Mithril edition is a box version of the game(disks as opposed to download) so that you can download it a bit faster and cleaner. Also It comes with an account wide horse, Some Turbine Points, and several Quest areas. It is in no way different then your current game, yes you can apply the code to an old account and yes you can play the game with everyone else(it is an mmo after all).
Edit: Changed my wording to avoid some confusion, also as is said below, yes there is a download version(both it and the box version are awesome deals). Which you get largely depends upon your circumstances/needs. If you live in a country with a Internet download limit then the box version may be for you as it will save you from having to download so much data over the Internet. Also, if you have really crummy Internet then this may also be a good choice as It will save you time(my brother went out and bought the box even though he already has the quest packs because he had just gotten a new computer and the download client told him it was going to take 3 days to download and after waiting 24 hours it had not improved so he just went and bought the box for the convenience).

Creeps: None of note ... yet.
as has been pointed out in other threads, the mithril edition also is available as digital download ( = key only) from gamestop.
A gameversion on disk is more or less useless, since mostly you will have a installed client already, and you can copy that around too if you need to transfer the program to a second pc (so the disc is only good as a gift for someone not playing yet).
The Key-only version costs only half, so you get 2000 TP for only 15$, along with a basic horse and three questpacks (nice if you dont have them yet, but still nice since 15$ for 2000 TP is a good deal actually).
How do I attain Mithril edition if I am from New Zealand?
Ok now I know most things about mithril edition I want to buy it. I live in Auckland New Zealand so if I wanted to buy mithril edition where can I buy it? Remember there is no Gamestop store in Auckland New Zealand and is my only option of attaiting Mithril edition shipping it from America?
It depends if you actually want the physical disc at the regular cost, or take advantage of the reduced offer i linked a post above.
If you go for the digital version, you can buy from the online site, you will get the code either per email, or you have to download the gamestop client software to 'download' your key.
I myself live in germany, and was able to buy from the US-based gamestop-website (it asked me if I want to transfer to the german site, which i declined). After buying via credit card (paypal is ok too) i got the key via email..
Ok yes thanks for your help but if I wanted to buy Mithril Edition how much Memory or computer space would it take up on my computer and if I wanted to use Mithril Edition would I always have to put the disc into my computer or would it be binded to my account which would allow me to use it anywhere without the disc? Also Rapunzel would you recomend me to buy the download version or the disc version?
You don't have to install anything new at all, you just have to apply a key code to your account. The game will not change its function at all, you'll just get access to 4 quest packs, add 2000 tp to your account and have an account wide horse.
It is not a separate game, it doesn't change the game in any way, it just unlocks stuff within the game.
I am new to LOTR and joined via the half-price Mithril Edition Offer on Gamestop this weekend ($15).
I used to play Everquest and Asheron's Call back in the day but haven't played any MMORPG since AC2 (which I quite liked actually).
I like the quest system for newbies and have got my Minstrel up to lvl 10 in a few hours play (helped no doubt by double XP for mobs this weekend).
But one thing is driving me up the wall.
One of the key things I bought Mithril edition for was the advertised mount but there doesn't seem to be any way to buy or learn riding so I can use it.
Apparently riding is only 95 TP in the Store (and of course I have the horse itself and 2000 TP's already) but it won't let me buy it.
Do I have to go subscription or wait for whenever I can access a F2P riding quest to get what I assumed was a perk that would be available more or less from the outset? Seems badly thought thru to be honest - very frustrating and certainly not made clear in the advertising..
It is odd that you cannot buy it from the store, does it say why you cannot buy it? Can you see it in the store at all or is it just not there for you? Are you out of the Intro/Completed the Intro Quest?(easiest way to tell this is if you have the little blue gift box in your inventory from the mail that keeps opening at new lvls with new stuff inside it).
Hmm to answer your questions, no you do not need to be VIP(subscription) to get the skill(though that does open up a way to get it free via quest at lvl 20). Yeah about the advertising, Turbine seems to be very bad at having misleadingly vague adverts, just like the VIP advert saying you get all Quest packs if you are VIP with a little * above it leading to a disclaimer about it not including expansions(which confuses many a person).

