Aye- trying to persuade landlady to go halves on cable. Then the sink and the microwave broke.....
I am drooling over the clips online though. And I've read the books so I don't expect to miss out as bad as might have.
Hope I don't have to wait a few years for winds of winter.
Place was overrun with rats when we moved in. The spearwives killed the nasty buggers. Now the place is overrun with spearwives. There’s days I want the rats back~Dolorous Edd
Khalis - Elven Warder & Captain in the Warband of Imladris
An Elven Kin based in Rivendell, composed of Elves and Men in honour of the old alliance formed by Lord Elrond.
Not enough Arya. (I hope that's not a spoiler) On the other hand yay for dothraki, I was even able to understand a few words The rest was superb.
Re-ni-AN-nen - strayed (ppt. of renia- 'to stray')
Aeled Reniannen, Defender of Middle-earth ~ Nendhiniel, Forge-Warden : Captain and Wardenette from [EN-RP] Laurelin
Fluffrash, Blade of Barashish ~ Nathraen, Conqueror of Towers : Warg Puppy and Spider Tailor from the darker side thereof
Faradwen, Swift-Arrow : Huntress from [EN-RE] Landroval
As if in answer there came from far away another note. Horns, horns, horns. In dark Mindolluin's sides they dimly echoed. Great horns of the North wildly blowing. Rohan had come at last.

Its not- many of the critics said the same thing. I haven't had a chance to watch the season yet- don't get HBO but am looking forward to it eventually.
I do expect HBO to deviate more from the book in the second season than the first. Mostly there is way too much in the book. I hope I am mostly wrong about that.
If you like the series and haven't read the books- read em.

The episode seemed more of an re-introduction to the main characters and is trying to set the stage for what is coming next, I guess that is expected of a first episode. I'm looking forward to more.
I rate S2 E1 an 8 out 10. There wasn't any violence and it seemed incongruous at times. Still though I enjoyed it.
Wasn't any violence?? Ripping a baby from its mother's arms and killing it isn't violent?! I could hardly stomach it, as a mother. I know it's just a tv show, but that kind of stuff really gets under my skin, now that I'm a mommy.

That was just a general statement, Arya has like 5 seconds screen time in the first episode. (I have not read the second book yet)

I recommend you read it before watching all of the second season. I will pound that point into the dirt LOL.

I really want to read the books and I will at some point I'm sure but I am torn. I want to read but I also want to see the story unfold in the series. It's a tough call.

My family read the books long before HBO started the series.

He's over here in England at the moment, there was an event tonight in Bath that I went to (plus he's going to be at Eastercon over the weekend). He was answering prepared questions to start off with (about his influences, how he writes, that sort of thing), then there was a general Q&A session and he did a reading of part of a chapter of The Winds of Winter. He was signing books as well, but I didn't stick around for that as the queue was way long. He did say that it'll be 'years' before the next book's published (no surprise there, then). He's apparently going to do another reading at that con, more of that same chapter (which features Victarion) and from another chapter which features Tyrion.
Turns out GRRM is a pretty funny guy. For example, someone asked him if we were going to be seeing him in a cameo in the TV series and he said that he reckoned it'd be great fun to be one of the casualties at the Red Wedding, or else to 'appear' as a severed head on a spike
He did say that he'd already done a cameo, but it hit the cutting-room floor when they recast the part of Daenerys and so had to reshoot some of the footage. As it was, he'd have appeared as one of the guests at her wedding, as a Pentosi in an outrageous hat.

We never saw them actually murdering the baby. Your imagination is winning control of your mental battlefield.
I'm talking about combat... open warfare between factions... the series has not been good whatsoever in showing such grandscale combat. It's probably a budgetary issue for them.

It was, indeed, an openly acknowledged issue with season one (budget restrictions combat off screen). By all accounts, we are supposed to expect things to be different with the climax of season two.
OTOH, there really aren't that many large set piece battles in the story - given the overall length of the material.
