Purpose of "Official" discussion threads?
Forgive my ignorance but why are these type of threads labeled "official" when Devs rarely if ever actually discuss in them ?
All of the Official Dev Diaries on Audacity, Commendations, Wargs etc were void of any Dev response.
Doesnt a discussion need the Devs input ? Or just a one-way discussion among the players?

Re: Purpose of "Official" discussion threads?
1) so that things are "explained" to use so that we "understand" what we "think" we don't like
2) so that discussion stays here where they can nuke things they don't like, as opposed to going to other communities

Re: Purpose of "Official" discussion threads?
It's so they gather as much useful feedback on a subject as they can in one place, instead of having it spread to all four corners of the forums.
Also, as it happens, ZC responded in the Audacity thread here: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?446233-Update-6-Developer-Diary-Feedback-PvMP-Audacity&p=6007288#post6007288
And again here: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?446233-Update-6-Developer-Diary-Feedback-PvMP-Audacity&p=6008438#post6008438
Honestly, if you're going to make a 'Turbine doesn't listen to us!' thread, at least be accurate.
Yes, yes, Turbine is a tyrannical police state that delete all posts they don't like.
Oh wait, that's a load of tripe.Morlenil Barkolomew Turmuz Shurz Gruubluk

./signed
I'm wondering the same thing.
And if its true that we have had 2 replies over 4 'official' threads with 100's of community comments. Well thats pretty pitiful.
At this late stage I'd settle for a straight 'we are working on it' acknowledgement post in the commendations/audacity threads.
Progress demands development of individuality; mediocrity seeks perpetuation in standardization.

Re: Purpose of "Official" discussion threads?
I believe were are dealing with a difference in expectations.
Players: We want to have a discussion between the Players and Developers. We want the developers to respond publically to our comments.
Developers: We want the players to discuss the feature amongst themselves. We will listen quietly. Have our own private meeting to consider the feedback. We may inject comments occasionally so that we can direct the discussion to areas that we are interested in hearing feedback. Or get the players on the right track.
IMHO - "Official" Discussion threads are fact finding or information gathering missions. Similar to how some government agencies ask for public comments.

Re: Purpose of "Official" discussion threads?
I think one of the worst examples of this was the forum hack thread. It was just left there so that customers would just put their questions there, out of the way of the general forum and not get any answers that should have been given.

Re: Purpose of "Official" discussion threads?
No. It is interesting how certain behaviors are common for humanity at the individual, group, organization, company and government. Request for Comments is a very common mechanism when there are few people on the receiving side versus a lot responders.
Naturally our government which is a representative body uses this mechanism. It is not viable to have my state representative run around and talk to people. Companies are often the same way. They have a company wide meeting. So 20, 40 100 thousand people listen to the CEO. Four lucky people get to ask questions and maybe get a "real" response. The really suck companies you never get to hear the CEO speak. You never get to put any comments into the system.
Most of the companies I've worked for have the:
1) Town Hall
2) A few token questions
3) A feedback system where you rarely ever get any response. Is anybody listening? Or is it an opening to a shredder and trash can.Last edited by Yula_the_Mighty; Apr 09 2012 at 11:15 PM.
