Make pop up windows less annoying

In the middle of fighting and someone asked me to join a fellowship, a pop up appeared and blocked the center of the screen, sweet.

Typing search keywords in auction house but right before I press enter, someone asked me to join his kin. The pop up appeared only a fraction of a second because I pressed enter and immediately joined his kin. And I didn't know that I have joined until some kin chat appeared.

Someone spammed me with barter request pop ups. Whenever I press NO, he would just rerequest and the pop up reappeared.

Also, usually the questions asked by pop up windows are not that important / urgent. They don't have to be answered immediately at the time it is asked.

Can pop up windows be made smaller and put on the corner of the screen and not grab focus when they appear?

You can disable those requests in your Social Options.

Do you mean turning off fellowing, barter, etc. completely?

I DO want to be invited to fellowship, I DO want to barter, but I prefer not to have to respond right at the time of asking because I may be in the middle of a fight or something else.

The big issue is the pop ups grabbing focus. It is something that we have asked to be changed since before launch in 2007. Apparently it is not something that is cost affordable to fix. After five years, I thinking they are not going to do anything about the focus.

That leaves us with smaller windows. Or retry timers. The only one with retry timer is trade which is one request every 30 seconds or a minute. The trade retry timer drives me nuts. Often it will time out when I am trying to give something to fellow member. Everybody has to wait for the timer to expire. Or I have to explain that I not allowed to retry. Plus start the trade yourself. That is sometimes followed by - How to start a trade?

Another solution, is to put the person on ignore. Right click on their name, select ignore from the drop down. No more popups. When I get an unwanted fellowship request. I leave the pop up alone. Set the character to ignore. Let the pop up expire or reject it.

Turbine hasn't done any updates like size of the pop ups. You might want to check the UI Skinning packs. There might be a pack or an Lua add on that modifies this functionality.

I turned off the ones I don't like (especially spar), and kin is fine since I'm already in one, but I keep fellowship on because I do use it quite a bit. However, when it's in the middle of a fight it tends to either mess up the fight or have me run out of time to join, and worse are the people who refuse to stop asking me when I've already declined.

It's more annoying than forced emotes ever could be.

Unfortunately, a lot of people start playing online games with the concept that there are hundreds players online waiting patiently for their arrival. All willing to come immediately to their aid and do whatever they want. Somehow the idea that everybody is just like them - has personal goals that may need other players to help them never registered.

There are ways to handle most of these like forming a self or anti-social kinship, but I want to address the fellowship requests in combat. It can be a good thing I've been on the sending and receiving end of these in two cases:

To help when a solo combat is going badly - A solo combat is going poorly and the other person wants to help out without robbing XP from the original combatant. It's important to understand how the fellowship Assist XP Penalty works.

To share deed or quest mobs - That person may be on the same quest or working the same deed and wants to share rather than compete for those limited resources.

These are cases where I make an exception to the rule of you having to talk to me before I'll accept a fellowship request. Sometimes people don't even say hello in fellowship chat or say what they're working on which seems a little rude, but help honestly offered or the willingness to share rather than compete in a non-zero-sum game should be appreciated.

All that said, I think those requests do need to behave differently when in combat. Stealing focus and blocking the center of the screen in combat, even with the best of intentions, can disturb if not annoy the recipient.

Try two, and they're not in the same zone you're in, they're in the one at a higher level.

I can help, but when I'm out to help, I'm specifically out to help people, not also questing.