I actually once did a free trial of the game for 2 days before it was F2P and applied the Mithril Edition to my old account name (although the server and toon are long gone).
It does say this account is a premium one though when I log in, so that doesn't seem to be the issue.
There is just no applicable skill/trait whatever in the store for me - I have no travel things I can buy at all in store apart from extra millstones.
You should be able to buy the riding skill in the store, for 95TPs, which will then allow you to activate the free mount you received with the Mithril Edition. So, when you search on the word "riding" in the store, no 95TP cost riding skill shows up?
Edit-one of my lowbie toons that doesn't have the riding skill had the Steed of the Horse Lords(the Mithril Edition mount) already listed in the mount section of his skills list, it appears that it's one of the few mounts that doesn't require the riding skill. Have you checked your mount skill list to see if it's already there?

When I drag the horse onto my taskbar and try to activate it it says that I need the riding skill, so I don't think I've already got it, no.
I assume it's the 'Travel' section of the Store I should be looking in right?
The easiest way is just search on "riding". You'll get about 3-4 pages of results, most of which will be temp horses, etc. One will be the riding skill.
Edit-Open the store, Travel&Housing, then Travel traits, you should see riding there.

After reading this i decided the Mithril edition sounded like a good deal so i bought the digital dl off gamestop to get the key. However, when i tried to add the key to my account it requires a payment method and makes me pic a subscription plan.
This surprised me. i didn't realize i had to go VIP (even if its just for a month) just to use the Mith edition key. Am i missing something here?

No, you don't have to go VIP. Though it can be confusing. Somewhere on the MyAccount information is an option to use a Game Card or similar wording, choose that option, then choose "add later". That allows you to enter codes without any credit card or other personal info.
Thanks for the fast reply. That seems to have worked. and it seems to have upgraded my account to premium for one month. I guess that must be part of the Mith edition purchase... first month free or some such thing.
Oh one other question and im sorry if I missed this in the thread; but that mount .. is that available for every character I have .. current and future.. or is it just a one time thing that I have pick which character to give it to.
I THINK its all of them but i dont want to give it to one i might delete (i have a few i am playing around with right now to try out but might not keep)

It should be every character, though I can't personally confirm that. This is what's most common... every time I start a new character these days, I have TWO FULL PACKS worth of stuff they're "born" with!

The upgrade to Premium is permanent. There are three levels of accounts for LOTRO:
F2P : accounts where the player has never spent any real-world money for the game (though they might have many features purchased with earned Turbine Points).
Premium : accounts for which Turbine has received some income at some point. You can become Premium in several ways, such as buying points, buying a package such as the Mithril Edition or one of the expansions, or having had a paid subscription at some point in the past. So long as it's something that Turbine got some money for, it counts.
VIP : VIP players have a current paid subscription. They're either paying monthly, quarterly or annually for VIP access or else at some point in the past when it was offered, they paid a few hundred dollars for a lifetime subscription.
Because you paid for the Mithril Edition, your account will now always remain at least Premium.
Advantages of a Premium account over a strictly Free account:
- You gain 1 additional character slot (F2P get 2 per server, Premium get 3, in either case you can purchase more)
- Your gold cap is increased to 5 Gold (compared to a 2 gold cap for F2P characters. Either gold cap can be removed by purchasing gold cap removal from LOTRO Store.)
- You're able to trade and mail gold
- You receive a more lenient anti-spam limitation on chat and in-game mail
- Each of your characters can list up to 5 items at a time in the auction house (can purchase additional AH slots)
- You get a higher priority than free players in the login queue if servers are full
- You get full access to the forums and other community features
- You receive full access to customer service (contacting a GM via in-game support tickets) for 30 days. (This is the only one of these benefits with a time limit. All the others are permanent. Everyone has access to account support, though, through out-of-game support tickets. It's just the in-game GM support that's limited to the next 30 days or to 30 days after any other cash purchases you may make.)

When I tried in game the frist time I must have been too low level. Since then I'd been trying to buy from the login screen.
Tried in-game and worked
Thanx all..
I know this is an old thread by now, but in case anyone else is having the above difficulty, it is because if you access the store through the login window, you can only purchase things which are account-wide. The riding skill is not account-wide, it is only for a particular character. Thus, you must log in to the character for whom you wish to buy the skill. :-D
