I have not had any luck yet. But I will keep trying every day. I need those mounts on my main character.
Tried the quest on all nine characters today, and the best I got was a few Anniversary Tokens. Will hope for better luck tomorrow.
Do the mounts come from both the flying envelopes and the envelopes lying on the ground?
Funny, if turbine had made the mount BoA then I would have gladly paid $$$ to unlock shared storage.
Oh wellz, guess i'll be using that $$$ to pre-purchase a certain mmo which i won't mention here.
An item that's bound to one character can be stored in Shared Storage, but cannot taken out of it by another character.
If you have a house, you can see this in action. The housing chests are shared storage as well. Any char can put stuff in them but bound items can only be taken out by the original owner.

No, they're bound to character. I have a guard alt, wish I liked the playstyle more. This toon wins horses, he's supernaturally lucky at it. Mount month - all of them, multiple times, couldn't give away the extras to my other toons. Several Perlinos, same deal. So I took him to the contest, it being the foregone conclusion that he'd get a Duskwatch in his first envelope and a Lossoth in his second. He did.
One of my champs also won two Lossoths in his first two envelopes, my hunter won one, my burg got one, too. One of my minis and my captain both got the toast emote. My poor other champ who never wins *anything* is still striking out though.

My Champ won the Lossoth Steed on is first mail. On the third, he won the Steed of Dusk whatever. On the fourth, he won the steed of dusk again. Won 3 horses in one go lol.
I really don't want to throw the second Steed of Dusk___ away... but I have to as I cannot trade it

And the horses and emotes are won as skills, not objects, so they couldn't be put in storage anyway. The only way to store them would be if the envelopes were marked some way (after they're in the inventory bag, of course) to show that there was something interesting in them. Like maybe envelopes with horses or emotes could be blue or with a frame around them. So an unopened envelope could be passed to another character. If they weren't BOA, though, I could see them flooding the AH and destroying the spirit of the festival. Just thinking out loud!
They aren't bound to account, I think everyone would be happy if they were. They're bound to *character*. Extra steeds if you win two of the same one, take up an inventory space - you have to destroy it since you can't pass it on to another toon.

I was referring to the idea of marked envelopes, unopened, being BOA. The extra horses would have to go into the skills panel (wouldn't they? I haven't won two on the same character) or automatically be destroyed, since the show up as skills, not objects. I don't think they go into the inventory bag.

No, they actually do go into inventory bags - I've won two or more horses enough times. If you don't have the riding skill, the horse goes into an inventory slot in your bag. If you already have that particular horse, it also goes into a slot in your bag, and all you can do is destroy it.

This is not quite right. If you already have a Lossoth or Dusk-watch skill or if you don't have the riding skill, you get an bound horse token in your bag. I posted a screenshot of it in one of these threads.
For the emote, there is a way to get it to drop as an unbound object, but I don't know what that way is. I know it's possible because I bought the emote on Riddermark, it sat in my bag as the object, and then gave the emote when I clicked on it. There were three on the Auction Hall on Thursday. The method is a mystery to me, though: I've gotten three duplicates among the 30ish characters I've been running the envelope quest for, and each of them got absorbed without giving me a chance to pass it to another alt or auction it.

For the first part, yes I was corrected on that point. And for the emote, maybe it was won on the "Splodin' and Emoting" Lottery running this week. I won a dance emote in that lottery, and I think it was sent as an item since I got it in the mail.

Ah, that would make sense -- I won those on two different chars. I didn't see a lottery that offered the /toast emote, but I don't check it frequently.
In the first two days my main got the Warden horse and the toast emote. After that I haven't gotten anything but anniversary tokens on all 6 of the characters I have been running though there.
I loved this quest at first when I got a horse on my first day on an alt I never played, and looked forward to getting one on my main. But as we creep towards the end of the festival I'm getting more and more anxious, not to mention jealous of those who are luckier. Having done the quest everyday on my main with nothing good dropped is quite frustrating. Seeing 75% of the level 10s riding around in Bree on a better horse than me does not help. If I don't find one by the last day of the festival I think I'll have to just walk away right then and not touch the game for a few months. I can't afford a new monitor right now.

Here's an idea that's just crazy enough to work... STOP ENTERING THAT CHARACTER SO US LESS FORTUNATE LOSERS CAN HAVE A CHANCE AT WINNING A HORSE!!!!!!!
Sheesh. ALL weekend and all I get on 5 characters are 4 anniversary tokens and a toast emote on my hunter, the char I want the mount for. Last 5 tries on the hunter alone were invitations on 6/6 opened envelopes in a row. I'm cursed, I know it. EVERY time I start an MMO, for some odd reason, my account gets drop bugged and gets practically jack. But I digress and am just ranting for the want of winning a horse for a change.
Got the warden steed on my main. Peralda is very happy- matches her dress and current mood-<blast that Falcon Clan>- perfectly
I just ran it, when i was logged on and it was off cool down, and, after 3 -4 cycles there was an 'orse in the honvelope Best random win ever, particularly as my only other win on this character was the lootbox with a key in side LOL.
Calta
seems to me to drop as often as the lootboxes did on the weekend when they dropped 'more frequently'-anecdotally speaking, of course

I believe I know how: the auto-grant fails if you're doing something when it fires. If you're opening envelopes, make 2+ separate stacks of envelopes. Click the first, then quickly click the second while the first's progress bar is going. If the first drops an auto-granting thing (/toast emote or horse), the auto-grant will fail because you've started opening the second. You may see the "You're too busy to do that" error -- "that" is the auto-grant failing.
I suspect one might safely detach a /toast emote from a mail, say after buying one from the AH, by using a channel skill or something with a long induction -- hunter's Focus or lm's Sticky Tar, reading a recipe, or even crafting -- and make sure you press Detach while the progressbar is going. The timing is important -- the emote should hit your inventory while your skill/craft is happening. You might even want to queue up a couple of actions if possible.

