Hobbit. A society that supports heavy eating, smoking pipes, drinking, and parties just cannot be beat.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
Oh tough question.
Elf.
With the following provisions. I want to be one of the Noldor that came to Middle Earth. I want to have lived through every age and sailed away on the last ship.
Why?
Elves are unconcerned with the affairs of men (generally). They are super powerful (see Glorfindel, who fought off the nine and once killed a Balrog!). They are haughty at times, but LOVE a good party. They never sleep and can LIVE in their meditative memories. They can be cruel to the point of actually becoming evil (see Feanor). They never get sick, are immune to mortal poisons. They dress fancy.
The only other race I can honestly dig (pun intended) is Hobbit. Food. Gossip. Pastoral life. It's a huge huge decision. I guess if I failed Elf School, my safety school would be Hobbit U. Goooooo Woodckucks!!!

Which would you pick and why?
Man? No i'm no kings son so i would be treated poorly, elves would shoot me, dwarfes chase me and hobbits curse at me. Dem rangers would be suspicious.
Hobbit? During war of the ring? No thanks. The sacking and plundering while not having suffice arms and an army to stand against them. (as well as poor food) urgh
Dwarf? I like my woman without beard.
Elf? Most certainly at least as an elf i wouldn't have been forced to be a peasants life or rotting in a cell for "trespassing" certain free people landscapes.

Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
Let's see...
Man -- been there, done that. It's not all it's cracked up to be.
Hobbit -- I've got enough hair on my feet and hands now, I don't want more!
Elf -- can't handle a race where the men are "prettier" than the women.
Dwarf -- can't handle a race where you can't tell the difference between the men and the women.
Tough choice!
Have to go with dwarf just because they are more akin to my personality!! In any game where there is a dwarf option, I play a dwarf. They've got "sass".

I never got that... They get smashed on wine (per The Hobbit), but they toss back beer like water in the Jackson movies?!? Makes me wonder if they're gonna show the drunk elf scene in the upcoming movie...
As for the question, real tough call... I'd get bored off my rocker in a Hobbit's life, and Elves just seem too bipolar (singing and joking one minute, all gloomy and sad the next). I guess it comes down to Men, since I can't imagine living underground most of my life. Maybe a Beorning. Or an Easterling. You get to be outside without all the pomp and ceremony of the Eorlings.
Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
I'd be a hobbit. My other personality/alt would be an elf. If I wasn't allowed to have an alt, I'd be an elfbit: A semi-immortal, short stout being who wouldn't stop eating and drinking, would never get drunk, and would live half of forever.
Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
If I wanted to smoke, be fat, drink or party... I'd do it IRL
I'd want to become an Elf. Probably an Elf in Beleriand valiantly leading his countrymen against Morgoth. If I'd wanted the comforts of regular life, I'd be wasting my time in Middle-Earth. Just like I'm wasting my time on Earth as well

Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
Need more information.
In particular I would want to see Dwarf women and Entwives before I can make a decision...
Then there is the issue of food. Of course hobbits care most about it. What if they ended up getting accustomed to making it way too rich and inedible for everybody else like american food?

That's what's nice with Elves... they can smoke, drink and party without every getting fat, sick, or ruining their liver... you can basically party through the ages without negative consequences...

Lorien elf maid. I wish. You know what, this is actually inspiring. I was looking for a new direction in life. Maybe I need to become a hippy, drink tea, sit around and read poetry, and try to ignore the distraction of slowly going grey and dying.

I'm not sure if humor was your intent, but at the risk of offending this made me laugh!!! (not because you are turning grey and dying, but how you just drop that note in at the end)
Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
Dwarf for sure!
So I would be one of the very rare dwarven ladies Would have braids in my long beard and long hair.
I would be a tourist guide for all the elves, men and hobbits who still get lost in Moria I love the straight and clear lines of our dwarven buildings! And maybe I would show some of the snoobish male elves where they can complete the Blind Leaper, with a pat on the back

Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
Hobbit: Partying, simple life, pastoral... but there are nosey hobbits and neighbors and relatives.
Elf: Long lived, disease immune, wise... but they have to leave middle-earth or fade.
Dwarf: Tough, master of metal and stonework, wealthy... but they tend to be greedy and well, the women are hairy.
I'd have to go with man, and specifically, Dunedain/Dunedain of Gondor. I think it would be cool to be a Dunedain noble or knight or Tower Guard and fight and win against the dark armies of Mordor and live in big, shiny castles.
Did you really think this signature would be worth reading?
Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
Elves live to long. D:
Why would you choose human if you could be something other than that?
Dwarves drink too much, and I don't want a beard, 'cause I'm a female.
That leaves me Hobbit. <3 NOT ONLY ARE THEY AWESOME, THEY'RE AWESOME!
They eat 6 meals aday with snacks in between, and I love to eat.
They live in hobbit-holes. (My dream home.)
They have the best last names out of every race in Middle-earth.
The Shire is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
And come on, Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit, and he's awesome!
So, I'd love to be a hobbit.
And I am in-game, so that makes it even better!

Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
I have to say elf; I've been fascinated by them ever since I saw the first LOTR movie 10 years ago, especially after the Lothlórien scene. Elves don't need to suffer with all the problems and pain we have to go through. Plus all elves seem to be tall and thin, which is pretty much the opposite to what I've always been, lol.

Agreed! Hobbit would be my 2nd choice, especially after exploring the Shire in LOTRO
Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
I guess it'd depend on the timeframe. If during times of war, I'd probably choose Hobbit just to stay away from it as much as possible.
If during more peaceful times...hobbits are still a very desirable option, no doubt. I think I'd go for a dwarf, though, to see and live in their wondrous mountain-halls. Also, speaking as someone who quite likes having a beard, I'd love to be able to grow a giant, beautiful, dwarven beard.
Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
I would pick a hobbit; they like the simple life, and like to party, eat, drink, etc. Plus, I love their height!

Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
I would pick the race of man. Would choose to be living in gondor. I would pick man because I like being one. The only thing appealing about a Hobbit is that they eaat a lot. But they and dwarfs are too short. Elf is just boring being all knowledgable and scholarly plus they don't do that much fighting. I would pick man be in Gondor and be great at sword fighting.
Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
After trying each race, hands down, the Dwarf! They're low to the ground, rock solid, build magnificent structures underground, and throw down awesome beer fights!

You might not like it so well after several thousand years bound to Arda. Tolkien says somewhere that, just as the myths of Men are about the Escape from Death, the myths of Elves are about the Escape from Deathlessness, which only Luthien and Arwen achieved.

Re: You are transported to a real life LOTRO world and must pick between Elf, Hobbit,
I might like to be an Elf. At least then, I'd be tall for once, and I wouldn't get those heebie-jeebies the way I do every time I'm reminded of human mortality. The downside is there's no precedent for elven-maids falling for... erm... other elven-maids, so I'd pretty much only have the arts to keep me occupied.
