Riding - A bit more realistic, angled movement or current version? + adjustable speed

    *****************UPDATE******* ***********
Devs say LotRO's mounted combat got inspiration from RDR and M&B!

    *****************/UPDATE******************

    Hey guys!

The minute I first heard about mounted combat coming to the game, I immediately thought: "wow, this would be the chance to drop the current, instantly rotating horse movements and animations and get a more proper way to handle turning and rotating while riding these animals.

What I'm talking about? Here's a quickly-sketched drawing, featuring the current system and how it should be done:

So, on the left we can see how currently riding is in the game. Basically, you can just turn and rotate your horse immediately to wherever you want. On the right, we can see that you need momentum and speed, and time in order for you to turn, rotate, change direction of movement... much similar to real life.

Other games have done it already, just two quick examples for this:
    WoW, Argent Tournament Jousting:

    Mount & Blade

Many other games could be named, Assassin's Creed, Zelda's Twilight Princess, or Red Dead Redemption.

I'm sure you all see the difference and I think this should be the way LotRO handles mounted combat as well.

I hope to see the above movement techniques and coordination manouvering in the game replacing the current way the game handles movement-change during riding.

What are you thoughts on this?

    BONUS IDEA/SUGGESTION

This would require more animation to be done for horse gaits, but I think the result would worth it.

Adjustable riding speed and gaits by hotkeys or key+mouse scroll wheel.
Currently, using the scroll wheel zooms in and out, what if ctrl+scroll wheel would allow us to adjust riding speed?

A horse would have a normal 100% speed by default, pressing the current "character walk key" would make its speed to the slowest 20% of current top speed.
Then, using for example the "ctrl+scroll wheel up" hotkey, horse would change to trot, canter and gallop as you further scroll with your mouse.

This would not only make riding more awesome, but for RPers it would create a whole new set of opportunities.

What are your thought on these things?

    Cheers,
    Ren
