranoid level Id say a burg. It plays very similarly to a close range non pet single target LM. In other words the only real similarity is its a CC debuff support XD
As for the title question. My only alt I play seriously is a cappyLast edited by Reneko; May 01 2012 at 05:59 AM.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
It's funny and sad as I read all the burg praise; I'm reminded of how much of the LM's unique skills have almost been outright stolen over the past 5 years.
Burg's are overpowered, period; I understand they don't have an AoE root; but when you can debuff/dps/self-heal/HIPS/mez (and still have decent DPS) / +%50 to evade I'm pretty sure they don't need it.
Also, stuff thats rooted is still ACTIVE. When hidden, nobody's hitting you. Yes, i know about wind/fire lore.
Why do burgs get to keep their mez and DPS and LM's have to make a choice? Even reducing the MONF peantly to a 10 sec mez (instead of down to 5) would be much more balanced. I understand not leaving it at full duration.
Okay, LM's get pets. Sure. You seen some damage parsing on those guys? They are 200% underpowered right now, even fully trait into Master of Beasts. And Improved S/S will always bring the mob on you eventually. Yes, some self-heals too, but nowhere near the burgs skills which DONT require pets. Just a skill cooldown.
And AM set is for group content, plain and simple; so don't go there.
Heck, give burgs an AoE root; may as well at this point.
Sincerely, LM since BETA.QUOTE=Armedeus You are not a team power supply.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
Lol yeah lots of peeps on burgs. My favorite alt I play other than my LM has to be my champ. Though I can see why people would choose a burg or cappy (similarities in CC and pet play), I like to go a complete 180. While I like being a god at CC while on my LM, I also like to be able to put out a spanking and be able to take what I put out. My champ's at 65 atm, and I've been playing it before the huge revamp of the class with the release of RoI. Lol so in other words, I've been sticking with the class since when it was an absolute pain to play. Lol I remember when Fervour had that huge incoming healing debuff, no health bubbles, dire need had a 1hr CD, the use of heavy shields, and all those wonderful things that made playing a champ a real challenge.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
My alts are a rune-keeper and a captain. I've been playing them both for some years now, also in end game. I guess I like the support role. ^^
I love rune-keeper for the healing - it's really much fun! It's also nice to play it as a true DPS class now and then. A one-goal DPS class like a hunter would not suit me, as you do too much of the same thing.
Captain is great to play as well: you support the group, ven deal some serious damage, and everyone is always happy to have you around (really, captains are very popular for groups)! The last major update has been sweet to captains, making the class more versatile - it feels great to play now. It's also funny to see how incredibly sturdy you are compared to playing lore-master. It's usually no problem to take loads of enemies on you.Ravanel (lore-master) | Ravalinde (rune-keeper) | Ravenwyn (captain)

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
hmm.
well, my LM IS an alt.
my main is a 75 champ, although i haven't played him since U6. i've spent a lot of time on my 75 hunter, running both he and the LM through GR, and more recently, my newly 75 captain (who is about ready to hit GR).
i don't have a "favorite" per se, but i really LOVE the DPS classes, so that means i really enjoy playing my hunter and my champ. i do like the cappy and what he has to offer at max level, although i'm still in the process of getting gear for him and lining up the legacies on his everyday SA and his SA buff stick (he does have the full 6-piece galtrev set).

I have my main LM...and for the longest time just had a guard as an alt...but would consider him more of a co-main character..played them both as much. I have since capped out a hunter and an RK. Rk is a lot of fun, huge dps and tons of healing. Hunter is more dps...and some interesting cc.

