    Duo Partner with Hunter

    Greetings Hunters,

My wife and I have been playing our Champ / Capt Duo to level 35 and our VIP is about to run out, so we will be starting a new duo shortly. My wife has decided on a Hobbit Hunter, and I am debating between LM and RK for her partner.

I know for most outdoor quests we will be fine nuking anything down before it reaches us, my question is how these two work on close quarter fights like in the barrows fighting an elite or groups. Would we be better off with the LM for CC, or RK to heal the Hunter through the fight?

My concern with the RK is that my wife probably won't be able to keep aggro off my RK if things get tough. Any advice or opinions you can give would be very helpful.

    Re: Duo Partner with Hunter

Before I start, I want to say I've levelled both an RK and LM to level cap (1 75 and 1 65).

In my experience, most likely you would like the Loremaster as a duo with a hunter. A loremaster will be able to CC and AOE stun mobs around the hunter, do massive AOE damage (not a hunter's strong point) and the bear pet will be able to tank any serious mobs. Additionally, loremasters can do a fair amount of healing, debuff, (not as much as an RK, but they can do damage at the same time), and can give power out to the hunter.

Additionally, and this is pretty important, LMs tend to be less squishy than RKs. RKs are designed to be a nuker class - to kill everything before it gets to you - but LMs with their pets and CC tend to be significantly more durable in nasty fights. Hunters tend to be a little squishy in melee combat, so the versatility, survivability, and utility of the LM is probably your safest bet. Plus LMs are incredibly fun to play!

    Re: Duo Partner with Hunter

Having raised 4 LMs to cap (60, 65, 2 x 75) I'm kind of biased, but an LM is excellent soloing and with a hunter providing more CC and not inconsiderable damage they'd make an excellent pair.

My sole RK, 65 and not likely to progress, was fun but personally I didn't like the playstyle with its tediously long inductions, it just wasn't 'me', but the ability to switch from great damage to pretty good healing is something that would be a great compliment to the hunter.

I agree completely with the other replies. A LM would be a great compliment to a hunter. The revised LM really brings a lot to any group (regardless of size). Additionally, with a LMs disease and wound removal and the hunters poison removal, you have pretty good coverage for anything most of the baddies through at you. And between, roots, stuns and traps, you should be able to keep said baddies at a safe distance.

I don't know how important crafting is to you (or what your other characters' vocations are), but a Historian plus either an Explorer or Woodsman (my preference) will provide you with a lot of extra stuff (oils, tomes, morale and power pots, staves, spears, bows and whatnot).

I have duo'd skirmishes with an RK on my hunter and they are a great combo. I provide the CC and he provides the heals and we both can DPS. We blew through t2 duo's and had a good challenge but doable trying a t3.

Well, not being a hunter, but being an RK I duo regularly with a hunter and it is a good combo. I can DPS and heal the hunter, while the hunter tanks and does DPS. If things go bad, I switch completely to healing, until everything is under control and I switch back to DPS again. Works like a charm.

Although there is not much CC, there is some. I have not encountered anything where we weren't able to get through. RK's also have some (very limited) stuns, but in combination with the hunter's CC you'll be fine.

In general, I think both combo's will work like a charm, it depends mostly on your liking the different playstyles.

Thanks for the help guys. I was leaning towards LM anyways and you have convinced me. I think the RK would work well too, but would be more of a head ache. I love the lightning of the RK but my wife is very new to computer games and is a clicker, so trapping and kiting will be an issue for her, sounds like it's best to just have me do it with the LM.

    Again, thanks for the help.

I think you made the right choice with LM. They are a great compliment to hunter especially if the hunter uses fire-oil.

I'd say captain worked very well too.

yup LM is cool with a hunter. Best combo for a rk, I would say a warden or burg.
