I don't think the OP was being unreasonable. There were snippets of Moria and Mirkwood released to us long before the release dates. I took it that he wasn't asking anyone to work faster, just saying if you've got something, now's would be a good time to show it.
I was actually being facitious about GW2 being like GW1. I made that remark presuming most people realised just how different they were. I totally agree, GW2 should not be judged by GW1.
Coming to your computer via the interwebs in update 7 for our awesome game ___________________...
...brand new stuffs! With cool new things, that do cool new actions for new rewards so that your character can look new and go new places on a new steed while wearing new armor! YEAH BABY!!! WOOOOOO!!!!
Um, so yeah. Just fill in the blank with whatever MMO and there's your update. What exactly do you expect anyway?
Will it 'kill' LOTRO? Probably not. But it's very different from its own predecessor, and should not be judged by experience with the first game. Certain game sites were able to participate in the last closed beta, so you can find accounts of their experience, and even screens and videos. Judge GW2 based on GW2, not GW1.
It will be interesting the hear about how that plays out... AC2 was quite different from AC1...and look which one survived for the long run.
Isn't this thread for U7 discussion? Oh God how many times i saw the same pattern. Fanboys of future game attack, troll and whine on old games forums until release of this wonder game. Month or two later fanboys disappear and "promising game" decays. People come back to old games (Lotro, WoW) whining and waiting for another ubergame.
About U7 we know that Fornost will be scaled (and surely divided) there. Also we can expect next warden and pvmp tweaks.

I know I don't expect a PvMP update in U7 and not even in RoI. I expected a new map many times and even when it was promised, it got cut out.
PvMP doesn't need tweaks, it need massive overhauls.
For all new games its best to follow the standard rule. Wait for it to come out and see what people have to say about it after its been live a few months.
Swotor may have been hyped as the new shiny but one of its devs did say this week he is looking at server merges.
How about they break more things in 6.2 before trying to put new content that is broken. I means Wardens are still broken, horses are still freezing, the Bauble is still not in the game as a quest reward in thinglad, Draigoch is still bugging in phase 3. I mean alot of these bugs have been around since U5 and they yet to fix them. I still have a few patch notes that state they "fixed" dragon from going "brain dead". Also they put in the patch notes from 6.1 that they fixed the bauble and the horse freeze, guess that was just another Turbine lie.
I say bring on U7 and put in a random disconnect generator and when the person gets kick there is a HAHA! message screen.
The social interaction is just one way GW2 is different, while many MMos encourage people to be selfish, GW2 encourages the opposite - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXdcJDRPZuU
To be honest from that video I got two things...
1. You can buff teammates..... sounds familiar....
2. There is certain content that needs certain players to complete... Again sound familiar.
Not saying GW2 is good or bad... just saying from that video it does not seem that different than other MMOs.
The 2 things in this thread showing how GW2 is a different MMO is a blog by Areananet linking the advanced hype its gotten and a video of a guy reading a letter written by an Arenanet programmer saying its awesome.
What I took away from watching that video are that you won't be able to solo very easily and you can apparently use guns.
I'm sorry, but GW2 is just another MMO. It may be better than most, or it may completely fail to live up to its hype. Either way LOTRO will survive just like it has with every other MMO release in the last 5 years.
Oh, are they now really?
My Warden is working just fine. I have succesfully tanked:
Fangorn's Edge T2
Pits of Isengard T2
Dargnakh Unleashed T2
Foundry T1
Roots of Fangorn T2
I'm not an incredibly tough, experienced, or well-geared Warden. I can roll in the Galtrev Daily that lets you select the Compendium vol.3, run around, get about 15 monsters on me, and still come out on top without even being brought in real danger. I have no issues managing threat in group runs, and I find there is a perfect balance between the tanking and the dps-ing stances. I have no experience with Assailment, nor do I have any vast experience in the 12-men raids Dragioch and Orthanc, and I assume it gets a lot more difficult pulling off runs like that considering our squishieness, but it's still been done and quite frequently actually.
There are some bugs and issues, but to say that the Warden is broken is an immense exaggeration.

