Question Special Items Worth It? (tea, coffee, etc)

Note: I love farming/cooking so time/money is not an issue for this subject.

But I do wonder if what I'm doing is actually worth the effort (let alone all the vault space used). I've been keeping up with making the repasts and coffee, and storing them until my hunter is old enough to use them (which may be another year at this rate!).

I've not made any teas yet as they use the repasts and I don't know if I should/need to be using the repasts for that (although I don't know what ELSE I would use the repasts for!). I have never used them for making regular "Guild" foods as that REALLY seems like a waste.

I have also only made the Crafted Relics recipes that don't require the very expensive book, I have no real understanding of THEIR use either!

I know that many things are a matter of opinion (spending all day farming crit items is no big deal to me), but generally speaking, what should I be doing with this stuff, or are they pretty much a waste now that I am finished with the Cooking Guild (which also seems like sort of a waste, but I do like to accomplish everything I can)?

Eh? The Compendiums of Middle Earth? They're all obtainable in solo repeatable quests (I - Flaming Deeps; II - Ost Galadh; III - Galtrev).

Ahhh, okay that explains that. My hunter isn't old enough for those areas yet. Thanks for the info.

In my experience this will depend on how much you play. I have a lot of tea leaves and am still working through that inventory (no new farming). In general, if you are a casual player for a few hours a day, it's hard to both farm the leaves and use the tea within the cooldowns of the tea itself.

I've gotten to where I only produce the tea twice a week (thus 1x 15%, 2x 10%, 2x 5% per week), and even that I produce more than I consume. Others in my kin have written off the tea as not a valuable use of time. Again, YMMV.

I don't use the coffee, so I'm a bad person to ask about that

Actually, IMHO, that's one of the better uses for the repasts, from an economic perspective. It saves the "crit bits" you get from farming to be used on Trail Food. Though as you note, you don't mind the time, so that's apparently something that doesn't matter in this case.

Other than the tea & the guild recipes, the repasts are no longer something you need to make once you are Master of the Guild...

You will thank yourself once you're level 65+ (technically 51+, but you'll really feel the pain later on) for making those and storing them up. They are a good source of the relic shards used to create some of the special items at a relic master.

As far as the books, I'd save those for times when you personally need to equip them, rather than making those relics in order to break them. Of course, that also depends on your tolerance for repeating those quests. Having done Trace Metals (for the Vol I) at least 100 times, I'm kind of bored of it... so that is part of the controlling part of my opinion.

Thanks, Pottery. You gave me some things to think about (and reminded me to use my crit items on trail foods!).

It may not hurt to store some of the larger repasts now because I am willing to bet there will be another new guild level when RoR launches.

Ya, I went ahead and had my cook keep making them. Figured I might as well.

I have been using the tea regularly so I am sure I'll use the coffee when I'm old enough. Every little bit helps!

Re: Special Items Worth It? (tea, coffee, etc)

Once you hit max standing with the cook's guild (I assume you have since you are making guild coffee), repasts have only one purpose: Making guild food/ingredients and item xp drinks.
I personally think they item xp drinks are completely pointless, as I've never had much trouble getting my legendary items leveled. If you're the kind of person who prefer leveling your legendaries by grinding skirmishes or just world mobs, they make some sense I guess. But in general, doing quests will give you so much more xp, both item and regular, that the drinks seem like a tiny, tiny bonus for what is already a somewhat inefficient way to level your weapons (grinding mobs/skirmishes). Still, I make the drinks for friends and they seem to appreciate them...

My suggestion is burn the tier 7 repasts (once you have max guild standing) on making stacks of Apple & Cheese pies, then sell them on the AH. I don't know your exact level, but if you're too low to even go to Moria, you're going to have loads of repasts later on anyway if you craft them as often as you can. Repasts of lower than tier 7... I don't see much purpose in them, other than to keep you characters at those tiers supplyed with food - which isn't unimportant!

Alternatively, there may be some sense in hoarding some high tier repasts for when we eventually get tier 8 crafting. We're probably going to have to spend a lot of them to get max guild standing again.

You're high enough for the flaming deeps, I can do that area on my Burglar right now if I choose to, however I'm doing the epic to level up because I'm under-leveled.

Also, I have no idea if you were level 57 on your hunter at the time of posting that.

I actually think that the newest book for the crafted relics (History of Middle-Earth Vol III) is one of the easiest to get as it's in an instanced area, and on level it's a quick kill and clear for the IXP and the book. I've been stocking up now that I've got two characters at level and plan on starting to make the highest tier crafted relics on my lower level toons that I'll be leveling up. As the bartered relics are BOA I see no reason to make them on characters I either won't be leveling at all or will wait for a long while. However, on the few characters that I'm planning on leveling soon, I will most definitely be making these as any extras can be easily refined into a large amount of shards for such a little cost. And since shards are now shared across account for the server, I can quickly build my supply of shards amongst all my crafters.

CoME III is the easiest to get without a doubt. CoME I and II are such a pain because you have to ride out into the middle of nowhere and kill a bunch of stuff. The only good thing about those quests (pre-ROI at least) is that you sometimes run into some easy flake droppers to kill.

Thanks for the tips! I was only about 40 when I orig wrote that post.

UPDATE: I'm 65 now and I am very happy that I spent the time making/storing/drinking tea (and soon to be coffee). It's well worth all the effort, IMHO.