So a quick question and sorry if this has been asked, I couldn't find anything on it.
Is the Lossoth steed you get in the envelopes the rep steed you can buy from them or is it a new one? I "collect" mounts in game and would rather not try for a mount I already own.

No, it's not the same one. The Lossoth Steed (and the Dusk-watch one, which turns into 'Warden's Steed' if you're a more reasonable height than a Man or Elf) can at present only be attained through the envelope quest.
I got the Lossoth Steed and the toast emote twice, both times on my main, so I lost the second ones. Nothing on any of the other 3 chars besides anniversary tokens. Been running this on 4 chars since this thing began. I'm a fairly new player, so don't have many alts, so maybe by the time they run this again next year, I'll have more alts by then and better chances. I am happy about having a 68% steed and the cool emote on my main though.

LOL - I have so many toons and there are frequently multiple lotteries at once - it's hard to scroll through and exclude him! Believe me, if I could, I would. After he opened his first two envelopes in the quest, I took him home - didn't even finish it for fear he'd end up with six horses.
You know, it's random but it's not. I have toons who win a lot of things, this guy's thing is horses (and hey, I did break down and pay the 95 TP so I could see all those horses - he didn't have riding skill). I also have toons who win nothing. Ever. You may have the same experience.
My champ who never wins anything continues to not win - while his twin has both horses and the toast emote. You know how bad the sibling rivallry gets between those two??? I may break my own rule and buy him a Steed of the Champion, as he deserves a fast horse too, and I just can't bear to see him go through another day of unwanted messages and lost invitations.
This may end up being yet another thread on the nature of randomness.
If something is truly random, then clusters will exist. "Random" is pretty much the exact opposite of "evenly distributed." So yes, it will appear that there are lucky characters and unlucky characters.
Some people seem to be confusing this quest with the lotteries. I seriously doubt that a character winning the same steed multiple times opening envelopes has any effect on the chances of other characters winning that steed. It's all pure random, nothing more. A lottery is different in that only X number of winners are chosen from the pool of those who enter, so a char winning something there that they can't use actually does deprive someone else from getting it.

This guy's original purpose in life was to wander around the Shire, stopping at pubs and telling everybody about his adventures in far Haran (Teddy, pssst, it's Harad!) and the lions and oliphaunts and all the other exotic wildlife he killed there. Now he's got all kinds of exotic horses to - somewhat - back up his claim. I still don't believe him, though, I doubt he's been farther away from home than Bree-land.
I can't even enter flash lotteries - the site just logs me out and won't take me to the page, and that's been going on since forever. That's frequently the only way I know they're happening. But outside of him and mounts - and at this point I do it just because I'm so fascinated by his bizarre winning streak - eh. I don't think anyone is being deprived by it.
it's random, now if I could only win some horses on more than one toon!!! Have won 3 of the same horse on one toon and not a single one on my other characters!!

Could be - or perhaps it could be like the scenario somebody (Yula? Sapience?) retailed recently about how in another MMO there was a meme about characters that randomly seemed to get too much aggro. It eventually turned out that there was indeed a defect in the algorithm that had to do with the database ID of the character, and sure enough it did result in too much aggro for the unlucky few.
So maybe it's random that my lowbie characters (especially the ones without riding skill) have gotten the majority of my envelope steeds and my 75s have gotten shut out... or maybe it's not. I'm guessing random... but who knows?
I just wish that the horses grant would be bound to account, yesterday I actually got the lossoth steed on the same character during the same quest run 2nd + 4th letter opening.
Of course the second time I won it it's completely useless on the character as i can't use it and it just clutters up inventory whereas my other characters could really use it. If the treasure hunt emotes were bind to account why can't the horse grants

Yes, the Treasure Hunt emotes were bound to account, and the Toast emote is even better since it's tradable. In both Treasure Hunt and Anniversary, mounts are bound on acquire.
Like everyone else I'd love to be able to send my spare mounts to alts that need them, but I know it will never happen. The reason for this is because Turbine sells them for $20 each in the store, and it would be a very foolish thing for them to make it easy for every alt to get one.
I don't think the horses from this quest should be bound to account for a few reasons and I speak as somebody who would benefit greatly if they were as I have 11 alts and don't have the specific horse I want on a specific character.
Emotes are pure fluff, mounts, and particularly THESE HIGH STAT mounts are not fluff especially when you stick a low level character on a 250 morale +68 speed mount. I'm kind of surprised that the high stat mounts are available this way and via the treasure hunt but, no matter, they're here and I'm enjoying the ones I've got so far. If the mounts were bound to account then you are giving people with lots of alts on an account a huge advantage over people with just one or two because they'd just keep running the envelope quest till they get the mounts then forward them to their desired alts. You could almost do a kind of exploit by rolling lots of little alts (if you had space) just for the purpose of trying to win mounts for your bigger serious alts. I'd have less of a problem with them being bind to account if they were low stat fluff as people would still desire them as collectables and something to use in safe areas (think the original white painted skeleton steed from the Haunted Burrow).
Yes, it's frustrating winning duplicates or winning on the "wrong" character but why not be happy with what you have won instead of worrying about what you haven't? These are something for nothing after all (unless you bought extra badges via the store) from a quest which gives a prize every time even if it's just 2 anniversary tokens. Even the unwanted messages can be sold as trash to NPCs.
