I have a slight problem with Orchalwë's quests in Annunimas... I just returned to the game after a few months of absence, and decided to level my hunter again. He just arrived in Annunimas, and picked up Orchalwë's quests...and just like last year, with my champion, I am struggling with some of his quests a lot.
The "optional" ones that pop up when you get to a certain part of the town (honoring the rangers etc.) are easy, but the main ones, killing Gertheryg, burning the banners, flying ranger banners from the monuments are insanely hard for me, sometimes even impossible.
I try to get Orchalwë to aggro the mobs, and try to burn them down, but especially in the center area, where the Gertherygs are, I die over and over and over, either because mobs are linked and attack in groups of two, have very fast respawn rates, or because I get runners joining the fight, or because I get aggro and get killed very very quickly.
Now...am I doing something wrong. My gear is decent, I try to use the right stances, whatever, but since I struggled just as much with my champ, I feel like I am either doing something totally wrong... or like the quests are uncorrectly tagged as "solo" when they should be for a small fellowship.
How would it be possible for me to burn those banners and kill Valtair and all his adds? I know Orch is supposed to help you, like a skirmish soldier, but I have died so often by now, and feel very discouraged.
I am not in a kinship, and havent seen any other players there that I could have tried the quests with, and I am just confused that it says "solo" when I am struggling so much on two different classes.
Is there any advice that would help, other than "find a kinship", or do I have to abandon those quests and move somewhere else?
Thanks in advance!
It's a very difficult area and I on my hunter I just eventually threw my hands up and left for Angmar. It is a very fun set of quests to do with a pair of people, but I'm pretty it's meant to be difficult to solo. The only thing I can suggest from my experience is to make sure you have up to date crit armor, gear and jewelry. Eat your cooked food and trail food. Then kite like there's no tomorrow.
I do not remember these but try going slower if possible. You can also go somewhere else for a level or 2 and come back to it. Some quests are very hard, and some quests are difficult for some types of classes. These escort quests are often quite difficult and anything you can do to slow down the NPC or get a moment to heal out of combat is a huge bonus, so try to control the waves and pulls so you have a moment to rest, if you can.

I was able to eventually get all those quests done, but struggled with one of the banner-burning quests where you fight like 4 guys at once. I think that's the Valtair one you mentioned. Eventually I gave up trying to fight them and used my LM skills to root them and burned the banner while they were stuck. You said you're a hunter, try using triple-traps to do this.
But yes these are hard quests. I've seen many "fellowship" quests that I could do solo with little trouble, but this was the only "solo" quest I've seen that should really be marked for small fellowship.
They aren't really solo quests. The only class that can do them fairly easily is a Burglar due to stealth. Other classes really need a group.
It's possible to run through most of the mobs and out on to the bridge to the island - you should be able to outdistance all the mobs. There's several quests that popup in that area and some are possible solo.
The only character I could finish that quest was with my Guardian and it took me a loot of time. What I did was lure the mobs one by one (or a few together) to that safe place where you get the quests and let the defenders kill the mobs. When the low first area is clean proceed with the next. To get into the last (back) place you should try to do it by the right side.
I doubt that you can do it with a hunter though. You could try to find a fellowship. In my opinion this quest should be made less hard for soloing.
The big trick is to wait until the Rangers attack that courtyard with the getheryg trolls - if you follow them you can help them with the trolls and angmarim, just stay behind them and let them aggro - if you help them enough they will kill their way all the way to the boss at the top of the stairs by the monument - that should help you get some getheryg kills and plant the banner - most of the other banners you can go up to if you creep around along walls without having to fight a whole lot.
As for getting Getheryg kills, if you don't want to try to solo them with Orcalwes help, you can often pull one to some rangers and have them help you out.
Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who replied!
Those answers do help me, because it seems as if I am not the only one who struggles with those quests, and I will probably move on to Angmar indeed.
@Traur: I did not notice that the rangers attack the inner court...I take it that doesnt happen very often? I spent a lot of time there, and didn't see any attack, so next time I get to log in, I will try to see that. it seems as if that could be the key, moving in with those rangers =)
I did manage to kill a few of the trolls solo... I carefully pulled them one by one, actually being glad that the NPC didn't run to them right away to fight them, otherwise he would have pulled more mobs. I wasn't sure whether I was intended to wait for respawns after killing the two trolls in the courtyard. =)
So before I move on to Angmar, I will try to wait for a "ranger invasion" and try to help with that, hopefully taking me through the whole inner area.
Thank you, EVERYONE in this thread, your answers help me a lot, and I really appreciate you took the time to answer my q!

I think it happens once per hour every hour approximately, it is a random occurence.
One thing I wanted to point out though: You mentioned that one could pull those trolls a bit to have the NPC rangers help you kill them. I am not sure whether that works, because: When I kept dieing, at some point, I managed to aggro one of the trolls again. So I was close to killing him when suddenly, another troll was aggroed, and came running.
I pulled them both out of the areas, getting close to the rangers. They DID help me, but once they started hitting the trolls, those became tagged, so I didnt get credit for it. I dont remember if both did get "NPC tagged"...I had brought one down to about 15%, the other was at like 80 or so.
So I dunno if getting the NPCs involved works, or whether there is some code in place to prevent that, tagging the trolls so you dont get credit... =)
Thanks again, everyone, I really am grateful for all the replies!
When I'm stuck on something hard I go grab a couple levels and come back. If it's still tough after leveling I'd blow some marks and bring my herbalist with me.

I don't remember them getting NPC tagged when I ran through but it has been a while so I could be wrong.