Reason: I wrote "Recklessness" instead of "Assailment"
When other mmo's have come along, ive seen a few people wander off over to them and come back a bit later on in most cases, even for the massive buget SWTOR.
However, this is going to be a little different for varoius reasons.
Most of the players i know are now crying out for something new, where as previously only the few were.
More people than ever feel snake bitten by turbine right now, more than any other time ive ever know.
Most of these people have either pre purchaced either Diablo 3 or Guild Wars 2, and im a lot of cases (myself included) bought both of these games.
I will miss lotro, for its community who as a whole is one of the most sensible and mature gaming communities ive ever had the joy of being a part of. The game however, is flawed and not being fixed in the way that these sensible and mature members of the community expect as a valued customer.
To move on to another game isnt to slate the people who will remain here in lotro and have fun in doing so. Its to accept that this game no longer fulfils the needs of these people and that they are prepared to go and invest their time and money elsewhere with a product that they have researched and concluded to be the right consumer choice for themselves.
People who are happy with lotro will keep playing and be happy in doing so. People who have made their choice for their next mmo will do the same. I wish all the best to everyone regardless of where you happen to spend your game time.
Yes, yes. Every single time a new MMO comes out, LOTRO is about to die. The world is about to end. Yet again. And every single time it's 'different' than the last time.
I like some of the things they're doing with GW2. I really am. I'm definitely going to check it out. But despite some interesting mechanics, it's just a hotkey MMO, just like everything that's come before. Also, on the very launch day it's going to feature cash shop along with loot boxes and some other buffs that people so vocally begrudge here. I predict a lot of disappointment given how unrealistically huge expectations some people seem to have.
In the end, LOTRO will carry on just like it always did.
Haven't spent a dime on SWTOR (and any other MMORPGs) since LOTRO came out
Sibling!
I paid my $199 first chance I got. Since then, all I've paid for are the periodic expansions. I'd been playing Turbine games since 1998; I knew what they could do and that they cared about the story line.
Faith, trust, loyalty ... pay off in the long run.
I've tried GW and it did not appeal to me, it was too over the top in the graphics. Steroid ridden males and bikini warrior mages, yeah no thanks.
Heh. Sort of Everquest with more pixels?
I remember looking at the EQ box when it first hit the stores, with the busty bimbo with pointy ears and a powder-blue bikini on it, and thinking "No way." And "Poor girl, how much did they pay her to dress up like that? She must've been desperate."
When I first saw the AC box, on the other hand, I saw Shasta daisies thirty feet tall and men fighting Olthoi atop giant mushrooms. Read the back of the box, with its hint of plot complications to come, and I said "I want to play this." Whh said, "It's an online MMO; you have to pay a monthly fee." I said, "I don't care, I want it."
A month later he bought his own account and we were off to the ... not the races. The adventure.
Less than 6 months after launch? That IS bad news for that game.

Lotro should have done the same a long time ago. But the simple fact is Lotro can't cope with many people on a few servers. The engine is just too old. Even with some of the servers pretty deserted, the lag is still present. The servers being merged on SWToR are still far more populated than some of Lotros.

The life time option was a good deal. I'd be all about LOTRO if it cost me nothing and I had full access to the game. It would be hard to justify any product with a recurring cost compared to that. I'd probably defend it as strongly as many of the lifers do on these boards. The model GW2 puts out seems to be enticing many in-game friends that I have that oppose SWTOR/WOW b/c of a monthly cost. I'm in the group of people that doesn't have a life-time account and gets to vote with my wallet (in addition to spouting off on forums).
My choice to spend my money on another game is directly the result of what I consider sub-par expansion, content updates, class updates, store intrusions, lag, bug-fixes and general experience in the game since September.
Skraids as content for 3 months (ignoring Driagoch b/c its a snoozefest with one week locks), then followed with a 5 wing raid where two wings are unbeatable yet to this day (CM), one fellowship sized instance for many months (now we have two) and some small fellowship content - yuck.
For some of you that might be enough, for me it pretty light in the variety department.
Hopefully they'll put out a better product this fall. I would love to hear more about RoR.

But you don't know that, do you? Only Turbine knows what its population figures are. Only [name of whoever it is publishes the other game] knows what its population figures are. And they aren't telling. I assume they don't even tell each other.

The login figures give a pretty good idea. Enough people are transferring to other servers because their servers are deserted. Read the riddermark forum. Of course, this works well for Turbine because instead of doing server mergers themselves, they make money from those effectively carrying out their own server merging by paying to move their toons.

Re: Update 7 teasers required!
Soooooooo... Update 7.
Development is well along and you'll be hearing more about it in the very near future. Probably sooner than you think. For those who have been wanting to see what we're doing in Fornost you'll get your chance in Update 7.
Also, there is no Update 6.2 planned. Update 7 is the next update.

I'm inclined to think that when he said Forochel, he meant Forochel. There are no flies on Sapience.
No, it could have been him misspeaking. We know for a fact that Fornost was taken down for a revamp and that the earliest we'd see the new Fornost in its glory is U7.
I really don't think Forochel needs anything (except maybe adjusting the quest and mob levels downwards slightly - they currently start at L44, which is a bit steep for players fresh from finishing Evendim.).

Well, at least that is more information than his previous answer of "yes"

Well based on your Soonlist I think that 'very near future' and 'sooner than you think' equates with MoorSoonerish.
My guess is 'sooner than you think' means late May to early June.
Also I'm pretty sure he meant Fornost. There's no reason we'd be waiting to hear about the Frozen North, whereas we've been teased about a Fornost revamp already.

Did you really mean Forochel, or did you mean Fornost?
You might as well say "I can damage enemies, sounds familiar."
I could have said that... but didn't. The poster that I was replying to put up a link to show how social interaction is encouraged in GW2....
Then the video basically goes on to show why it is encouraged... Those reasons... which I mentioned in my post are the same for all MMO's. So as far as that video I don't see any "big idea" coming from GW2....

Technically I think "Yes" was Aaron's answer while mine was, "Absolutely, yes."
I'm also happy to have proven that I clearly cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. Or, more accurately, level my Guardian in Forochel while attempting to tease changes to Fornost. Sorry about that. As some of you pointed out,I meant Fornost in my last post and have edited it accordingly. I feel bad about that, because the team has done some great work on Fornost.
As an apology, let me give another tidbit about Update 7.
You should get a look at it late next week on Bullroarer.

Uhhhh, please make mistakes more often so we get more apologies?
