Thread: Can someome tell me why we are here!?

Hullo Elves, Hobbits, Men, Dwarfs and monsterplayer maggots!

It is 2am in the morning and i am recovering not from a night of drunkeness in the Green Dragon, but a solid two hour friendly debate with a completely random person (you know who you are), this debate was such a good one.. i am now doubting everything i ever knew! Or am i, i am just conforming to a set of emotions... you get the drift

It was such a good debate it has spurred me to ask the question why are we on the [EN-RP] Laurelin server playing LOTRO. Each response i presume will be from an individuals perspective as we are all entitled to express our opinions respectfully as well as respectfully commenting on others.

Before such a high risk post i will say a prayer to the forums gods that all who post here will be safe from trolls.... wait!? Isnt this just a form of intellectual trolling? Or non intellectual depending on how you look at things... Or is debate trolling in its purest form? Ill get back on topic

Question "Why are we on the [EN-RP] Laurelin server playing LOTRO... answer.. if you dare!

I am on Laurelin the Roleplay Server, because the RP here is immersive and much more within the spirit of The Lord of the Rings and Middle-earth..

The wonderful actual RP immersive and lore-based Events such as :

Hall of Fire


Green Dragon


And Events of the past, such as :

The Gathering Storm

Blue Mountains Council

And of course the Laurelin Archives!

All that together, just shows what kind of Roleplayers and a RP community Laurelin has and how they do try and care to create/enrich an immersive all around atmosphere true to the books (as much as that can be possible at least) which makes the game look and feel (for the most part at least) for a roleplayer as the known Middle-earth.
Now i understand why even a developer said that this is the real RP server, back when Turbine took over the EU servers (his words not mine)
And for that kudos!

Because i started on Snowborne and no one talked using the bubble speech option or even in the say channel. So as my character reached the dizzy heights of 20th level i decided started again on Laurelin and have never looked back.

Well, I can say for one I'm not a huge gamer - in fact, LOTRO is the only game I play. So for me, it's easy to say I'm here (on LOTRO) because I love the world Tolkien created. And the reason I'm on THIS server is because the community really immerses you in that world so many of us love. I would never play a game just to level - I personally just don't find that very exciting. I love creating characters and creating their stories which is why I RP

So there you have it: I get to create characters and live out their stories (RP) in a world I'm in love and fascinated with (Middle Earth) in an immersing and friendly community (Laurelin).

I guess that i expected RP server to have more mature community. And obviously since being a bit of a lore-nerd RP server just felt like the right choice!

Well, it used to be the world of Tolkien, but that has now stepped abit back, and the people and the community are my main reason.

Let us keep it that way.

Because the [EN-RP] tag attracted me, it was longer then the other tags! Lotro is my first mmo and i didn't know what those tags meant, other then the commonly used language.

I'm here because Laurelin is a roleplay server and I love roleplay. It's as simple as that. I started on this server and here I'll remain.

because the biscuits are better...and the cream cakes...oh and the buns...oh oh and those jam filled doughy things with cinnamon....and the ale...mustnt forget the ale
but most importantly the people..they are by far the friendliest...and have big larders for lost hungry hobbits

Because i mainly joined to visit a virtual rendition of middle-earth, and that the 'RP' flag seemed to guarantee better immersion, both in names (no Gankninja, Lulzgolas, Aragoon or GimliTheLoot) and day-to-day interaction with players since i assumed the community would be a bit more mature and friendly than your average mmo population.

Overall, it went according to plan. Sure, every now and then you come across an obnoxious player but as a rule, i found people here very nice to play/chat with.

I've been actively playing on Laurelin for approx 1½ years. I actually started my career in Snowbourn server, but eventually started feeling a little bit out of place there. It just didn't feel like LOTR at all, more like just another game and there's dozens of games out there. I joined the game much for the same reasons as Trufflewise here:

Oh well I thought the community would be better on a roleplay server and though personally I do not roleplay, I do like to watch others perform.

I came over during the great migration of '11 - lol - when Turbine acquired the codie servers. I came from a US server, and abandoned several end-game characters to start over new here.

Why?

1. First and foremost - the Naming Policy (every time I go back to Vilya for whatever reason, I cringe at seeing the names in the unite channel). Its worth its weight in mithil to not see names like pwnking, Bieber, toohawtferu, etc. etc.;
2. RP - I'm not as hardcore as some of my kin-mates, but I do enjoy me some rp'in, and love that the opportunity is always there on Laurelin;
3. I like the global quality of the server, and get a kick out of hanging out with folks from all around the world.. except Australia - those guys are crazy with their yeast-spread sandwiches *glares at Harbut above, smiling*

5 years and 3 days ago i started playing lotro, and i chose... EN-RP Laurelin...

Why?

Because it was the only RP Server, and i wanted to experience RP in one of the best Settings for it...

Lord of the Rings, the Athmosphere the game brings, the acurate Lore behind it, gives an awesome RP experience...

