Thread: One vs One Tourney

I was thinking it was time for Arkenstone to have another one of these. I think it would be nice to have it structured into fights though. I think we could do it round robin type tourney with 2 losses and your out. However to make things fair i thought that a "loss" or "win" would be best 2 out of 3 fights back to back. This to me would lessen people just waiting on big cool downs to fight.
The challenge would be how do you structure the fights before hand. I would need people to sign up then draw names randomly or something to pick who fights who? Anyones ideas on how to make this work are welcome.
I would need someone or a couple people to coordinate creep side with me and to help with getting prizes. I know prizes creep side are hard to come by and even more so now. I could just make a big prize pool on freep side and if the creep is a winner they get the prizes on freep side.
Have we had enought time to allow people to get all their audacity back what sort of time frame would people like to see for this to happen or is their even any interest?
Please state which toon if you post that you would wanna participate with.
Example: Participating with Level 75 Champion Derlan

Most likely I wont be able to attend dependant on the time the event is being run, for example I couldn't attend the last tournament because it was on a weekday and at 1am for myself... And so if it was in the afternoon (2-5pm ?) est Id be more than capable to attend but Im sure that time may not be suitable for the majority on a Saturday afternoon.

Who knows I may be able to come along... so Participating (Possibly) with a level 75 Rune-keeper named Legona


If it goes ahead Ill throw in a mystery amount of GOLD into the prize fund, provided there is a good turn out with a variety of classes attending.

Sounds cool, I only have 3/6 of the audacity set but I'll still do 1v1s, don't really have anything to donate to the prizes though.

How about you run it over a few weeks with each round open for a few days and you schedule your fight within that window and if a fight doesn't happen you pick a winner at random. That way people with limited times to play can work out a time they can make.

Thats an interesting thought. If people know who they gotta fight could have a 24 hour window to get the fight in or something.

Too many op faceroll easymode god classes on freepside atm with every kid in Mrs. Smiths 4th grade math class playing a fotm giggling every time they crit over 5k

Does seem like a bad time in the game's development cycle to have one of these. I wouldn't show up if I were a Creep, just like I wouldn't expect other Freeps to show up if every spar had to be against a warg pack. This is supposed to be fun, not a point farming session.

Minstrels are the only class i see dominating, every other class has a counter to it, if you will.

But then again its not fair to exclude one class :P

My guess is that most creeps would scoff at the idea of a 1v1 tourney the way things are right now.

While I agree that the minstrels have the upper hand I'll gladly participate (on Metro and Yummy) and will even put up prize money for both creep and freepside. I'm willing to put up 20 gold for freepside and 5 gold on the creepside (Alas, money on creepside is much harder to procure). Good job Derlan on proposing a change of pace.

I've been lazy but I will be starting a thread to host ideas for fun events in the Moors. I think we can make it more fun that it currently is. Just takes a little work and some imagination.

No minstrel has spoken up yet to say they will be there. There will be plenty of other classes to fight.

+rep. Excellent point and reason as to why there really aren't any interested creeps. No one wants a sanctioned farming session.

Well here's the thing. Most people know how much I enjoy 1v1s, whether set up or just happen by chance. It's how I got a lot of my rank. I love tournaments and how it breaks it down to your skill with your class without being able to rely on anyone else. With that said, I have always done my best to make it fair. I don't trait for tanking/healing (unbeatable), I play DPS to try and make it a fair fight about skill and damage rather than OP/broken class mechanics. As much as I do like 1v1s, the thrill for me is not knowing what will happen. That's the whole point of PvP I think, I like not knowing what is going to happen. If I wanted to sit and farm something with a guaranteed outcome I would PvE, which I do a lot of the time.

It's not their fault (Minstrels) even if they are just playing the FOTM. It's human nature, it's always going to happen. To me, it's just at the point of not being fun because of that predictability. I'm sure people will still show up and I hope it's fun for them and there aren't too many Minstrels, but this just isn't a good time for this kind of thing IMO. Like Daec said you can't really ban a class so you're kind of stuck if they decide to show up (I guess you could, it's your tourney!). I would prefer not to do it right now, because it is pretty much guaranteed points for any Minstrel that decides to show up and that's not much of a tournament. With the way this certain class is "balanced" against all the others (of both sides) right now, I think this could cause a lot more problems and anger than it being a "nice change of pace".

Hrrm its a fair point. We considered limiting the number of each class thats able to participate. Are minnies really the end all and be all? I spar Tst sometimes and he has 7 aud and i have 1 and still fair ok on the dog. I give a decent fight. Where the rest of creep classes stand I havent a clue. Keep in mind some fights will be creep vs creeps and freep vs freep if it works out how I want with their only being one winner. I personally dont think creeps are giving themselves a fair shake down but thank you for all that offered up opinions. You may never have to face a minnie and still win the contest. I know for a fact my champ destroys minnies in spars so if people beat out the minnies it may be interesting.
Remeber this is going to be structured not just a FFA.

Fun spectator sport - make the minstrels fight each other. Loser donates points to the creeps :-)

I'd have to agree with most here in that a well played/geared minstrel shouldn't have any problem cleaning up. But I'd go a step further in that a well played/geared champ/warden/rune keeper will be pretty unbeatable as well. Just too many tools at their disposal to keep from dying.

Nice idea, but not a good time in the cycle in my opinion. If it does happen though, I plan on *watching* - not participating.

A champ as I can speak from that stand point would definetly be hard to beat. However spiders do very well against them. My hope was that it being a best 2 outta 3 fights that you would need to be careful when to use cooldowns. Also it was my hope that creeps would have a better chance in 2 outta 3 for a win fights. How do creeps feel on that particular aspect? Think 2 outa 3 for a "win" is a good idea? I know for a fact I can't beat a good reaver, blackarrow, and warg with out using some form of cooldowns. (if they have 7 audacity)

I agree that best 2 out of 3 lends itself to a "fairer" result in the win category. Curious if you plan to have observers for the fights and whether store pots/items will be banned or allowed.

there can be alot of arguments but store #### should never be allowed

just say minnies and defliers can only fight each other and be done with it

i might be interested depending on the format. i think the main problem is class mismatches a lot of them are auto-wins, and that isn't much fun.

something like 4v3 (4 creeps versus 3 freeps) or 5v4 might be cool too, with caveat that neither group can have more than one of any class.

Its going to stay a one vs one tourney I have no desire to host a group tourney, though I would consider participating in a group tourney if someone else hosted.

everyone always asks for a group turny but no one is willing to orginize they're own groups get a few groups and I'll do a group turny, and by few I mean at least 4 on each side.

A suggestion althow not as apealing as fighting the enemy do a spar turny, same style you ahd but freepvfreep and creepvcreep do it over a couple days. not as good but still some differnet pvp with a nice reward.

As I have in the past, I'll attend. I always welcome the hard mode challenge. I went 5-8 last spar tourny back when flaky hosted it... and that was before WL updates... My audacity sits at a whopping rank 2 though... but hey, you can feel that much worse about things, if I beat you.
