The beach on the Barandalf in Evendim is my favourite spot in the game. Don't know why. It just is.
Some of the arguably best spots - Angmar, for looking and feeling like what that kind of evil should look and feel like. Even the sun hides when it's over Angmar. Annuminas because it's such a perfect portrayal of a decaying and war-torn occupied city and you can see how grand it must have been. Mirkwood, which has a wonderfully creepy evil vibe, and that's what it is.
I really like the Lonelands at night, the stars seem brighter and it reminds me of West Texas where I used to go camping. Also, I love Forochel for it being so different and the northern lights. Evendim is really pretty and I liked Eregion.
And I thought that I was the only one who loved the Lone Lands. There's just something about the scenery there that looks extra-realistic. I especially like the views from high places.
I really like Bree-land just because it's such a large area with so much to do in so many places, though I am disappointed that the NE and NW corners of the maps are so rarely traveled. I think there's only a quest or two that even takes you into those areas (plus deeds), but that is one more aspect of the appeal for me...there are spots in Bree-land that are very rarely traveled.
Next up would probably be North Downs, again because there is simply so much to do there with many quest hubs. There are a lot of different sorts of scenery/topology and a fair few out of the way places.
Ditto with Trollshaws...its' beautiful there, and the contrast between the high moors and the rest of the area is great. Once again, I love the out of the way places. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to wander and get lost in, and then you'll find something unexpected like Bilbo's Trolls. That was a great surprise! I can remember spending loads of time in the ruins to the north killing undead for page drops. For some reason I don't think that people go there much anymore, either.
For the architecture, it would have to be Moria, hands-down.
The only negative thing that I can say about most of the zones (aside from getting sick of the gloom and dark in Moria, from time to time) is that repetitiveness. After running 7 different characters through the starter zones I've gotten a bit sick of doing the same quests over and over again. I'd really like it if, somehow, there could be some new starter zones in a way that fits in with the lore. Of course that would mess with the epic quest line, but I'd really love a new place to start over and begin discovering things from scratch.
Although every area of LOTRO is visually excellent and immersive, my favorite places are the original zones in Eriador before the game went deed crazy. I like the simplicity and enjoyment of being able to quest, explore, complete deeds, and feel a sense of accomplishment by the time I log off. For this reason, I've played many alts but I usually delete them sometimes before or during Moria due to all the uncompletable deeds I encounter in the newer zones of the game.
Well, actually I do love some of the regions in game. I think Evendim, Forochel, and the Shire are my favorites. Evendim has a sense of grandeur and ancient nobility evoked by the tall, stone ruins and the city of Annuminas. Forochel has awesome northern lights, shimmering snow, and a magnificent bay... and ice-skating lossoth you can knock down.
The shire has hobbits. It's light and peaceful and there are fun loving and nosy hobbits, pies, letters, and places like Bag End and Tuckborough!
Did you really think this signature would be worth reading?
No but srsly my favorite region would probably have to be the Trollshaws. It's absolutely beautiful, and despite the lack of quests to level through it, I always enjoy riding through, and it was my favorite region to just explore (ps I miss fog of war please bring it back)
My favorite region overall is The Shire. The rolling hills are beautiful. I love the silly story-lines. I definitely have a preference for Hobbits though because every class I have that CAN be a Hobbit IS a Hobbit.
For questing, Eregion is probably my favorite. Very smooth progression, quick leveling, great rewards, all in a nice-looking zone. Plus you have the excitement from the Fellowship starting off on their journey.
For aesthetics, Trollshaws wins out. It's just the most beautiful region in game, hands down. Such a shame that the quests are so choppy and cumbersome.
For instances, Moria 6-mans are the best! Even after running them over and over ad nauseam.
Leveling group on Brandywine W,Su 8:30-10:30pm EST (current level: 39)
The Shire : great athmosphere, just as you imagined it from the books.
Eregion : smooth questing and levelling, getting your LI, nice landscape
North Downs is nice also, as is Forochel and Evendim.
My favorite region would be Eregion. I find it to be the most beautifully built landscape in Lotro, with probably the best quests in the game, as well.
Note: Don't talk about ones you don't like, just your favorite zones. This includes instances, if you feel so inclined.
Agree with that. Enedwaith too.
I have a soft spot for the Shire and Bree. They were designed a LONG time ago and so you kinda have to picture what they would have made with today's graphics. When I first rode from Bree to Tresslebridge and hit The Great Orange Gorge just before TBridge, I stopped and looked around... (this was a while ago mind you) and said to myself "For the first time ever, I feel like I'm actually there."
Typically as a Hobbit should, I'd have to vote Shire!
But going off my past experience in-game I would have to say that Moria is my favorite region. It might be dark and cramped and chock filled with mobs on every side!
But it's true to the books in that sense and it Turbine have done a wonderful, commendable job on the design of the entire area. The architecture is beautiful and the story is something I look forward to everytime I run an alt through
It's about dwarves being totally badass in the face of uneven odds! Suicidal but bloody commendable

I tend to like variety, so whichever region I haven't been to in a while. I pretty much like them all (except for Foundations of Stone - that's a major pain). But if I had to pick a few favorites:
The Shire will always be a favorite just from the atmosphere.
I always have liked Evendim especially the area northwest of the lake - reminds me of Lake Tahoe.
I love everything about Moria, especially the instances - very well thought out, and great atmosphere
Hands down, it would be Ered Luin. Especially the Elven parts, such as Duillond and Celondim. The whole region is nice though. Especially, when it's raining. Rain is just stunning in Duillond.