And RP servers are mostly more Mature than the others.... ^^ but mainly because of the RP...

and i started playing Lotro, because im' a huge Tolkien fan... Books... books... board games... video games... evne the movies lol.... so yea, this MMO.... was following it since the project name MEO

My reason is the same as Oaric's. I came from a US server, felt out of place because of the very small RP players there, migrated to this server during the migration of '11 and never looked back.

P.S. I love not seeing a stupid non-RP name anymore too

I am here searching for Dweeb & Roxxor story ideas

My wife and I lament our public schools and the things that come from them so we wanted to go to an RP server where people not only knew what lore was but knew how to stay comfortably within those lines. Sure you have to bend lore a little but I have yet to see a vampire elf with a dwarf slave, for example.

Also, I put an intro thread up and this server was the first suggested (and also the most eloquently.)

Why I am here?

It's a rather long story... I used to play another MMO called 'Requiem Memento Mori' that is a horror-mmorpg set in a nightmare world.. (sounds better than it actually was) and was playing with some friends from my gaming clan here in Norway.
Then, the game went 'to the dogs' (for example by changing the classes on a weekly basis and stuff like that) and became unplayable and we where looking elsewhere to play... a couple of us had been playing Lotro earlier, so we where persuaded to join in on the fun here... they had their charachters on Laurelin, so thats the reason for the server choice. We signed up for the game, created 'Order of the Divine Brew' and that was about two years ago..

Then one stormy and rainy night some time later, I was dwelling in the Pony sipping a tankard and resting before heading out on some suicide mission to the Trollshaw area, I for the first time heard music played from a band... sure, one had heard the occasional lute tune from more or less gifted luteplayers around the place, but those tunes... I knew that I had to learn how to do that. The band was 'The Shades', so thank you Achazia and the rest of the band for your inspiration to start my 'career' as a bard :-)
I found some like-minded people in Master Trotgard, Master Chadwick and Sir Uswin (No Strings Attached/Adventurers of Arda) and persuaded Master Trotgard to teach me how to make the abc files, and after some time we figured out that we should combine our creativity and the band 'The Chosen Few' was born :-) (not sure if ya have heard of us though...)
We got our first gig at Lady Fyxe's Summerparty and we never looked back...

Now, almost two years later I'm still here and think I will be for a good deal longer. This server also has the best ingame community I've experienced and thank you all that have made the middle-earth a fun place to be :-)

I actually have been in Lotro for nearly 5 years..Of course it has been a little on and off during the years, with breaks and busy periodes. But I am very faithful to the game and I still love it..

I have often pondered myself why I am still here.. First of all I think it comes down to that I am a part of a very good Guild/Kinship. There has been few ups and downs of course, but to see people stick together and work together to get through bad periodes has only strenghten relationship to my kin. I have met some of this people in RL too, so you could say I have made some potensial good friends aswell.

The Shades is my little band, is no secret that if it wasn't for the music, I am very unsure if I would still be here.. I think it has been very determinded for me regarding the social aspect of the game. I have also created lots of music, and the game have been my arena to show my music, and I have had so much great feedback and that was so surprising for me.
Is a living community with real people that care, that was also very very new to me.. and I learned to get very fond of the people and the community on Laurelin

I started to roleplay seriously for 3 years ago after some observing. And I have never have looked back after I started with it, is therapy for me I think. To be someone else, and immerse into a world I really love.

There exist some really good people here and Kins, that are so vital for this community. There exist people that care for Laurelin as RP server, and are quite vocal about it too. But I think is necessary to care for the server as a RP server and keep the maturity around it.

After 5 years.. I probably should do something else and grow up a little maybe..*hehe*.. But no! I am in no hurry to grow old ....I think I stick here for a while longer <3

Well... actually I thought seeing the [EN-RP] sign, "this most be a busy server".
Not knowing what LOTRO was all about, since it's my first (and only) mmorpg, appart from the whole Tolkien theme, I thought it would be usefull to go to a busy server where there are a good amount of other players to play with and learn from.

After being 2 years here on Laurelin i must say i don't roleplay as frequent as most do but i really enjoy seeing you lads and lasses in bree or hobbiton going at it with your instruments and all. I always stop for a few songs and enjoy your music.

Not seeing names as "IhealzGood" or "SupaTank" is an absolute plus.

Honestly? I've been drifting from server to server since MoM. First Eldar, then Evernight etc... then finally I stumbled across Laurelin.

I'd never tried RPing before, so I got stuck in & loved it! I came for the atmosphere mostly, but to be honest I stayed for the Green Dragon Fridays

LOTRO was not my first MMO, but it is the only one I call 'HOME'! I am here because Laurelin IS my home! I did log on for the first time as soon as Laurelin was born...day 1 , on an April day, many years ago, and still remember the wonderful feeling I felt back then. The kindness of other players, chatting about Middle-earth and about the game, helping and welcoming each other, and this was only my first hour on the server. Though I am a role-player , I did not actually role play at the beginning , been very shy and also very busy with work in real life. My work did keep me away from the game for long periods over the years, but I always came back because I absolutely adore Tolkien's world and been a hobbit. Over the years I learned to use the music system which is an absolute gem in this game. I am lucky enough to be part of The Chosen Few , and I have my own musical ensemble called Hobbit Heart.

