Many thanks to Miss Gwen, Wulu, and the many others who joined the Bounders of the Shire on our expedition to purge the Marish of the ravenous Slug Queen last night! For those who had to depart early, I want you to know that the expedition was a success!
We scoured the Marish in vain and for what seemed like ages, occasionally spotting lesser slugs, but no sign of their slimy mistress. Eventually announcing that we were content with the knowledge that if nothing else, we had scared the villainous Ruiner of Lettuces away from Farmer Maggot's gardens, we prepared to leave the Marish for the time being. We all began to head back to our respective smials for naps and dinner, not necessarily in that order, but not necessarily not in that order either.
Our clever ruse of giving up and going home empty-handed worked perfectly, flushing the beast from hiding!
Miss Blackcherry's traps slowed the leviathan's assault long enough for Mister Wrennsong to compose several sketches of the near-mythical creature, which I, personally, hope we can have bound and donated to the Mathom House or even the library in the Great Smial. I myself landed the killing blow, barely drawing the Glutton of Muck's ire away from poor Miss Blackcherry, who looked about to meet a very slimy end indeed. Although it seemed to be over in an instant, Miss Gennyrose et al were of course invaluable in battle!
Mister Wrennsong gathered samples from the carcass for study, and cheers were given all around.
Also, before the battle became too heated, I was able to capture a quick sketch myself, proving the existence of the hideous monster beyond all doubt:
All in all, a successful mission!