Mini for me. I enjoy my LM for solo like no other and don't mind playing in group either.
I just found a mini to be so desired for groups that I was in more of a demand as a healer.
My mini is slowly taking over and I'm not sure I can call it my alt any longer.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
I also went for completely different play style. My LM is actually my first alt, currently sitting at level 68. My main is my champ. I like both equally well. On my champ I like wading in and aoeing everything to death. And in smaller groups I tend to tank alot, so that does offer a little complexity when trying to maintain agro.
When I play my LM, I'm mostly doing cc/debuffing/power management in groups. So definitely much more complex. And much more survivable in solo play with his stuns, during challenging fights that gave my champ problems.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
I wanted something different (otherwise why not just keep playing LM!) so I went to Champion as my first alt. The heavy armor, toe-to-toe fighting, and solid DPS was a fun new challenge. Learning how the various skills interact, effective order, shifting tactics, all fun for me.
Burglar is still a bit too slow for me, I'm not a fan of lots of prep for battle. Burg often feels too technical for me. Minstrel was much improved with the past update (6?) but the very binary nature didn't offer enough variety (I guess I'm just not a healer). I fell in love with Captain for a while, as it has a fun variety of skills to play with, but I've drifted away. I think the battle prep and binary nature of Captain (though far less in those respects than Burg or Mini) were the drawbacks. Guard hasn't kept my attention, perhaps its the narrow focus of that class. I hated Warden at first but have more recently found it an interesting challenge from time to time - but you need good memory and attention to play it well, I suspect. It's sort of technical in the way that a Burg is, though far more complex. RK I'm still having mixed feelings about, will get back to him one day. Hunter is fun-ish. So many travel skills! Not as interesting as many others, uni-dimensional in the way that Guard is, but I like ranged battle and the pew pew pew can be nice.
So, as I keep drifting back to LM, Champ is the only guy consistently drawing away my attention. I feel that the mindset is most similar - not much prep needed (if any), and you have the need and ability to change tactics at any moment (tank, aoe, single-target). New challenges included greater resource management (life and power). You must constantly decide which skill is best worth using.
And no offense to the other mentioned classes, I've enjoyed them all in one way or another.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
I have one of each class, minus the Warden. I am just not smart enough to remember all the Warden's Gambits.
Who I play depends on my mood and what group I am playing with. My favorite is my LM, but I enjoy the Guardian for pulling and holding mobs and high survivability. Captain is fun and is a jack of all skills kind of girl. RK gets to be great after you open up a few class traits and can switch from dps to heals more quickly. Hunter is easy dps and in high demand for taxi service. Champ is an awesome dps class with a ton of aoe skills. They can solo stuff most classes only dream about. Burg is a good moors class because of high damage and nobody can catch them. Mini is also a great dps/healer and in high demand for raids.
Oh if you are f2p you have to pay tp to unlock rk or warden.

Re: what OTHER class did you all like? (as an alt)
My main, and my love, from day one is the LM. At the same time I play a Hunter when I want to take a mental break since its my relax class. Been playing and leveling these two since SoA Alpha, even with all ups and downs that have been happening I stay loyal to first level my LM and than follow with my Hunter. It provides me with diversity in play time. Prefer playing my LM in a support role and to control the bettle. Love multitasking so I greatly enjoy the potential and demand that the class has. Plus it is kinda in a good place overall so makes me satisfied. Hunter is there to provide me with a nice break since it is a simpler class to play with (though far easier to level a LM in my opinion lol).
With Moria I started leveling a RK since I saw the potential for a healing class (especially since I didn't like the Minstrel class originally). That was a painful process but finally found the time to level my RK and simply love the class. Enjoy healing and damage mod, though in raids prefer to heal. Its a great little class and son became my number 2, lol. I think I finaly started playing it when the cap was 65, took me a while to level her. Now I first start raiding with my LM than start adding my RK into the rotation, and than just put my Hunter in the mix to keep him "up to date" lol. Plus there is greater demand in my kin for my LM and RK than it is for my Hunter as it is natural.
Lately been leveling my Cappy as well. Want to get her up into the mix. Started long time ago but recently started playing her a bit as well. Think she is at lvl 44 and in Forochel. Like the class, took a bit of adjustment in play style since had to get in there lol.
Finally, lately been playing with my Burglar. Made a Hobbit because I enjoy looking at them run so it was source of entertainment. But than had too many horses in his badg and decided to push him over 20 so he can learn those skills and open some bag space. Think I got him to level 21 or so during the Anniversary Festival.
All in all, my LM is my love and my all time favorite, closely followed with my RK and than my Hunter. Hopping to get my Cappy in the mix soon (read a year or so) and maybe the Burglar.Hallatur [LM] | Galadtar [HNT] | Yaraval [RK] | Tarsilme [CPT] | Till [BRG]