Music is magic on Laurelin!

Laurelin is a very special place, it is like a family , here I have met some amazing people that are now friends in real life too. This community is simply unique, and I would not want to be anywhere else, home is where the hobbit heart is! Though I do now role-play most of the time , I am also still enjoying the game and I do plan to be year for as long as the game keeps going. There is no other game that can give this kind of immersion, virtual Middle-earth has blended with the one described by Tolkien, to create one amazing place.

Here I truly discovered I am a hobbit in all but size. Over the years I did try to play tall people , but failed miserably ...I just cant get used to shoes Oh , don't get me wrong, life as a hobbit is not always lovely and wonderful, even hobbits can have a sad day ( specially if they run out of pies ), but I would not want it any other way. Anyway, I am here because of the wonderful people I call now real friends, their names are too many to mention them all, but they know who they are

I ve been playing mmo's since 2001, but never been into RP in any way. When i was browsing a gaming forum for info about lotro, i saw an ad for a greek kin, The Anorian Guard. I decided to join, so i picked Laurelin.

I was stunned by the rp level and the mature players i ve met during my first days in Lotro, thats when i knew this is the mmo i ll play till the end!! Gave my self this promise, no matter what happens in my life i ll never quit lotro, even if i only can log and rp! Now with free2play i know i will play forever :P

So, here we are, 5 years later. The silly student then, the married businessman now, i never feel like going away from Laurelin community, my friends and this wonderful world, the world of Tolkien!

I'm here originally because after being a long time WoW'er I was beginning to tire of some of the infantile behaviour and kit snobbery (if anyone thinks that's even remotely bad here, try WoW!). I loved the more photo realistic landscape and couldn't resist exploring which I guess is a really good sign.

Still here for a number of reasons but here are the main ones.

People :

1) My fabulous kinnies (some I know IRL, some not)
2) The many fun RP folk that I have met along the way and who have helped me pass the time in many rewarding random encounters both in towns and in the middle of absolutely nowhere !
3) The RP stalwarts who selflessly organise RP initiatives and keep things fresh with their inventiveness and enthusiasm.
4) To the many generous, helpful non-RP'ers who respect this server and its rules and have shown generosity and patience as I learned the mechanics of the game.

Game stuff :

1) The sheer epic scale of the place makes it a real slog to get from one place to another but I really kinda like that if I'm honest. The shire really does feel a world away from the troubles in the south
2) Historical flashbacks.. just love them. Drums in the deep...*quiver*
3) The epic quest chain generally (well most of it!)

Because I don't roleplay, but I enjoy the more strict rules and the atmosphere on the server. And my kin is home to some trully awesome people

Your words here hit something in me... I am at Laurelin, because a friend played here... and I havent regret it one second... The community here is very special to me - and like you describe - no matter what happen rl, there is always a world here... Middleearth... to come home to. I went through a divorce, while I have been here, a few kinnies had children - and to be part of this development in life... and keep stories going in the kinship, rp-wise... it continue amaze me, all that we share. And I also feel, that being here, with so many different people, that share the love for Tolkien, have made me see the world much more open minded, that I would ever think I could. I love Middleearth and all the people here too - and will never leave... Middleearth became a part of my life, and I like to feel, that I became a part of Middleearth.

And it makes me proud to think of myself as a Laurelinian - or what we call ourselves...

This,... To be honest I first started on some French server until a little hobbit called Pingo in Archet told me its a French server,... Then started anew here. After 4 years I know more of MMOs and honestly happy I chose this server even if it was by accident. The names,... A kingdom, a kingdom for a naming policy and GMs to enforce it!

I'm an Italian Role Player, i'm playing D&D, AD&D and others RP from 1989, so when i found LOTRO, i have realized my big dream, play in the Tolkien world!! And Laurelin are the RP server, so i'm here!!!
I found many people make a good RP, i try to make a good RP, not everytime because, not all of my friends want to RP, but when i'm in my lonely trip i love to go on Prancing Pony, or in the Shire and make a good RP, sound some music and tell stories.
This time i have to finish my first poem, and when ready i make my trip along the middle eart and tell it.

Thank Laurelin community to make this server alive!!!!!

Posted this a while back, only stumbled across it by chance and was actually really nice reading all the responses

I wasn't originally in Laurelin, I moved over from another server with several alts.

I got tired of the constant grinding and rushing from a run to another. I already had the background stories for all of my alts written in my bios for roleplaying, but nobody seemed to really care. I hated to hear comments like "wall of text". So I made one alt in Laurelin and tried levelling her to over 30. Once in a while I stopped by in Prancing Pony, and I just loved how people indulge in character so easily. I'm somewhat Tolkien lore savvy in real life, and it was exactly what I was looking for.

Indeed, the RP label brought me in Laurelin and I hope it stays that way.

Sure I will miss some people in my previous server, but in the end I think the migration was worth it. So far I haven't been disappointed.