For Moria, I think The Flaming Deeps is my favorite. I like the color and atmosphere there. Nice little break from the dark halls of some of the other regions in Moria. Smooth leveling as well, unlike The Water-works.
Well, yes I agree it is one of my favorites, but no it does not look like New Hampshire. That's the part by Tresslebridge I meant.
Eregion is very cool with its wide open expanses and beautiful green, pruple and blue colors. Ededwaith is also cool because of how varried it is, but has a LOT of rises and gullies that block the views.
Ered Luin hands down. Aside from the elves being there, it reminds me of so many places where I grew up that it's uncanny. Especially the lands around Gondamon. I especially like getting there at night with a drifting of snow coming down and the coming dawn on the horizon. I've sat and watched the sunrise a number of times. I can almost taste the clean air and feel the nip of frost on my nose!

Dunno what you're talking about New Hampshire and Trestlebridge for. Did you quote the wrong person? :0
Favorite part in the book, the movie and (after a few tries) favorite zone in the game as well. The epic quest is pretty intense, I've always wanted to know "what happens next?" unlike the rather boring first books *yawn*.
You feel the love the desiners put into every little stone and every floortile as you walk throught the mines of moria.
Ditto Khazad-Dûm / Moria. The game designers absolutely delivered the awesome scale, challenge and adventure that I grasped from the books. My first toon looked forward to Khazad-Dûm and was not disappointed, and the arrival of each of my toons at the entrance (to complete the initial LI quest) is probably their most anticipated moment
Hm, given how well I know the place now, with my next character to enter (guard, nearly there) I may turn my ambient lighting back down to fully experience Khazad-Dûm in the full threat of its true darkness.
Here's hoping the designers can equally match my expectations for Fangorn proper (my most favourite place in the books).
Moria, big time. It is one of the most impressive places I have ever seen in my days of gaming.
I have the entire Moria soundtrack on my phone. That place rocks. The music fits in with that place perfectly.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

Forochel. I love the northern lights and the place just gives a way better "winter feeling" than the Misty Mountains. I'm from Finland and since most of the names in Forochel are variations from the Finnish language I've definitely had some good laughs there. It's hilarious to see NPC's who share the same names with my real-life friends, and by the time I had explored the whole region I had seen pretty much all of my friends' names there.
When I first entered Moria I didn't like it that much but have started to love it now as all mobs are grey and I can just wander around exploring places.
If based on just the landscape then my other favorite would be Lothlórien, it's just so beautiful there especially after the orc camps when it suddenly turns to autumn.

Just the other day I saw this Hobbit by the Brandywine saying that people can drink ale from other inns but they might as well drink from the river.
I love this game.
Couldn't agree more, I also love the one near Waymeet who's going to move to Michel Delving someday and leave it all behind

I made a post about how I agreed with you, right?
I also said other things about other regions, like tresslebridge. Then, you asked me a question that was really really vague and I was unsure what you were asking. So I clarified my earlier post.
Go back and look at your question after my first post and tell me what you were asking.
The whole tresslebride v new hampshire thing was from my first post and was just part of the conversation in case you were asking if I thought Eregion looked like NH.
What does it mean that almost no one has a favorite area in one of the later areas that came out after Mirkwood? Just wondering - I haven't seen anything after Loth, but wondering why no one has said they really like a more recent area.
For me, probably Moria and Waterworks - but don't really have a favorite.
All the original areas still stand up as being beautifully designed, plus Evendim and Forochel. All still great just to run around in. You can see the care and attention the devs put into it wherever you look. Moria has some beautifully designed parts, but it's not really my thing. Post Loth, it looks more and more like the areas have been thrown together and tacked on, adequate enough, but totally missing the attention to detail that made the original areas so great to explore.
I recently went back and had a look at the weatherhills norths of Bree. There isn't a whole lot quest wise or gamewise to be done there, but the landscape and integration into other areas is still top notch.

Never mind. I thought by you saying "I also like Enedwaith," that meant that you were agreeing with what I said, but I never said I liked Ened. It's my fault.
The Shire is still my favourite, as it has been since the beginning. It has just the right feel, and I love the touches of humour and the touches of lore. I grin everytime I go through Waymeet and a villager says "One of these days I'm going to give all this up and move to Michel Delving." And after battling through Rushgore and the Brown Lands I wander through Budgeford and hear "I'm having an adventure! I've paddled all the way from Frogmorton!" and a warning to get out of the stream for fear of drowning... and I've swum across Lake Evendim innumerable times! And then someone near Town Hole mentioning the Mayor's worried about a troublemaker from Hobbiton, and then we see him being sneaky in Budgeford and Brockenborings.
Brilliantly crafted! This is what we're fighting for!
Moria's an amazing piece of design work, and I commend the artistic team, but I wouldn't want to live there. Maybe if my main were a dwarf...
